Abstract

Laporan kasus ini bertujuan untuk melaporkan penanganan kasus hernia umbilicalis pada anak babi landrace dengan menggunakan anestesi kombinasi xylazine dan ketamine. Seekor anak babi ras landrace betina berumur 1,5 bulan dengan bobot badan 9 kg menderita hernia umbilicalis berdiameter 7 cm. Telah dilakukan operasi perbaikan hernia dengan metode memotong kantong hernia, mengembalikan isi hernia, debridement dan menutup cincin hernia. Anestesi yang digunakan adalah kombinasi xylazine (0,5–3 mg/kg) dan ketamine (10–20 mg/kg) diinjeksikan secara intramuskular. Selama operasi berlangsung dilakukan pemeriksaan fisik yaitu denyut jantung, pulsus, respirasi, capillary refill time (CRT) dan suhu rektal. Hasil pemeriksaan fisik menunjukkan pada menit ke-50 merupakan titik terendah turunnya denyut jantung (52 ×/menit), respirasi (40 ×/menit) dan suhu rectal (37,6oC). Hasil penghitungan pulsus selama operasi terpantau sangat berfluktuasi tiap 10 menitnya, pulsus terendah (48 ×/menit) terhitung pada menit ke-30. CRT terhitung dari awal hingga akhir operasi adalah 1–2 detik. Pasca operasi, hewan diberikan terapi amoxicillin (15-20 mg/kg IM/SC q48h) dan Novaldon® (methampyrone 250 mg, pyromidone 50 mg dan lidocaine 15 mg). Hasil operasi menunjukkan hewan mengalami kesembuhan pada hari ke sembilan.

Abstract

Asites merupakan penumpukan cairan yang berlebihan pada cavum abdomen. Seekor anjing ras beagle bernama Buddy, umur 1 tahun 8 bulan, jenis kelamin jantan, bobot 13,2 kg dibawa ke Rumah Sakit Hewan Pendidikan, Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan, Universitas Udayana pada tanggal 9 Oktober 2020 dengan keluhan abdomen membesar sejak dua hari sebelumnya, lesu, nafsu makan menurun. Hasil pemeriksaan fisik menunjukkan anjing kasus terlihat lesu, saat berjalan terlihat terengah-engah, abdomen membesar, mukosa mulut pucat, capillary refill time (CRT) lebih dari 2 detik. Pemeriksaan penunjang yang digunakan adalah pemeriksaan radiografi yang menunjukkan adanya penumpukan cairan pada rongga abdomen dan di luar peritoneum, jantung berbentuk bulat dan terlihat radiopaq, apex jantung tidak terlihat dan pemeriksaan Complete Blood Count (CBC) menunjukkan anjing kasus mengalami anemia mikrositik, hiperkromik, limfositosis, dan penurunan jumlah granulosit. Anjing didiagnosis mengalami asites yang dicurigai berkaitan dengan gangguan pada jantung. Pengobatan yang diberikan pada anjing kasus yaitu antibiotik yang mengandung amoxicilin dan clavunamate potassium (dosis 13,75 mg/kgBB) dua kali sehari selama tujuh hari, furosemide (dosis 0,5 mg/kgBB) dua kali sehari selama tujuh hari, dan digoxin (0,011 mg/kgBB) satu kali sehari selama delapan hari. Setelah 11 hari perawatan anjing kasus sudah sangat membaik, tidak menunjukkan gejala sebelumnya seperti abdomen yang membesar, lesu dan nafsu makan yang menurun. Pemeriksaan lanjutan berupa pemeriksaan fungsi hati dan EKG, disarankan untuk mengetahui penyebab asites anjing kasus secara pasti.

Abstract

Subclinical infection of avian influenza (AI) in day old chick (DOC) has potential to interfere the success of vaccination programs. Therefore, an alternative ways to increase avian innate immunity in preventing the infection is necessary. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding water additive (KimchiStock®) in preventing the occurrence of AI natural infection in DOC raising in commercial broiler farms. Fifty-five broiler DOCs, Cobb strains were used as experimental animals. Before the experiment begin, five DOCs were randomly selected, sacrificed and the lung were taken out for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis on the matrix region. Fifty remaining DOCs were randomly divided into two: K1 (control) and K2 (treated) groups. K2 group were given 0.2% water additive (KimchiStock®) 5 days/ week for five weeks. Every week for five consecutive weeks, five chicken from each group were randomly selected for sera and lung collection. Sera samples were analyzed for antibody titer detection using haemagglutination inhibition technique. The results showed that there is no significant different in antibody titer between control and treated group. The majority of the antibody titer in this experiment were under 23. At week 4 the antibody titer of one chicken in treated group was 23 but no clinical sign was observed. Molecularly, there were no positive result detected from the lung of five DOCs at the beginning of the experiment and control group. While in the K2, positive result were detected on week 1 and 2 but without any clinical sign. Based on the research results could be concluded that adding 0.2% water additive KimchiStock® could prevent AI natural infection starting from week 3.

Abstract

Salah satu hambatan dalam peternakan sapi adalah adanya berbagai penyakit yang menyerang berbagai sistem organ. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk merepresentasikan kejadian penyakit pada berbagai sistem pada sapi di Kabupaten Muna Barat. Data penyakit berasal dari 566 rekam medis sapi yang telah ditangani di Pusat Kesehatan Hewan (Puskeswan) kusambi dari tahun 2021 sampai 2022. Data tersebut dikelompokkan berdasarkan gangguan berbagai sistem organ dan dilakukan analisis secara deskriptif. Berdasarkan analisis, kejadian gangguan sistem organ terdapat 5 kategori penyakit yaitu gangguan pencernaan (27,74 %), gangguan integumen (25,27 %), gangguan reproduksi (18,37 %), gangguan mata (5,48 %), dan gangguan pada sistem organ lainnya (3,53 %). Gangguan sistem pencernaan pada sapi merupakan gangguan yang paling banyak terjadi. Kejadian penyakit yang paling sering ditemui adalah helminthiasis, scabiosis, dan corpus luteum persistent (CLP).

Abstract

Pathogenic bacteria from the Anaplasmataceae family cause ehrlichiosis and anaplasmosis in animals, including dogs and wild carnivores (wolves, foxes, raccoons, and others). These diseases are emerging vector-borne diseases transmitted through ticks. A six-month-old timber wolf crossbreed (Canis lupus) came to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University, Bali, Indonesia, with a history of weakness, decreased appetite, and excessive salivation. Examination revealed that the timber wolf crossbreed had pale mucosa, lethargy, hypersalivation, normochromic microcytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, gas accumulation in the stomach and intestine, and no foreign bodies in the digestive tract. Rapid test results with the SNAP® 4Dx® Plus Test IDEXX® were positive for Ehrlichia sp. and Anaplasma sp.; however, the blood smear examination was negative. The therapy for this case included sodium chloride 0,9% infusion as fluid therapy, atropine sulfate as symptomatic therapy, hematopoietic, multivitamin, iron supplementation as supportive therapy, and doxycycline antibiotic as causative therapy. The wolf showed decreased salivary excretion and ate 4 h after fluid therapy, atropine sulfate, and hematopoietic administration. The wolf improved their condition through increased appetite and became agile after seven days of treatment. The wolf was declared clinically cured after two weeks of doxycycline treatment.

Abstract

Satu dari enam ekor anak babi Landrace lahir dengan kondisi lahir tanpa kulit pada bagian pantat. Pemeriksaan fisik menunjukkan anak babi memiliki bobot lahir 1,32 kg, suhu 39,1oC, absennya kulit pada bagian belakang paha kanan (4,2 x 7,1 cm) dan kiri (5,1 ×5,3 cm) serta pangkal ekor, sehingga teramati luka terbuka. Berdasarkan signalement, sejarah kasus dan pemeriksaan fisik, anak babi didiagnosis mengalami epitheliogenesis imperfecta (EI). Terapi yang diberikan yaitu antibiotik procaine dan benzathine penicillin G dosis 1 ml/10 kg bobot badan (BB) sekali injeksi. Diphenhidramine HCl dosis 1 mg/kg BB diberikan sekali injeksi. Pembersihan luka dilakukan sehari sekali dengan larutan infus NaCl 0,9% dan diberikan antiseptik povidone iodin 10% selama 14 hari. Luka dibiarkan terbuka tanpa dibalut. Pada hari ke-3 setelah lahir, anak babi diberikan suplemen Ferdex® Plus dosis 2ml/piglet sekali pemberian. Anak babi selama perawatan dibiarkan bersama induknya. Hasil treatment menunjukkan kesembuhan dimulai dari terbentuknya keropeng pada hari ke 3 dan perlahan – lahan terkelupas dengan sendirinya hingga hari ke 8 (tersisa ± 10% bagian keropeng). Kulit sepenuhnya telah tumbuh dan luka sepenunya telah sembuh pada hari ke 15 pasca anak babi lahir.

Abstract

Penyakit Ginjal Polikistik (PKD) adalah kelainan genetik yang disebabkan oleh mutasi pada PKD1, yang sebagian besar ditemukan pada kucing Persia. Studi kasus ini melaporkan kejadian PKD pada kucing persilangan Himalaya-Persia yang diobati dengan terapi cairan, suplementasi ginjal, manajemen nutrisi, dan beras merah. Seekor kucing ras Himalaya-Persia betina berusia 5 tahun yang telah disterilkan dibawa ke Klinik Hewan Kassiti Vetcare, Bandung, dengan keluhan nafsu makan menurun selama seminggu, tidak mau makan selama empat hari, sakit perut, dan urin berwarna oranye. Anemia makrositer hiperkromik ditemukan pada tes darah lengkap. Pemeriksaan kimia darah menunjukkan peningkatan kadar kreatinin (363,1 µmol/L), yang menunjukkan gangguan fungsi ginjal. Pemeriksaan ultrasonografi menunjukkan bahwa ginjal membesar, batas antara korteks dan medula tidak jelas, dan kista hipo-anekoik dengan berbagai ukuran diamati di area korteks-medula ginjal. Pasien didiagnosis dengan PKD dan memiliki prognosis yang buruk. Perawatan yang dilakukan meliputi terapi cairan Ringer laktat intravena (IV), suplemen ginjal RenaCor®, beras merah Flozindo® (RMR), dan NatureBridge® untuk ginjal kucing. Kondisi pasien membaik setelah perawatan, seperti yang ditunjukkan oleh kondisinya yang aktif dan warna urin yang normal.

Abstract

Co-infections involving tick-borne diseases (TBD) alongside gastrointestinal protozoans are poorly understood in domestic dogs. This case report examines the occurrence of Babesia sp., Ehrlichia sp., and Anaplasma sp. co-infections with Giardia sp. and Amoeba sp. in a three-month-old female poodle. The owner complained that her dog had yellow vomiting and bloody diarrhea, and refused to eat. A physical examination was performed, revealing lethargy, 4% dehydration, bloody diarrhea, mandibular lymphoglandular swelling, and a Rhipicephalus sanguineus tick infestation in the case dog. The parvovirus antigen rapid test kit yielded negative results, whereas the TBD antibody test kit yielded positive results for Anaplasma sp., Babesia sp., and Ehrlichia sp. Infection with Giardia sp. and Amoeba sp. was detected by native stool examination. The dog had lymphocytosis, monocytosis, granulopenia, hyperchromic normocytic anemia, and thrombocytopenia. The therapy provided was metronidazole and doxycycline combination antibiotics, lactated ringer fluid (RL) therapy, vitamin B complex, Sangobion®, Fufang E'jiao Jiang® (FEJ), ondansetron, vitamin K1, kaolin-pectin, and Hill's Prescription Diet® A/D feed. The therapy showed significant improvement during the 3-day hospitalization, and the dog was declared clinically cured after two weeks of treatment.

Abstract

Coccidiosis is a serious parasitic disease of chickens caused by the protozoan Eimeria, with Eimeria tenella being one of the most virulent species. The infection causes necrosis and hemorrhage of the large intestine, resulting in significant economic losses in the poultry industry. The purpose of this case report was to determine the cause of death of broiler chickens in one farm in Kutuh Village, South Kuta Subdistrict, Badung Regency. The case animal (protocol number 39/N/24) was a 20-day-old broiler from the farm with a population of 18,000 birds. The examination process included anamnesis, clinical signs, anatomical pathology, histopathology, bacteriology, parasitology (including coprology and McMaster techniques), and morphometric identification of Eimeria tenella using ImageJ software. The clinical signs observed included anorexia, weakness, dull feathers, and reddish feces with a porridge-like consistency. Pathological examination revealed alterations in the cecum and colon. Histopathological analysis indicated typhlitis hemorrhagis et necrotican and colitis necrotican. Bacteriological examination revealed Escherichia coli, a normal flora, in the caecum and colon. Morphological and morphometric analyses of the oocysts revealed that E. tenella is ovoid, with two wall layers, an average size of 21.670 × 19.942 μm, and an oocyst count of 188,600 per gram of feces (OPG). The cause of death of the case chickens was due to severe Eimeria tenella infection.
