Abstract

Research related to the influence of facilities on the quality of fish landed and auctioned has been done previously, but the catches under this study are still limited to large pelagic fish with complex fish auction facilities. This study was conducted for small pelagic fish where the handling facilities at this location are still very limited. Therefore, survey research with purpose to analyze the effect of handling facilities (ships, fish auction sites, baskets) on the quality of small pelagic fish. The data taken is daily data with the method of observation at the location on the ship, fish auction place, and baskets. The species that taken were Eleutheronema tetradactylum, Ilisha elongate, Pampus argenteus, and Johnius trachychepalus. Each species consists of 5 individuals. Its tests was done by looking at the organoleptic and pH values. The tests were done to every species of fish. The pH value was obtained by testing the fish meat sample on the meat pH meter, while the organoleptic value was obtained by looking at the physical condition of the fish using a score sheet of fresh fish quality parameters. Then after the results are obtained, an analysis is carried out to determine the magnitude of facility influence on fish quality by simple linear regression analysis. The organoleptic values of four kinds of samples were on average 6.84 - 4.95, while the pH values measured in these fish ranged from 6.3 - 5.94. The effect of fish handling facilities on the organoleptic value is 82% compared to other factors. The fish quality as measured by the organoleptic test showed a fairly good quality, while measured by the pH test showed good results. Handling facilities do not greatly affect the quality of fish and there are other factors that can affect the decline in fish quality other than facilities. The relationship between fish handling facilities and quality can give an overview of the contribution of handling facilities to fish quality. Keywords:Fish auction marketFish qualityHandling facilities

Abstract

Crab (Portunus pelagicus) is one of the fishery commodities that has high economic value, but fishermen in the waters of Medan Belawan still have difficulty in determining the location of the fishing area. Therefore, information is needed regarding the condition of potential arrest areas in an effort to speed up the trip of arrest operations and reduce fuel consumption. The purpose of this study is to map the distribution of sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a as well as crab catches and also to analyze potential crab fishing areas. The method used is a survey method by recording the coordinates of the fishing area and the number of catches. Sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a are obtained by downloading MODIS satellite imagery. The analysis used in this study is a linear regression analysis that serves to see the influence of sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a on crab catches. The results obtained were the distribution of SPL and chlorophyll-a in Medan Belawan waters during February varied greatly, SPL ranged from 24.13ºC to 29.67ºC with an average value of 27.73ºC. While chlorophyll-a ranged from 0.11 mg/m3 to 3.52 mg/m3 with an average value of 1.613 mg/m3. The catch of crabs during February reached 6,253 kg, with the most catches of 2,380 kg, namely on February 18-25 and at least 264 kg on January 25 to February 1. The results of the analysis of the indicators of estimating the potential area of crabs show that those that are included in the potential category are KM. Khadijah, KM. Sifolin-folin 012, KM. Lugage, KM. Maduma 05, KM. SS XIII, KM. Aura, and KM. Malika Pala 1, while others fall into the potential medium category.

Abstract

Sabang as the westernmost region of Indonesia and bordering the Indian Ocean and the Malacca Strait has fishery potential that must be maintained so that it is sustainable. Good management of grouper fish (Epinephelus sp.) resources is a solution so that fishery potential remains sustainable, one of which is the ecosystem approach. So far, many studies related to grouper management based on an ecosystem approach have been carried out in several regions in Indonesia, but none have focused on fisheries in Sabang. Therefore, this study aims to assess the status of grouper resource management, provide management recommendations and disseminate the results of the assessment of grouper resource management status in Sabang. This research was conducted from July to August 2022, located in Sabang, Aceh. Observation and direct interviews were conducted to collect the data and then analyzed by a multi-criteria analysis with composite index development. Based on the value of these indicators, it shows that the domain of grouper fish resources in Sabang caught using the hand line is good category with a green flag model and a composite value of 82. This means that the management of grouper fish resources in Sabang has not been running optimally. So, it is necessary to improve fisheries management in several aspects to support sustainable fisheries management. Keywords:GrouperEAFMSabangFisheriesSustainability

Abstract

Healthy seagrass beds have high ecological value, characterized by high diversity and even distribution in the water. However, currently, the health condition of seagrass beds is threatened both naturally and by human activities. For example, the loss of seagrass meadows due to human activities in coastal areas, including on Maitara Island, North Maluku Province, Indonesia. The objective of this research is to identify the community structure of seagrass, and the proper management options to minimize negative impacts on damage to the seagrass meadow ecosystem and sustain seagrass resources. The study was conducted in the South Maitara and the North Maitara, during the dry season from September to October 2020 using vertical transect methods. The result shows that the average index of diversity, evenness, and dominance on Maitara Island of 1.0970, 0.6470, and 0.5892, respectively. The beaches of South Maitara and North Maitara have poor diversity, a good category for evenness, and a stable community. Enhalus acoroides has the highest density of 294 ind/m2, followed by Thalassia hemprichii around 287 ind/m2. Based on the ecosystem aproach fisheries management (EAFM) analysis, to effectively manage seagrass ecosystems in Maitara Island, a social development strategy is needed through community awareness, counseling, and capacity building in the management and utilization of seagrass ecosystems in Maitara Island to effectively manage the seagrass ecosystem in Maitara Island, a social development strategy is needed through public awareness, counseling, and capacity building in the management and utilization of the seagrass ecosystem in Maitara Island. Keywords:Seagrasscommunity structurediversitydensityevennessMaitara Island
