Abstract

This research was done to find the effect of scientific approach toward students’ writing achievement at tenth grade of SMA N 8 Kota Jambi Academic Year 2019/2020. The researcher used a quantitative method and quasi-experimental design as the research methodology with simple random sampling. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is any significant effect or not of scientific approach toward students’ writing achievement. The sample of this research was the tenth of science grade students at SMA N 8 Kota Jambi. The instrument of this research was tests. This study involved 56 students of the tenth grade students at SMA N 8 Kota Jambi academic year 2019/2020 as the object of the study and divided into two classes. Students’ writing achievement is effect after treatment using scientific approach learning method which is proven with students writing achievement higher than before treatment. The average pre-test control class 48,6 and post-test control class 78,8. Average pre-test experimental class 53,5 and post-test 90,5.  Using scientific approach in teaching writing descriptive text makes learning activity more effective and students can well understand learning material in treatment process. Thus the alternative hypothesis is accepted, the value of t-test higher than the value of t-table (3,93>2,004). Based on the finding above, it can be concluded that using scientific approach as learning method has significant effect of students writing achievement at tenth grade students of SMA N 8 Kota Jambi.Key Words: Effect, Writing Achievement, Scientific Approach.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out students' achievement in writing analytical exposition text at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 8 Jambi. This research took this title to find out what the student's lack of understanding the writing analytical exposition text and it is needed to know students' achievement in writing analytical exposition text as a learning tool to evaluate the learning process during pandemic covid-19. This research has 19 respondents and the methodology of this research is quantitative research. This study chose to research SMAN 8 Jambi because wanted to know students' achievement in writing analytical exposition text. In this research, there are three indicators of writing analytical exposition text were a thesis, argument, and reiteration. The student has the writing test based on the topic by This research and writes it with three indicators of analytical exposition text. From the result, This research found that there were 7 or 36,8% of the students who got a very good and good score. It means that there were students who got a standardized score from their test. 2 or 10,6% is for the students who got a fair score. And the last, 3 or 15,8% for the students who got the poor score. It means that there were students who suggest retaking or considered failing the test.

Abstract

This research design uses quantitative research methods with data collection techniques through tests. Where the population in this study was 293 students with samples taken were students of class X Hospitality 3 with a random sampling technique consisting of 26 students. This research consists of problems, research objectives, research methods, research findings and conclusions. The background of this research doing this research was the writing of students' descriptive texts using picture media. The components analyzed in this study were organization, grammar, vocabulary. In collecting data, this research used a written test instrument. This research analyzed students' writing based on five categories, namely: very good, good, average, fair, poor. The results of this study concluded that 26 students of class X  3 at vocation high school 4 Jambi City at the level of writing descriptive texts got an average score of 31.40 from the results of the tests carried out and according to Harris (1969) the average value was included in the fair category. Meanwhile, the average score for each aspect obtained by students, namely, in the organizational aspect was 2.3, this was included in the fair category, and the grammatical aspect was 1.73 which was included in the poor category and the vocabulary aspect was 1.42 including the poor category.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to find out the difficulties of students seventh semester has difficult in teaching while following the practical field of experience program during Pandemic Covid-19. The research methodology of this study was a qualitative research design, and a phenomenology approach with technic data collection using purposive sampling. The total of respondent that allowed of this research is six students. The respondent are students at seventh semester in English education department that had been done the practical field of experience program during Pandemic Covid-19. The result of the research that a half of students seventh semester got difficulties in ability and stress when teaching in class. The student difficulties in teaching are teaching model, teaching material, time in teaching and stress in teaching means psychology students feel when did the practical field of experience. There were 4 of 6 students at seventh semester considered that time in teaching while did PPL program was very short and ineffective for explaining the material in class. Then, there were 3 of 6 students at seventh semester had felt afraid, shock, nervous or consume when taught at first time. The cause of the students’ difficulties in teaching while doing PPL program during Pandemic Covid-19 are the lack of students at seventh in discipline students at school while learning process, they depended used application that expensive in cost internet data, they felt disappointed cause not gave the best performance in English learning process in class that they had studied while in university.Keywords: The Field of Experience Program, Students Difficulties in Teaching.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the students' skill in writing recount text at Senior High School 8 Jambi City. This research was conducted at Senior High School 8 Jambi City. The research design used quantitative. The approved in this research is descriptive quantitative. The population of this research was students of class XI at Senior High School 8 Jambi City. The sample of this research was 36 students of class XI IPA 1 selected using simple random sampling. This research used a written test instrument, a written test in the form of an essay test to make a recount text about best experience in holiday. The technique of data collection of this research used test as a research instrument. The technique of data analysis of this research are tabulating the students’ score, calculating the students’ score, and give the score classification. This finding shows that students’ skill in writing recount text are based on generic structure in writing recount text. First, the orientation with an average of 8,94 or including excellent criteria, second, the events with an average of 9,17 or including excellent criteria, and lastly, the reorientation with an average of 7,28 or including good criteria. From the results of the data, 2 generic structure are classified as excellent and 1 generic structure that classified as good. This proves that at the level of students’ skill in writing recount text academically, they are still classified as excellent.

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out whether there was any significant effect of prediction strategy toward students’ reading comprehension for the tenth grade students at SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi. The research methodology of this study was true-experimental research which involved experimental class and control class. The total population of this research was the tenth grade students of SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi, which consisted of 225 students. The researcher used 2 classes as the sample of this study. These 2 classes were divided into experimental and control class. There were 28 students at experimental class (X Science 1) and 29 students at control class (X Science 2). In collecting the data, the researcher gave pre-test, treatment, and post-test to both classes. The formula used to analyze the data was t-test. The researcher found that the pre-test mean of experimental class was 60,35 and post-test was 83,57. Meanwhile, the pre-test mean of control class was 55,51 and post-test was 68,96. Furthermore, the researcher discovered that tobservation was 11,63, whereas the ttable was 2,004 for a = 0,025. This data showed that tobservation was higher than the ttable (11,63>2,004), so, was accepted and was rejected. As a result, there was any significant effect of prediction strategy toward students’ reading comprehension for the tenth grade students at SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi.Key Words: Prediction Strategy, Reading, Students’ Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

This study investigated the students’ perceptions in online learning toward reading comprehension at tenth grade of SMA Negeri 1 Kota Jambi. A quantitative research design was used in this study. The participants are 36 students from tenth grade MIPA 4 of SMA Negeri 1 Kota Jambi. The instruments used to collect the data were questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of 30 statements. Google Form was used to obtain the data and the result was used to analyze the data. As a result of the study, the researcher concluded that the benefits of online reading have had a substantial effect on the knowledge of students’ vocabulary, and the students have strongly focused on the educational evaluation they read during online learning. The data reported the highest percentage is 56% of the students strongly agreed that online media supported their activity in reading during online learning. However, the lowest percentage is 5% of the students disagreed that online media supported their activity in reading during online learning. The results show that the mean and standard deviation between students’ perceptions in online learning toward reading comprehension are 77.00 mean and 16,696 standard deviation, which is the standard deviation is higher than the mean. It shows that students' perceptions are considered positive because most of the students agree that online learning helped them to improve their reading comprehensions skills.Keywords: Students’ Perception, Online Learning, Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the difficulties on online learning in speaking skill.  The researcher used a descriptive qualitative design by taking the sample used simple random sampling and then obtained XII Science 5 with the total number of 36 students, unfortunately three students did not fill the online questionnaires. Thus, there were 33 students as a sample. In collecting the data, the researcher used an online questionnaire. The result of this study showed the students’ difficulties on online learning in speaking skill were: Pronouncing problems 66.6%, students having difficulty interacting with others 63.6%, limited vocabulary 57.5%, lack of grammar 54.5%, poor internet connection 48,4%, students have not enough understanding to explore and express their ideas 33.3%, furthermore the students lack of fluency 21.2%.Keywords: Online learning, Online questionnaires, Speaking difficulties.

Abstract

Reki Anggara; Wennyta; Khidayatul MunawwarohAbstractThis research aims to find out the kind of students errors in writing narrative text in the fourth semester students at English Education Program of Batanghari University year 2017/2018. This research using purposive sampling to get the sample from two class and then got the 4th semester A class with the total 25 students. In collecting the data, the instrument of this research is writing test by using narrative text with theme exeperience during holidays. The findings of this research showed that, the error analysis writing narrative text in language features and generic structure. In language features, the most of errors were past tense with 4,35% percentage of error from 25 students. In generic structure, the most of errors was spelling with 6,74% percentage of errors from 25 students and orientation no errors from 25 students. The researcher concluded that the error analysis on students’ writing narrative text made by fourth semester students A class at english education program of Batanghari University year 2018 is good because from 25 student only two dominant errors in narrative text are past tense and spelling.Keywords: Error Analysis, Writing, and Narrative Text

Abstract

This study focuses on the difficulties faced by the second semester students of Batanghari University in reading comprehension. The purposes of the study were to find out the difficulties faced by the second semester students Batanghari University and to find out the factors of difficulties in reading comprehension. The method applied was descriptive quantitative, where the test and questionnaire were used as the instrument data collection methods. The test consisted of 15 question items divided into three kinds of test and 20 questionnaires, which were descriptive text, narrative text and recount text. Index difficulty and percentage were used to analyze the data. The result of the test showed that the majority of the second semester of Batanghari University found difficulties including answering main idea, making inference, and locating reference questions. The most difficult aspect that encountered by the second semester students of Batanghari University was finding main idea questions, because the located main idea was difficult to find. In addition, based on the students’ responses in questionnaire, they mostly got difficulties in understanding vocabulary, background of knowledge, the difficulty in understanding long sentences, lack of working memory, less motivation/attention to learning reading, lack of knowledge of strategies in reading comprehension.Keyword: Students Difficulties, Reading Comprehension.
