Abstract

Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death among teenagers aged 15 years and above, with Indonesian National Police traffic data recording that motorcycles are involved in 72.42% of all cases. Risky behavior such as not wearing SNI-standard helmets is a major cause of fatal head injuries in this age group. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence safe riding compliance among adolescents through a literature review based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). The research method used a literature review by searching for articles in the Google Scholar database published between 2020 and 2025 with the inclusion criteria of open access journals in Indonesian. Based on the analysis of the selected articles, it was found that all TPB components were correlated with safe riding behavior. Attitude was the most frequently studied variable (90%), but it was not always significant because it was influenced by environmental factors. Subjective norms derived from positive pressure from family and peers were proven to increase adolescents' motivation to comply. Meanwhile, perceived behavioral control emerged as the strongest and most consistent determinant (100% significant) because it is directly related to the skills and confidence of riders. Therefore, safety riding programs must be integrated with technical skills training and the creation of a safety culture in the social environment to strengthen intentions.

Abstract

Traffic discipline is the compliance of individuals or groups with applicable rules, orders, and prohibitions independenly without waiting for orders. Teenagers are still in an immature stage of development, easily influenced by emotions, want to look attractive, and often ignore traffic regulations. Unsafe driving is a major factor causing accidents among teenagers. This study aims to conduct a literature analysis on the relationship betweet element of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and safe driving behavior among teenagers. The research method used a literature review of scientific articles from 2017-2025 that focused on teenagers in Indonesia. Thhe research conducted a search and selection of literature using databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed. ProQuest, and Oneseacrh.id that have been published. The results of the study confirm that perceptions, subjective norms, and behavioral control have a significant impact than knowledge factors, but behavioral control is considered the most dominant factor. However, without strong self-efficacy, positive attitudes do not always translate into action. The conclusion of this study is that to foster safe driving behavior, youth safety interventions must focus on providing social support and increasing self-control.

Abstract

Introduction: Driving safety is very important to protect yourself and others from traffic accidents. Data shows that in, approximately 1.19 million people died in accidents. Due to high mobility needs, teenagers often violate regulations because they do not know how to drive. This study reviews the literature on the relationship between driver's license knowledge levels and safe driving behavior among teenagers. This research is a literature review of studies published in the last. Data sources were taken from the Google Scholar, PubMed, ProQuest, and Onesearch.id databases using the keywords compliance factors, traffic behavior, teenagers, and road safety. The inclusion criteria were open access journals in Indonesian and English. Results: Most studies showed a significant relationship between knowledge level and safe driving behavior or satisfaction, according to ten pieces of literature. Although most adolescents have good knowledge (up to 91% in one study), some adolescents are non-compliant. In addition to knowledge, other factors that influence driving behavior are attitudes and perceptions, the role of peers, and possession of a C driver's license.

Abstract

Premarital sexual behavior among adolescents remains a public health concern influenced by social change, technological development, and social environment. This study aims to analyze factors associated with adolescent premarital sexual behavior based on the Health Belief Model (HBM). A systematic literature review was conducted on eight studies published between 2019 and 2025, including journal articles, undergraduate theses, and a doctoral dissertation. The findings were analyzed by categorizing the results into six HBM components: perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, perceived barriers, cues to action, and self-efficacy. The results indicate that perceived susceptibility is the most consistently associated component with adolescent premarital sexual behavior. Perceived severity, perceived barriers, cues to action, and self-efficacy also show significant associations in several studies, whereas perceived benefits demonstrate the weakest and most inconsistent relationship. Overall, adolescent premarital sexual behavior is shaped by the interaction between risk perception, environmental support, and individual confidence in behavioral control. These findings confirm that the Health Belief Model remains a relevant framework for designing adolescent health promotion and preventive interventions.

Abstract

Smoking behavior among adolescents in Indonesia remains a serious public health challenge with increasing prevalence. Adolescence is a vulnerable period where psychological factors and the social environment significantly influence the decision to smoke. This study aims to review the factors influencing smoking behavior among adolescents based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) theoretical framework. This study is a literature review that analyzes various research findings related to the determinants of smoking behavior using HBM components. The analysis shows that all dimensions of HBM play a role in shaping smoking behavior. Self-efficacy and perceived susceptibility were found to be the strongest predictors. Although adolescents have a good perceived severity of the dangers of smoking, they are often hindered by high perceived barriers, such as peer pressure and psychological dependence. Consistent cues to action and perceived benefits are proven to encourage prevention and smoking cessation efforts. Adolescent smoking behavior is strongly influenced by individual beliefs in self-ability and health risks. Health interventions should focus on strengthening self-control and managing social influences to reduce the number of adolescent smokers.

Abstract

Premarital sexual behavior among adolescents is a reproductive health problem influenced by various internal and external factors. The Health Belief Model (HBM) is used as a framework to understand this behavior, but previous research findings still show varying results. This study aims to analyze the contribution of the Health Belief Model components to premarital sexual behavior among adolescents based on the results of local research for the period 2020-2025. The method used was a literature review of relevant journal articles and scientific papers. The results showed that perceived vulnerability, perceived barriers, self-efficacy, and external cues to action such as media exposure and peer influence were variables that were consistently related to the main/dominant predictors of external cues to action, while perceived severity and perceived benefits showed inconsistent relationships. This study confirms that adolescent premarital sexual behavior is influenced by the interaction between cognitive, psychosocial, and environmental factors, thus requiring comprehensive and contextual reproductive health interventions.

Abstract

The use of electronic cigarettes (vapes) among adolescents continues to increase and has emerged as a significant public health concern influenced by the interaction of individual, social, and environmental factors. This study aims to comprehensively riview the factors influencing adolescent e-cigarette use from the perspective of Social Cognitive Theory. A descriptive-narrative literature review was conducted using empirical national and international studies published between 2015 and 2025 and retrieved from Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect databases. The synthesis of the literature indicates that adolescent vaping behavior is influenced by social environmental factors, including peer influence and exposure to social media, as well as personal cognitive factors such as knowledge, risk perception, outcome expectations, and self-efficacy. These factors operate thorugh observational learning and reciprocal interactions between individuals, environment, and behavior. This review concludes that Social Cognitive Theory provides a relevant and comprehensive framework for understanding adolescent vaping behavior and offers a foundations for the development of effective health promotion interventions and preventive policies.

Abstract

Lack of physical activity among adolescents is a significant public health problem in Indonesia and globally, contributing to increased risks of obesity, metabolic disorders, declining quality of life, and other health issues. This condition is influenced by various internal determinants, particularly psychological factors such as perceived barriers, lack of motivation, and low self-efficacy. This study aims to identify the determinants of lack of physical activity among adolescents based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) theory. This research used a literature review design. Data were obtained by collecting, analyzing, and organizing articles and previous studies discussing determinants of physical inactivity among adolescents using HBM. Perceptions directly related to the determinants of physical inactivity identified in this review were perceived barriers, perceived vulnerability, and self-efficacy. Several other HBM components, such as perceived benefits and cues to action, were found to be less consistently associated with physical activity behavior in adolescents. Lack of physical activity and health risks are closely related to internal factors, especially perceptions and self-efficacy. Adolescents who are not aware of the health risks and benefits of exercise tend to ignore physical activity, whereas awareness of risks and strong self-efficacy encourage more active behavior.

Abstract

Drug abuse is a serious global public health problem, with the prevalence in Indonesia reaching 1.73% or about 3.33 million people in 2023, mainly among those aged 15–24 years. Understanding the psychological determinants of this behavior is crucial to enhance prevention and rehabilitation efforts. Objective: To analyze determinants of drug abuse behavior based on the Health Belief Model (HBM) through a literature review of studies published between 2015 and 2025. Methods: A literature review of 8 academic articles from Google Scholar and PubMed, limited to open‑access Indonesian- and English‑language journals examining HBM constructs related to drug abuse and rehabilitation participation. Results: HBM variables were generally associated with drug abuse behavior and rehabilitation adherence, with self‑efficacy emerging as the most consistent determinant, followed by perceived susceptibility and perceived severity. Perceived barriers, especially complex administrative procedures, distance, costs, and stigma, were identified as major obstacles to engaging in rehabilitation. Conclusion: The HBM is useful for mapping determinants of drug abuse behavior and highlights the need to strengthen self‑efficacy, risk perceptions, and barrier reduction within health promotion and community‑based rehabilitation programs.
