Abstract

There were efforts to send a message of peace seem necessary to eliminate all kinds of terrorist stereotypes against Muslims. Many western films were produced to convey the message of peace were made with many attempts. One of these is Ridley Scott's Kingdom of Heaven (2005), set during the Crusades in the late 12th century as a historical piece from the Battle of Jerusalem. This study focused on the character structure of the film Kingdom of Heaven in such a way that the message of peace is conveyed in the film. The study used a qualitative approach combined with the descriptive analysis approach of Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory, called the trichotomy of sign meaning. Data collection techniques using observation, identification and documentation for the film Kingdom of Heaven. The results showed that the image of the message of peace expressed in the film was a war in the name of religion and does not seem to defend a particular religion, but is shaped by different interests. In conclusion, the film determined that not all westerners are good and not all Muslims are bad. Keywords: kingdom of heaven, signs messages of peace, Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory

Abstract

Sebagai negara maritim, Indonesia memiliki potensi besar dalam pengelolaan sumber daya pesisir dan laut, baik dari aspek ekonomi maupun ekologi. Namun, ketidakterpaduan dalam pengelolaan serta meningkatnya aktivitas manusia telah menyebabkan degradasi lingkungan pesisir. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis dampak kegiatan ekonomi masyarakat terhadap ekosistem pesisir berdasarkan perspektif masyarakat lokal di Situbondo. Metode yang digunakan adalah survei melalui kuesioner online dengan responden yang berdomisili di wilayah pesisir. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas responden berusia produktif dan berpendidikan tinggi, serta terlibat dalam kegiatan ekonomi pesisir, terutama penangkapan ikan. Sebagian besar responden menilai bahwa kegiatan ekonomi memberikan pengaruh besar terhadap keseimbangan ekosistem, dengan penangkapan ikan berlebihan sebagai faktor utama perubahan lingkungan. Sebagai solusi, responden mengusulkan penguatan pengelolaan sumber daya alam dan peran aktif masyarakat. Kawasan Pantai Sedulur Berigheen di Panarukan, Situbondo, memiliki potensi untuk dikembangkan menjadi kawasan ekowisata berbasis edukasi, khususnya melalui pemanfaatan hutan mangrove sebagai daya tarik wisata.

Abstract

This study examines the communities in four countries—Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, and Malaysia in Beyond Belief: Islamic Excursions Among the Converted Peoples, which portrays Muslim Through the character of "I," who evolves into an authoritative narrator, Naipaul seeks to justify the representations in the narrative as reflections of his own perspective. Despite the often negative depictions of Muslim societies in these countries, Naipaul aims to document aspects of the Muslim community that have remained unrecorded. His efforts to make Islam 'readable' are evident throughout the work, yet they evoke a sense of powerlessness among those subjected to such portrayals, who are unable to voice their own narratives. From a da’wah studies perspective, the implications of this research lie in critically assessing external narratives that marginalize Muslim voices. By deconstructing these representations, this study highlights the importance of reclaiming an authentic Islamic identity and countering misrepresentations. Furthermore, it invites reflection on how da’wah can respond to external narratives, promoting a more accurate and fair understanding of Islam in a fragmented global society.

Abstract

Character development is a literary element that refers to the process through which characters are shaped with traits that establish their role and presence within the narrative world. This research aims to analyze the character development of Jinx in Arcane Season one (2021) using film theories by Petrie Boggs, with a particular focus on identifying the irony that shapes. A descriptive qualitative approach is used due to the use of narrative structure, visuals, and dialogue. The study identifies six key moments in Jinx’s development across episodes 1 to 9. Each moment is marked by a specific type of irony: dramatic irony, irony of situation, irony of character, irony of setting, irony of tone, and cosmic irony. This irony serves to deepen the audience’s understanding of her complex identity shift from Powder to Jinx. This study concludes that Arcane constructs Jinx’s character development as an ironic tragedy. Each ironic turn in the story underscores the tension between who Jinx was, how others perceived her, and who she chooses to become.

Abstract

Artikel ini menganalisis dua karya penting dalam genre sastra politik Islam klasik, mirror for princes, yaitu Siyasatnama karya Nizam al-Mulk dan Qabusnameh. Dengan fokus pada bagian Advice to Governors dalam Siyasatnama dan The Purchase of Slaves dalam Qabusnameh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan membandingkan nilai-nilai politik, etika, dan manajerial yang terkandung di dalamnya. Siyasatnama menawarkan panduan komprehensif tentang tata kelola pemerintahan yang ideal, menekankan prinsip-prinsip keadilan dan manajemen negara yang efektif. Sementara itu, Qabus nameh memberikan nasihat yang lebih personal dan praktis mengenai pemilihan budak berdasarkan karakteristik fisik dan temperamen. Melalui pendekatan komparatif, artikel ini menyoroti perbedaan fokus dan skala nasihat dalam kedua karya, di mana Siyasat nameh berorientasi pada politik dan kesejahteraan negara secara luas, sedangkan Qabus nameh lebih menekankan pada hubungan interpersonal dalam konteks sosial pada masanya. Meskipun demikian, keduanya memberikan wawasan berharga tentang pemikiran politik dan etika kepemimpinan dalam tradisi Islam klasik.

Abstract

This analysis explores two central themes in Ibn Hazm’s works—love and anxiety—by examining their interplay and impact on human behavior. Through a close reading of Tawq al-Hamamah (The Dove’s Neckring) and Filsafat al-Akhlaq wal-Siyar (Philosophy of Morals and Conduct), the study reveals Ibn Hazm’s view of love as a profound yet complex experience that engenders not only joy but also anxiety, longing, and uncertainty. Anxiety, in Ibn Hazm’s framework, arises as a natural response to relational vulnerability and moral responsibility. Furthermore, the analysis highlights his proposed remedies for anxiety, emphasizing character development, ethical practice, and spiritual connection with God. Employing an interdisciplinary approach—integrating literary studies, psychology, and moral philosophy—this research enriches understanding of emotional dynamics in classical Islamic thought while underscoring its relevance to modern life, where love and anxiety remain universal human experiences. The findings aim to inspire further studies on the intersection of emotion, morality, and spirituality in Islamic intellectual tradition and its dialogue with contemporary perspectives. Abstrak Analisis ini mengeksplorasi tema utama dalam karya-karya Ibn Hazm cinta dan kecemasan dengan meneliti interaksi dan dampaknya terhadap perilaku manusia. Melalui pembacaan yang cermat terhadap Tawq al-Hamamah (Cincin Leher Merpati) dan Filsafat al-Akhlaq wal-Siyar (Filsafat Moral dan Perilaku), penelitian ini mengungkap pandangan Ibn Hazm tentang cinta sebagai pengalaman yang mendalam namun tidak hanya menimbulkan kegembiraan tetapi juga kecemasan, kerinduan, dan ketidakpastian. Kecemasan, dalam kerangka Ibn Hazm, muncul sebagai respons alami terhadap kerentanan relasional dan tanggung jawab moral. Lebih jauh, analisis ini menyoroti solusi yang diusulkannya untuk kecemasan, menekankan pengembangan karakter, praktik etika, dan hubungan spiritual dengan Tuhan. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan interdisipliner mengintegrasikan studi sastra, psikologi, dan filsafat moral penelitian ini memperkaya pemahaman tentang dinamika emosional dalam pemikiran Islam klasik sambil menggarisbawahi relevansinya dengan kehidupan modern, di mana cinta dan kecemasan menjadi pengalaman manusia yang universal. Temuan ini bertujuan untuk menginspirasi tentang persimpangan emosi, moralitas, dan spiritualitas dalam tradisi intelektual Islam.

Abstract

The DC 110 Volt system is a critical component in substations, serving to support the operation of control and protection devices. Instability in voltage or current within this system can result in serious failures in overall substation performance. Therefore, “Monitoring of the DC 110 Volt System in Substations within PLN UIT JBM Region Based on Android to Improve Maintenance Efficiency” in real time becomes crucial. This research aims to design and implement an Android-based monitoring system supported by Internet of Things (IoT) technology using the Blynk application. The main parameters monitored in the DC system are total DC voltage (positive and negative) within a range of 80–125 VDC and current within a range of 0–100 A, integrated with a microcontroller that transmits data to the Android application via data communication protocols. The data received by the application can be analyzed in real time, providing critical information regarding parameter deviations from operational standards. In addition, the system is equipped with an early warning feature that enables technicians to respond to potential disturbances before they affect substation operations. Based on sampling inspections of the DC system conducted by five personnel at five substations within the PLN UIT JBM region, the results show that using the DC monitoring system is more effective than manual measurements, with a time difference of 10–15 minutes. This demonstrates that the system can improve monitoring efficiency and reduce operational risks in substations. With the application of this technology, disturbances in the DC system can be detected earlier, allowing preventive actions to be carried out quickly and accurately.

Abstract

In this study, we adopt a sociological lens to analyze characterizations in Tenggelamnya Kapal Van Der Wijck. We explore the social and contextual factors influencing these characters, aiming to illuminate the complex network of relationships, power structures, and gender roles within the novel. This analysis seeks to enhance our comprehension of the societal and cultural context of the characters and their alignment with wider social realitiesThe study’s findings reveal a strong correlation between the novel’s characterizations, the socio-cultural and historical context of the Minangkabau people during the period in question. Zainuddin, the novel’s protagonist, grapples with the challenge of preserving his identity as a Minang individual of lower social standing. The characterizations of other figures, such as Hayati and Aziz, play a pivotal role in shaping Zainuddin’s life trajectory.This research enriches the field of literary studies by integrating sociological elements into the analysis of character development in a literary piece. The implications of this study include fostering a more profound comprehension of sociology’s role in shaping characters in literature, and generating novel insights into the historical Minangkabau society.
