Abstract

Abstrak.  Program pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan untuk menjawab permasalahan utama petani di wilayah perbukitan, khususnya pada aspek produksi jagung dan pemanfaatan limbah pertanian. Selama ini, proses pemipilan jagung masih dilakukan secara manual sehingga membutuhkan waktu lama, tenaga kerja besar, dan menghasilkan pipilan yang kurang bersih. Akibatnya, jagung lebih banyak dijual dalam bentuk tongkol dengan harga rendah, sementara potensi pemanfaatan limbah berupa tongkol belum tergarap secara optimal. Solusi yang ditawarkan adalah penerapan teknologi tepat guna berupa mesin pemipil jagung, disertai dengan sosialisasi pemanfaatan tongkol jagung menjadi briket arang. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi tahapan sosialisasi, pelatihan, penerapan, pendampingan, serta evaluasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan pada aspek produksi, dengan kapasitas mesin mencapai 150–200 kg/jam dibandingkan metode manual yang hanya sekitar 30 kg/jam. Jagung pipilan yang dihasilkan lebih bersih dan bernilai jual lebih tinggi. Mitra juga mengalami peningkatan keterampilan dalam mengoperasikan dan merawat mesin, manajemen produksi, serta pemasaran hasil panen. Dampak lain dari kegiatan ini adalah terbentuknya kesadaran baru terkait pemanfaatan limbah pertanian melalui sosialisasi briket arang tongkol jagung, meskipun implementasinya masih menjadi rencana lanjutan. Program ini secara keseluruhan berhasil meningkatkan produktivitas, pendapatan, dan keberdayaan petani, sekaligus memperkuat kerja sama kelompok. Dengan demikian, pengabdian ini membuktikan bahwa diversifikasi teknologi pemipilan dan pengolahan limbah mampu menjadi strategi efektif dalam meningkatkan kesejahteraan masyarakat perbukitan. Kata Kunci: Pemipilan Jagung, limbah pertanian, pemasaran kolektif, pemberdayaan masyarakat.

Abstract

Motorcycle starting failures and theft vulnerabilities remain significant issues in many developing regions, primarily owing to weaknesses in mechanical locking systems and inconsistent electrical performance. To address these challenges, this study developed and evaluated a smartphone-controlled smart system that integrates motorcycle starting and security functions using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi communication. This research aims to quantitatively assess the system’s responsiveness, communication stability, energy efficiency, and security performance under both laboratory and real-world operating conditions gaps that remain insufficiently explored in previous studies. The system was built using an ESP32 microcontroller equipped with AES-128 encrypted communication, a relay-based ignition interface, and an intrusion-detection module controlled through a dedicated mobile application. A series of 100 command trials were conducted to measure the latency, functional reliability, wireless transmission stability, power consumption, and alarm response time. The results show that Wi-Fi mode provides faster command execution, with response times consistently lower than Bluetooth mode, while Bluetooth demonstrates higher communication stability and lower energy usage. Both communication modes achieved operational accuracy above 97%, and the security subsystem responded rapidly to intrusion events, activating alarms in approximately 1.3 seconds. These findings indicate that the proposed system achieves a balanced performance across speed, reliability, and energy efficiency, validating its suitability for practical motorcycle automation and security applications. The primary contribution of this study lies in its comprehensive quantitative evaluation framework, which offers deeper empirical insight into IoT-based vehicle control performance. The results also provide a foundation for future advancements, including cloud-integrated monitoring, GPS-based tracking, and AI-driven predictive security.

Abstract

Abstrak. Pelatihan penggunaan simulator alat berat merupakan salah satu solusi inovatif dalam meningkatkan kompetensi keahlian siswa Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK), khususnya pada program keahlian teknik alat berat. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di SMK Kristen Harapan Rantepao yang berada di wilayah Toraja Utara. Sekolah ini menghadapi keterbatasan fasilitas praktik akibat mahalnya biaya pengadaan alat berat dan risiko keselamatan dalam penggunaannya. Tujuan utama dari pelatihan ini adalah untuk memberikan pengalaman belajar yang aman, efisien, dan mendekati kondisi nyata melalui teknologi simulasi. Pelatihan dilakukan selama tiga hari dan mencakup materi teori dasar alat berat, keselamatan kerja, serta praktik langsung menggunakan simulator alat berat berbasis komputer. Metode pelatihan yang digunakan bersifat partisipatif, dengan pendekatan yang menekankan pada praktik langsung agar siswa dapat mengasah keterampilan teknis secara efektif. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa para siswa mengalami peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman konsep dan keterampilan pengoperasian alat berat. Respons peserta sangat positif, dan mayoritas menyatakan bahwa pelatihan ini meningkatkan kepercayaan diri mereka dalam menghadapi dunia kerja. Pihak sekolah juga memberikan dukungan penuh dan berkomitmen untuk menjadikan simulator sebagai bagian dari kurikulum pembelajaran kejuruan. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat menjadi contoh bagi sekolah-sekolah kejuruan lainnya dalam memanfaatkan teknologi untuk mendukung pembelajaran praktik, khususnya di wilayah yang memiliki keterbatasan sumber daya. Kata kunci: SMK, alat berat, pelatihan, simulator, kompetensi keahlian

Abstract

This study examines changes in students’ procedural accuracy after participation in interactive virtual simulation-based learning in motorcycle electrical system instruction within vocational education. The study addresses the persistent issue of low procedural accuracy among vocational students, particularly in diagnostic sequencing, wiring interpretation, tool utilization, and troubleshooting procedures. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed involving 90 vocational students from three vocational high schools in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data were collected using a procedural error assessment instrument consisting of performance-based troubleshooting tasks and structured observation checklists administered under equivalent assessment conditions during the pretest and posttest. The intervention was conducted over six weeks using interactive virtual simulation media integrating guided troubleshooting procedures, visual circuit representation, and immediate corrective feedback. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, Shapiro–Wilk normality testing, paired sample t-test analysis, and Cohen’s d effect size estimation. The findings indicated substantial improvement in students’ procedural performance after participation in the simulation-based learning activities. The mean procedural accuracy score increased from 61.24 during the pretest to 82.67 during the posttest, while the average procedural error frequency decreased from 7.3 to 2.1 errors per student. The paired sample t-test revealed a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores, t(89) = 18.42, p < 0.001, with a large effect size (d = 1.85). Nevertheless, because the study employed a one-group design without a control group, the findings should be interpreted cautiously and do not establish definitive causal superiority of the intervention over conventional instruction. Overall, the findings suggest that interactive virtual simulation media may support procedural learning and troubleshooting practice in vocational automotive education. The study contributes to the literature by emphasizing procedural error reduction as an important indicator of technical competency development in motorcycle electrical system learning.

Abstract

This study examined the effectiveness of digital pattern-making-based instruction in improving students’ pattern accuracy and production efficiency in vocational fashion education. The study specifically addressed the limited empirical evidence concerning the simultaneous evaluation of technical precision and workflow efficiency within vocational secondary school contexts in Indonesia. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design was employed involving 60 eleventh-grade students enrolled in the Fashion Design Program at SMK Negeri 8 Makassar, Indonesia. The participants were divided into an experimental group (n = 30) and a control group (n = 30). The experimental group received instruction using CAD-based digital pattern-making software (CLO 3D), while the control group received conventional manual pattern-making instruction. Data were collected using a performance assessment rubric and a structured time-recording instrument. The rubric evaluated measurement accuracy, pattern completeness, line consistency, and adherence to design specifications. Content validity was established through expert judgment involving vocational education specialists and fashion industry practitioners, while reliability testing produced a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of 0.89, indicating high internal consistency. The findings revealed that students who received digital instruction achieved significantly higher pattern accuracy (M = 84.72, SD = 5.21) than students in the control group (M = 71.36, SD = 6.03), t(58) = 9.18, p < 0.001, with a very large effect size (Cohen’s d = 5.63). The experimental group also demonstrated significantly higher production efficiency (M = 65.40 minutes) compared with the control group (M = 82.15 minutes), t(58) = -9.18, p < 0.001, with a large practical effect (Cohen’s d = 2.37). These findings indicate that digital pattern-making instruction effectively enhances technical competency and workflow efficiency in vocational fashion education.

Abstract

Purpose – This study examined the implementation of a smart system-based trainer with multi-authentication in vocational motorcycle security-system learning. The trainer integrated fingerprint recognition, voice command, and smartphone-based control to support authentic and practice-oriented learning activities in vocational automotive education. The study aimed to evaluate whether the trainer was associated with improvements in students’ cognitive and practical competence within the instructional context of the study. Methods – This research employed a quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design involving 60 students from the Motorcycle Business and Engineering Department at SMK Negeri 5 Gowa, Indonesia. The participants were divided into an experimental group and a control group using intact classroom assignment. Data were collected using competence tests, practical performance rubrics, observation sheets, and student response questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normalized gain (N-gain), assumption testing, and t-test analysis. Findings – The findings showed that the experimental group achieved higher posttest scores, stronger N-gain values, and better practical performance compared to the control group. The results also indicated more active classroom participation and positive student responses toward the instructional media in the experimental group. Research Implications – These findings suggest that the smart system-based trainer was associated with improved short-term cognitive and practical learning outcomes within the context of this classroom implementation. Originality – However, the findings should be interpreted cautiously because the study was conducted in one vocational school using non-randomized classroom groups and a relatively short intervention period. Therefore, the results represent initial empirical evidence rather than definitive proof of broad instructional effectiveness in vocational education.
