Abstract

This service is motivated by the abundance of natural resources owned by Cilentung Village, Pandeglang Regency. One of the main commodities is coconut where Cilentung Village is the top 10 supplier of coconuts in Pandeglang Regency. However, the utilization of coconuts has not been fully optimized by the local community because they only sell young coconuts to the city and the waste in the form of coconut fiber and shells is brought back to the village. So if left alone it will pollute the surrounding environment. The method of this service is a demonstration of the use of a pyrolysis machine to produce liquid smoke which has many benefits and high selling value. The results of the service stated that there was an increase in the skills of farmer groups by 84% and an increase in production by 85% because farmer groups can use pyrolysis machines to process coconut waste into derivative products in the form of liquid smoke.

Abstract

Birds play a crucial ecological role in maintaining forest ecosystem balance. However, environmental changes and anthropogenic pressures can affect bird population density and diversity in a given area. This study aims to identify the population density and diversity of birds in Banten Grand Forest Park. Data collection was conducted on June 22–23, 2024, using the Point Count method at five observation points within the Tahura Banten area. Observations were carried out in the morning (06:00–10:00 WIB) and in the afternoon (15:00–18:00 WIB). Population density was analyzed using the formula D = N/A, while bird diversity was assessed using the Shannon-Wiener Index. The results recorded 95 individual birds, classified into 25 species and 16 families. The Black-capped Babbler (Pellorneum capistratum) and the Common Iora (Aegithina tiphia) were the species with the highest density, reaching 2.55 individuals per hectare. The Shannon-Wiener Index calculation yielded a value of H’ = 3.03, indicating a high level of species diversity in the study area. These findings suggest that Tahura Banten remains an important habitat for various bird species. This study highlights the importance of forest ecosystem conservation in Banten Grand Forest Park to ensure the sustainability of bird populations and biodiversity in the region. Abstract

ABSTRACT Pandeglang is recorded as the district with the highest poverty rate in Banten Province until 2023. This is in contrast to the potential of the resources owned by the region. The superior plantation commodity in the form of coconut is one of the best and most abundant commodities in Banten Province. The problem found in Cilentung Village, Pulosari District, Pandeglang Regency is that people sell coconuts in bulk to the city, then the coconut waste is returned to the village, causing environmental pollution and no innovation in diversification of coconut waste derivative products. The purpose of PkM is to train the community in making Liquid Smoke from coconut waste to support the economic independence of the people of Cilentung Village, Pandeglang Regency. The methods used to answer this problem are socialization of liquid smoke waste into Liquid Smoke, application of pyrolysis technology and coconut waste shredding machines, training in Making Liquid Smoke from Coconut Waste, mentoring and evaluation of activities.

Abstract

Fresh fruit bunches (FFB) of oil palm are processed into crude palm oil (CPO) and palm oil waste. Palm oil waste, such as empty fruit bunches (EFB), has traditionally been incinerated, leading to increased carbon emissions in the atmosphere. However, EFB can be utilized as organic fertilizer and mulch for oil palm cultivation. This study aims to analyze the conversion of EFB waste into organic fertilizer and mulch. The research was conducted at PT Perkebunan Nusantara VII Kertajaya, Banten Province, from July 2023 to August 2024. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Participants were selected using purposive sampling, involving 20 individuals. The results indicate that the process of converting EFB waste into organic fertilizer and mulch comprises two main stages: (1) the processing of FFB into EFB waste, which includes the following steps: a) weighing, b) sorting, c) loading ramp, d) sterilization, e) stripping, and f) empty bunch hopper; and (2) the transformation of EFB waste into organic fertilizer and mulch. The production process for organic fertilizer and mulch occurs naturally. The EFB waste is applied as organic fertilizer and mulch by spreading it on the soil around the oil palm trees.
