Abstract

This study aims to analyze and compare the readability levels of Sundanese language textbooks for eighth-grade junior high school students using Fry’s Readability Graph. The research employed a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through document analysis by examining the discourses contained in the textbooks. The objects of this study were the Rancagé Diajar Basa Sunda Grade VIII textbook published by Pustaka Jaya and the Wiwaha Basa Grade VIII textbook published by Geger Sunten. Data analysis was conducted using the Fry Graph formula by calculating the average number of sentences and syllables per 100 words, which were then plotted on the Fry Graph to estimate the readability levels of the texts. The results indicate that the Rancagé Diajar Basa Sunda textbook falls within the readability range of grades 5–7, whereas the Wiwaha Basa textbook falls within the range of grades 6–8, making it more appropriate for the expected reading ability of eighth-grade students. These findings provide valuable insights for teachers and textbook authors to pay greater attention to linguistic features and text structure in the development of instructional materials. Consequently, this study contributes to improving the quality of Sundanese language textbooks and supports more effective learning that is aligned with students’ reading abilities.

Abstract

Textbooks serve as a mandatory guide in the teaching and learning process in schools, one example is the Panggelar Basa Sunda textbook for Senior High School class XII. The purpose of this study is to analyze the quality of textbook content. The method used uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The source of data in this study is the Panggelar Basa Sunda textbook for Grade XII High School. Data was obtained through documentation techniques. The results of this study explain that the Panggelar Basa Sunda textbook for Senior High School Class XII has met the content quality indicators in accordance with the 2022 Education Standards, Curriculum, and Assessment Agency [Badan Standar, Kurikulum, dan Asesmen Pendidikan]. These indicators include scientific accuracy, conformity with local content set by the governor, alignment with the development of science and technology, relevance to the context and environment, and coherence among the content sections of the book. In addition, it is also collaborated with the Jabar Masagi program as an implementation of the local content of the Merdeka Curriculum. Therefore, the textbooks are in line with the quality of content required by 21st century education. The implications of this research provide benefits for students and teachers in using textbooks in schools and a form of synergy between the central and local governments.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the readability level of 43 texts in the book Rancagé Diajar Basa Sunda for junior high school students using Fry Graphs, as well as to evaluate their suitability for readers aged 12 to 15 years. This study uses a document analysis method comprising steps such as text identification, calculation of sentence and syllable counts, graph mapping, and interpretation of results in the context of Sundanese. The results showed that only 11 texts (26%) were in the "suitable" category, while most were in the low and very low categories. However, such low scores do not necessarily reflect incompatibility, because the clarity of sentence structure is a way to accommodate the limitations in mastery of Sundanese cultural vocabulary among junior high school students. The results of this study show that Fry's Graph must be interpreted in a real way in Sundanese. By implication, teachers and book writers must balance simple sentences with important cultural vocabulary. At the same time, authorities can use these results to formulate readability standards for local Sundanese materials.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menelaah dan merancang sebuah model asesmen pembelajaran dongeng berbasis tradisi lisan Sunda, asesmen berfungsi sebagai pengukur, pengevaluasi, dan penelaahan kebutuhan suatu pembelajaran. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat suatu perancangan model awal asesmen lisan berbasis tradisi dongeng Sunda untuk siswa pada tahapan Fase D. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif, sumber data meruapakan buku-buku, dokumen perencanaan asesmen fase D, dan validasi-validasi dari para ahli dan pengajar senior. Adapun teknik pengolahan data yang digunakan adalah reduksi data, display data dan penarikan kesimpulan serta verifikasi kesimpulan. Hasil dari perancangan ini adalah sebuah rancangan mode awal asesmen lisan berbasis tradisi dongeng Sunda di fase D, adapun bentuk dari rancangan modelnya adalah asesmen yang berupa praktik dengan keaktifan siswa, penelitian ini dapat digunakan untuk perancangan model asesmen atau model pembelajaran yang berbasis tradisi daerah.
