Abstract

This research is an experimental research which aims to find out whether there is an effect of the PhET Assisted Discovery Learning Model on the achievement of Class VIII Students on Straight Line Equations Material at SMP Negeri 36 Kerinci. The hypothesis in this study is that there is an influence of the PhET Assisted Discovery Learning Model on the Achievements of Class VIII Students on Straight Line Equations Material at SMP Negeri 36 Kerinci. This type of research is experimental research by providing different treatment to the experimental class and control class in mathematics learning. The population in this study was class VIII SMP Negeri 36 Kerinci for the 2022/2023 academic year, which consisted of 70 people. Then the experimental class and control class were determined randomly, which assigned class VIII B as the experimental class and class VIII C as the control class. The instrument used in this research is an objective test in the form of multiple choice. Before the test was given, it was first tried out in class VIII A of SMP Negeri 7 Kerinci for the 2022/2023 academic year. The hypothesis test used in this study was the t-test, but previously the normality test and variance homogeneity test were carried out. From the results of the t-test, the value of tcount = 2.66 and ttable = 1.678. This means that tcount > ttable so that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected. From this calculation, it can be concluded that there is an influence of the PhET Assisted Discovery Learning Model on the Achievements of Class VIII Students on Straight Line Equations Material at SMP Negeri 36 Kerinci at the 95% confidence level.

Abstract

Language skills, such as studying short stories, are still perceived as difficult skills, because students do not know how to interpret the meaning of stories that occur in a short story. The purpose of this study is to contribute ideas/opinions in order to improve the ability to study the structure and language of short stories for students of class IX B State Junior High School 2 Tabanan in the 2021/2022 academic year. This research is a classroom action research which consists of two cycles with 38 students. Data collection methods used, namely the method of observation, test method and method of recording documents. Observation method was used to obtain data about students' attitudes and behavior. The test method is used to determine the students' ability in studying the structure and language of short stories. The data analysis method used is descriptive method. The results show that the ability to study the structure and language of short stories for class IX B students at State Junior High School 2 Tabanan in the 2021/2022 academic year by applying the discovery learning has increased. This is evident from the score in the pre-cycle class average of 61.84, then in the first cycle increased to 70.52, and in the second cycle increased to 81.57. The increase from pre-cycle to cycle I was 14.64%. The increase from cycle I to cycle II was 16.19. The average increase in cycle II reflects the students' understanding of the structure and language of short stories getting better. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that by applying the discovery learning students' abilities have increased. Thus, it is recommended for Indonesian language teachers to apply the discovery learning when learning about studying the structure and language of short stories because it has been proven that the application of the discovery learning can improve students' abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the English writing skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Tabanan through the use of Canva in creating descriptive posters. Writing is a crucial skill in language learning, as it allows learners to express ideas and thoughts in written form. However, many students face difficulties in writing, especially in constructing descriptive texts. Common errors found include grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. This research employs a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method conducted in several cycles involving planning, action, observation, and reflection. Canva, a graphic design platform, is integrated as a learning medium to assist students in developing descriptive texts into visually engaging posters. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests as well as student questionnaires to assess their responses toward the use of Canva. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ writing skills, with the average score increasing from 65 in the pre-test to 78 in the post-test. Furthermore, students reported higher motivation and enthusiasm in the learning process. The use of Canva allowed students to be more creative, expand their vocabulary, and pay closer attention to language mechanics while writing. Therefore, Canva can serve as an effective tool to enhance English writing instruction in junior high schools.

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of register variation in translation pedagogy, emphasizing the relevance of multimodal awareness and context-based teaching approaches. Register, which is defined through the components of field, tenor, and mode, plays a crucial role in shaping meaning and guiding translators’ decisions across different genres and text types. The growing diversity of contemporary texts, ranging from academic articles to informal digital content, requires translation students to adapt their linguistic and stylistic strategies according to communicative purpose and audience expectations. This study employs a qualitative literature review to examine recent developments in translation theory and instructional practice, highlighting the need for a more adaptive and responsive teaching framework. It proposes a pedagogical model that includes genre-sensitive translation tasks, multimodal translation projects, comparative analysis of texts with different registers, and reflective commentary as instructional tools to enhance translation competence. These strategies help students develop not only linguistic accuracy but also critical awareness of cultural context, appropriate tone, and functional meaning. The findings support the conclusion that effective translation instruction must extend beyond literal meaning, encouraging learners to approach texts with both contextual sensitivity and practical awareness. This research contributes to the development of a register-focused and practice-oriented model for translator education.
