Abstract

The objective of the study is to find out the effect of using save the last word for me method toward students’ writing skill for the eighth grade students’ at SMPN 36 Batam in academic year 2016/2017. The kind of this study was quantitative research. The research design was experimental design. In this study focused on quasi experimental design. The population of this study was all students for the eighth grade at SMPN 36 Batam in Academic Year 2016/2017 consist of 270 students. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. Then, the total number of sample was 60 students that consisted of 30 students of class VIII.6 who were taught by using Save The Last Word For Me method and 30 students of class VIII.4 who were taught by using Think Pair Share method. The data was collected by test. The data was analyzed by using normality test, homogeneity test and hypothesis test. The result showed that the t-observed was 2.97 and the t-table was 2.002. It means that t-observed was higher than t-table. Therefore, alternative hypothesis () was accepted and null hypothesis () was rejected. The research found that there was a significant effect of using Save The Last Word For Me method toward students’ writing skill for the eighth grade students’ at SMPN 36 Batam in academic year 2016/2017

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the students’ perception of using video dubbing project in teaching speaking for fourth semester students UNRIKA in academic year 2018-2019. A set of questionnaires and open-ended interview were conducted to obtain the data. Data were categorized into three levels namely positive, neutral, and negative. The results revealed almost all students perceived positive perception towards the implementation of video dubbing project in teaching speaking. The result of interview was also in line with result obtained through questionnaires. Students admitted that they performed better speaking skill after the implementation of video dubbing. They also felt being engaged in learning activity and triggered them to be more active. They considered video dubbing was fun, challenging, and can be done anytime and anywhere.  In light of the findings, it can be considered as a favorable and effective teaching activity to enhance students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

AbstractThe objective of this study is to identify the types of error and the dominant error which made by students’ on writing descriptive text. The method which applied of this research is descriptive qualitative. The subject of the study is tenth grade which consist 31 students. Data was collected by portfolio and analyzed by descriptive method to describe the students error by the formula of percentage which the number of error were divided the total number of error then multiply to 100 as constant number. The result of the research there was 357 errors in writing descriptive text. There were 25.21% with number 90 errors of spelling, 22.69% with number 81 errors of capitalization, 12.88% with number 46 errors of word choice, 9.24% with number 33 errors of singular-plural, 8.68% with number 31 errors of add or omit a word, 8.68% with number 31 errors of meaning not clear, 6.16% with number 22 errors of verb tense, 1.96% with number 7 errors of  punctuation, 1.96% with number 7 errors of article, 1.68% with number 6 errors of word order, 0.28% with number 1 error of run-on sentence, 0.28% with number 1 error of word form, 0.28% with number 1 error of incomplete sentence. The dominant error which made by students on writing descriptive text was 25.21% with number 90 errors of spelling.

Abstract

Learning media is an important component in learning. One of the media that can be used is audio visual media. The aim of this study was to develop a feasible Audio Visual Text Module on Congratulation and Compliment Expressions as learning media.This reasearch was conducted at Karang Taruna RW 17 English Course Sei Langkai, Batam, and research and development (R&D)Hannafin and Peck modelwas used. The instrument used to collect data in this research wasquestionnaireswhich validated by material and media experts, then shared to tutors and studentsusing a Likert scale. Product trial obtained 77.02% for students response and it was categorized as ‘agree’ category. Meanwhile it obtained 76.67% for tutor rensponse and it was categorized as ‘agree’ category.Usage trial obtained 87.07% for students response and it was categorized as ‘strongly agree’ category. Meanwhile it obtained 88.66 for tutor rensponse and it was categorized as ‘strongly agree’ category. The products of this research are module and audio visual (MP4) about Congratulating and Compliment Expressions, and both are neccessary to be used as learning media.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to find out whether Mind Mapping is effective or not in improving students’ ability in writing tourism brochures at SMA 20 Batam. This study is limited on writing tourism brochure for tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 20 Batam in Academic year 2017/2018. The study was designed by the writer by using true experimental design (pre-test and post-test control group). The population of the study were tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 20 Batam academic year 2017/2018. There were eight classes of tenth grade students with the total number 300 students. The samples of this study were two classes which consist of 30 students in experiment class and 30 students in control class. The instrument of this study was written test. The data analysis was used Independent Samples Test on IBM SPSS statistics 20 to perform T-test. The result showed that the Sig.(2-tailed) of students’ pre-test and post-test in experimental was 0.401 and standard significance level was 0.05. By comparing the Sig.(2-tailed) and standard  significance level, it was known that Sig.(2-tailed) was bigger than standard significance level (0.401 0.05). It means there was no significant difference in writing tourism brochure before and after taught by using Mind Mapping in experimental class. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected and the null hypothesis (Ho) was accepted. The conclusion of Mind Mapping was not given significant effect in improving students’ ability in writing tourism brochure.

Abstract

This study was designed at identifying the effect of Project-Based Learning implementation on the secondary students’ writing skills at the tenth grade of senior high school 21 Batam. The design of this research was running by quasi-experimental research non-equivalent control group design. The research variable consists of a control class as a dependent variable and the experiment class as an independent variable. To meet the purposes of the research, the researcher selected all the tenth grades students to be the participants of this research. Both of the classes first science class and second science class were the samples of this research. The data were collected through the running written test which consists of pre-test and post-test (in which the participants wrote the simple recount text). The analysis of data used a one-sample t-test with a significance level 5%. The statistic process showed that the t-test is bigger than the t-table. Means, the result of this study showed that the Project-Based Learning gave the effect toward the secondary students’ writing skill in simple recount text.

Abstract

A suitably learning model greatly reassurances the learning efficacy, learning endings and students’ competence in dealing with uncertainty changes in the future. This study drives to legitimize strongly that the collaborative learning model is a suitably model which urgently to be set-off to advance students' competence in fronting the society 5.0 era in Indonesia. To achieve the research ambitions, a qualitative method which systematic literature review design was orchestrated. Research data was poised by collecting 20 previous research judgement from the internet approximately the results of collaborative learning model implementation. Data analysis performance consist of data collection, data presentation, data condensation, and drawing conclusions. The analysis fallouts: 1) Collaborative learning is a learning model which has been empirically proven to be appropriate for Indonesian English teachers to apply in society 5.0 era. 2) The application of collaborative learning model has been empirically proven to be able to increase the competencies needed in society 5.0 era, namely English communication skills, critical thinking, collaborating, and solving problems skills. Afterwards, collaborative learning model must be become skilled theoretically and practically by Indonesian English teachers to produce the excellence graduates to fronting the vagueness in society 5.0 era
