Abstract

This literature review research analyzes the relevance crisis of balāghah in Arabic language learning through an instructional objectives analysis approach. The research method used is a systematic literature review of 50 articles from SINTA and Scopus indexed journals published between 2015-2024. The findings reveal three main aspects of the crisis: first, a significant gap between the classical objectives of balāghah (production of eloquent speech) and modern instructional objectives that emphasize communicative competence and functional language skills; second, the marginalization of balāghah in contemporary Arabic language curricula, with allocation of less than 10% of total instructional time in most institutions; third, pedagogical problems including conventional teaching methods, abstract materials, and assessment focused on theoretical mastery rather than practical application. Factors contributing to this crisis include the dominance of structural linguistics paradigms, limited teacher competence in applied balāghah, and the pressure of market-oriented educational demands. The study concludes that balāghah reconstruction is needed by reorienting its instructional objectives toward pragmatic and functional dimensions, integrating it with modern language skills, and developing contextual teaching materials based on contemporary discourse analysis. This research recommends the development of a new balāghah curriculum framework that bridges classical tradition with modern communicative needs, along with comprehensive teacher training programs.

Abstract

The phenomenon of weakening faith and declining Islamic character among the younger generation of Muslims in the era of globalization and digitalization indicates that the process of internalizing faith values ​​in education has not been optimal. This condition demands a renewal in faith learning that is not solely oriented towards knowledge but also emphasizes role models as a means of developing students' spirituality and morals. This study aims to explain the values ​​of faith education and Islamic character development through the application of the exemplary method within the concept of Al-Walā’ wa Al-Barā’ as explained in the book Tarbiyatul Aṭfāl by Sheikh Ra’fat Farīz Shalabī. The model used is the exemplary method (uswah hasanah), as this method is considered the most effective in instilling faith values ​​through concrete examples in the behavior, speech, and attitudes of educators that align with Islamic teachings. In the context of Al-Walā’ wa Al-Barā’, this method encompasses two important aspects: fostering loyalty to Allah, the Prophet, and the Muslims (Al-Walā’), and instilling an attitude of avoiding values ​​that conflict with Islam (Al-Barā’). This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review, analyzing classical and contemporary Islamic educational texts and literature. The results show that the exemplary method based on the concept of Al-Walā’ wa Al-Barā’ can strengthen understanding of the creed, foster commitment to faith, and shape a resilient Islamic character amidst the moral challenges of the modern era. Abstract

This study examines the use of ChatGPT as a translation-support tool for Arabic texts among seventh-semester students of the Arabic Language Education Program at UIN Raden Intan Lampung. The research is motivated by the increasing integration of artificial intelligence in language learning and the growing tendency of students to rely on AI-based translation tools when dealing with academic Arabic texts. This study aims to (1) describe how ChatGPT is utilized in the translation process, (2) analyze the semantic quality of ChatGPT’s translation output by comparing it with the original meaning of selected mahfudzat texts “ الشَّرَفُ بِالْأَدَبِ”, and identify the benefits and challenges of its use. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and documentation, and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings reveal that ChatGPT is used intensively to translate course materials, articles, qirā’ah texts, and examination items, as well as to understand vocabulary and sentence structure. The comparison of translation results indicates that ChatGPT generally produces accurate and readable outputs, although some segments include interpretative additions and structural inconsistencies that require manual verification. This study concludes that ChatGPT is effective as an initial comprehension tool in translation learning, yet it cannot replace the linguistic competence of human translators, particularly in academic and religious texts that demand contextual precision. These findings highlight the importance of AI literacy and critical verification skills in ensuring responsible and appropriate use of ChatGPT in translation practice.

Abstract

The social phenomenon within contemporary Muslim communities indicates that many families still neglect children’s fundamental rights, including education, financial support, and emotional care. This condition reflects a gap between the ideal values of Islamic teachings and their practical implementation in family life. This study aims to critically examine the interrelation between zakat fitrah (alms of purification), lineage (nasab), and the fulfillment of children’s rights from the perspective of Islamic Religious Education. Employing a qualitative approach with a library research design, this study applies content analysis to primary sources such as the Qur’an, Hadith, classical works of tafsir and fiqh, as well as secondary data from academic books, journals, and previous studies. The findings reveal that zakat fitrah possesses profound spiritual and social dimensions. It functions not only as an act of ritual purification but also as an instrument of social education that cultivates justice, empathy, and collective responsibility. Meanwhile, the concept of nasab serves as a moral and educational foundation within the family, emphasizing parental responsibility to fulfill children’s rights to love, protection, and moral guidance. The lack of understanding of these two concepts has weakened the family’s role as a moral and spiritual educational institution. Therefore, integrating the values of zakat fitrah and nasab into Islamic Religious Education is essential for developing a family-based educational paradigm grounded in raḥmah (compassion), ‘adl (justice), and amānah (responsibility).
