Abstract

Rheumatism is a common health problem among the elderly, characterized by joint pain, stiffness, and limited mobility. This condition can disrupt daily activities and reduce quality of life. To increase public awareness of rheumatism management, a community service program (KKN-T) program, including a ginger compress, was conducted in Hamlet 3, Sumber Sari Village, as part of the Community Service Program (KKN-T) program at the Faculty of Health Sciences. Twenty-five participants, the majority of whom were elderly, attended the program. The training covered the definition of rheumatism, its signs and symptoms, causes, and the benefits of ginger compresses as a non-pharmacological therapy. Demonstrations on how to make and apply ginger compresses were conducted in person to ensure proper practice. The results of the program demonstrated an increase in participants' understanding of rheumatism and its management. Participants were also able to try ginger compresses directly and experience the benefits of the warm sensation that helps reduce joint tension and pain. Ginger compress therapy is considered easy, safe, and effective as a supportive measure in reducing rheumatic pain in the elderly.

Abstract

Hypertension is a major non-communicable disease (NCD) in Indonesia and often remains undetected at the community level. This Community Service Program (KKN) was conducted in RT 07 with the aim of identifying hypertension cases, providing health education, and implementing early interventions to reduce the risk of complications. The activity consisted of four stages: preparation, door-to-door surveys, community education, and evaluation. Of the 212 residents examined, 160 were adults over 18 years old, and 26 individuals (12.26%) were found to have hypertension, predominantly within the 50–70-year age group. Major risk factors identified included high salt intake (70%), lack of physical activity (60%), and a family history of hypertension (45%). The educational intervention improved community knowledge by 35%, and 15 residents were referred to the local health center for further treatment. The results indicate that a door-to-door approach is effective in detecting hidden hypertension cases and improving public health awareness. Continuous blood pressure monitoring and community-based health education programs are essential to preventing the rise in hypertension cases and related complications.

Abstract

Puberty in adolescent girls is marked by menarche, which is the first menstruation that occurs due to the shedding of the endometrial layer containing many blood vessels in the uterus. Based on the researcher's initial survey of several parents of adolescent girls at SDN 66 Bengkulu City, it was found that most parents did not fully understand the importance of early reproductive health education. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the role of parents in reproductive health education and the readiness of adolescent girls at SDN 66 Kota Bengkulu to face menarche. This study used a quantitative descriptive method for a cross-sectional research design. The population in this study consisted of 59 female adolescents in grades 4 and 5 at SDN 66 Bengkulu City. The sample consisted of 36 female adolescents. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires. Bivariate analysis used the chi-square statistical test. Most parents of adolescent girls at SDN 66 Bengkulu City played a positive role in reproductive health education, namely 55.6%. And most adolescent girls at SDN 66 Bengkulu City, namely 66.7%, showed readiness to face menarche. The results of the chi-square test showed a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05). It is recommended that parents, schools, and adolescent girls play an active role in reproductive health education from an early age through positive communication and reliable sources of information. Furthermore, it is hoped that future researchers will develop this study with a broader scope and more diverse variables.

Abstract

Biologically, older adults experience a continuous aging process characterized by a decline in physical resistance to disease. This physical decline can be seen primarily in the ability of older adults to perform activities of daily living such as dressing, defecating or urinating, eating, drinking, walking, sleeping, and bathing. The ability to perform these activities can be used to assess whether older adults are independent or dependent on others. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the role of the family and the ability to perform ADL (activities of daily living) in the elderly in the Lubuklinggau Perumnas Community Health Center Working Area in 2025. The research method used was descriptive research with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with a sample size of 33 elderly people in the Lubuklinggau Perumnas Community Health Center Working Area in 2025. The data collection technique in this study used primary data (directly from respondents using questionnaires) and secondary data (data sources available at the Lubuklinggau City Health Office and the Perumnas Lubuklinggau Community Health Center). The data analysis technique in this study used univariate and bivariate analysis. Bivariate analysis used the chi-square test. The results of the univariate analysis showed that most of the respondents (30.3%) had insufficient family support, while a small portion of the respondents (12.1%) had limited ability in activities of daily living.

Abstract

In Indonesia, approximately 40% to 50% of the population experiences sleep disorders, most of whom are elderly. These sleep disorders usually occur simultaneously with other conditions such as physical problems and mental illnesses (depression, anxiety disorders) that can lead to poor sleep quality (Khadijah, 2023). The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between stress levels and sleep quality among the elderly in the Prumnas Lubuklinggau Community Health Centre Working Area in 2025.The research method used was descriptive quantitative research with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling with a sample size of 62 people. The results of the univariate test analysis showed that a small proportion of respondents (22.6%) had severe stress, while the majority of respondents (51.6%) had poor sleep quality. The results of the bivariate analysis of the relationship between stress levels and sleep quality in the elderly (p-value 0.002) showed that there is a relationship between stress levels and sleep quality in the elderly in the Prumnas Lubuklinggau Community Health Centre Working Area in 2025.The elderly are advised to manage stress by doing relaxation activities such as light exercise, praying, and increasing positive social interactions. Regulating a regular sleep routine, avoiding caffeine consumption at night, and creating a comfortable sleeping environment can also help improve sleep quality, as well as understanding the relationship between stress levels and sleep quality in the elderly in their area. For the research site, this can be used as additional information about the relationship between stress levels and sleep quality in the elderly. For the Faculty of Health Sciences at Dehasen, this can be used as input in planning and developing health intervention programmes to address existing issues related to the relationship between stress levels and sleep quality in the elderly.

Abstract

Palliative care is an approach that aims to improve the quality of life of patients with chronic and terminal illnesses. Nurses' knowledge and attitudes are important factors in the success of palliative care services. This study aims to determine the relationship between nurses' knowledge and attitudes towards palliative care at the Harapan dan Doa Regional General Hospital in Bengkulu City. This study used a descriptive analytical cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 35 nurses working in the ICU, haemodialysis unit, and Madinah unit, selected using total sampling. The research instruments were questionnaires on nurses' knowledge and attitudes towards palliative care. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the chi-square test. The results showed that most nurses had good knowledge of palliative care (77.2%) and a positive attitude (68.6%). The majority of nurses also practised palliative care at a high level (91.4%). The chi-square test yielded a p-value of 0.004 for the relationship between knowledge and practice, and a p-value of 0.028 for the relationship between attitude and practice, which means that there is a significant relationship between nurses' knowledge and attitude towards palliative care. The conclusion of this study is that nurses' knowledge and attitudes play an important role in supporting palliative care practices. It is recommended that training, seminars, and continuing education be provided so that all nurses have equal knowledge and positive attitudes, thereby optimising the quality of palliative care services in hospitals.

Abstract

Based on 2020 WHO data, approximately 10% to 20% of children worldwide experience sleep problems, as well as health problems caused by sleep deprivation in adolescents, such as obesity and mental disorders. A 2020 study by the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) in the United States found that children under 16, including those aged 6-10, frequently experience sleep deprivation. 60% complained of daytime fatigue, and 15% reported feeling sleepy at school. The results of a systematic review and meta-analysis indicate that 76% of pediatric patients undergoing hospitalization experience poor sleep quality and insufficient sleep duration. Objective: To determine the effect of foot reflexology massage on sleep quality in children aged 6-10 years at Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah Siti Aisyah Lubuklinggau in 2025.The study design was pre-experimental, using a one-group pre-test post-test design, involving one group of subjects. Data were obtained by administering the Children's Sleep Habit Questionnaire (CSHQ) to 32 children who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The questionnaires were completed before and after the foot reflexology massage intervention. The results of the univariate analysis showed that the majority of respondents (50%) did not have good sleep quality before the massage. The majority of respondents (50%) had good sleep quality after the massage. There is an effect of foot reflexology massage on sleep quality in children in the pediatric ward of RSUD Siti Aisyah Lubuklinggau, with a ρ-value of 0.000 (< α = 0.05). Therefore, H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected.Foot reflexology massage therapy can be used as an alternative therapy to improve sleep quality in children aged 6-10 years old after hospitalization and to provide knowledge that foot reflexology massage is necessary to support the healing process.

Abstract

Rapid physical growth is not accompanied by mental maturity or psychological development. This is closely related to the age at which a child experiences menarche, which nowadays tends to occur earlier due to various influencing factors. Early menarche before a child reaches mental maturity, coupled with a lack of knowledge, evokes various psychological responses in girls experiencing menarche. Early menarche in girls also increases the risk of breast cancer, the incidence of abortion due to premarital sexual relations, and the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of health education about menarche on the knowledge level of female adolescents at SD 66 in Bengkulu City. This research design uses a Pre-Experimental method with a One Group pre-post test design approach. The sample in this study consisted of 24 patients, using accidental sampling technique and the measurement tool used was a questionnaire sheet. Data analysis was conducted using the Paired t-test with a significance level of α 0.05. The univariate analysis results show that more than half of the respondents (54.2%) had sufficient knowledge before being given health education and more than half of the respondents (54.2%) had good knowledge after receiving health education. Bivariate analysis results indicate that health education on menarche has an effect on the level of knowledge of adolescent girls at SD 66 Bengkulu City with a p value of 0.000 ≤ 0.005. It is hoped that teachers at SD 66 in Bengkulu City can develop activity programs to support the improvement of reproductive health knowledge, particularly menarche, through health education, either by counselling or providing material outside lessons using engaging media such as audiovisual media like animated videos.
