Abstract

This study aims to determine the validity and level of readability of the Basic Concepts Science module with SETS vision (Science, Environment, Technology, Society) based on Science Literacy. Testing the validity of the module in this R D (Research and Development) uses content validity and construct validity tests, while testing the readability level of the module using the crossing test technique. The results of the study show the level of validity of the modules developed is included in the category of very high validity so that the module can be used. Meanwhile, the results of the module readability level test show that the Basic Concepts Science Module Based on Science Literacy SETS developed in the category is quite easy to understand and ideal for use in learning.

Abstract

This research aims to compare the influence of guided inquiry and free inquiry models on scientific literacy abilities. The method used in this research is counterbalanced with a one group pretest-posttest design. The population in this study were students in class The sampling technique is purposive sampling. Data collection techniques are tests (pretest-posttest) and non-tests. The data analysis used was the paired sample t-test, Cohen's d effect size test with the help of IBM SPSS V.25 software. The research results show that the paired sample t-test states that Ha is accepted, meaning there is a difference in scientific literacy abilities with the guided inquiry and free inquiry models with sig, 0.000. The Cohen's d test in the guided inquiry model treatment class obtained a value of 1.09, this score was higher compared to students who used the free inquiry model with a Cohen's d value of 0.12. The results of data analysis show that the Guided Inquiry model has more influence on students' scientific literacy abilities compared to the Free Inquiry model.

Abstract

Learning assessment is one of the assessments carried out to obtain information related to the results of student competency achievement in each learning material. This study aims to determine the implementation of digital science learning assessments carried out in a school located in the province of Satun-South Thailand, as well as the obstacles and solutions encountered. The design of this study uses a descriptive analysis method with a qualitative approach. The subjects in this study were 5 students and 1 science teacher in a school located in the province of Satun-South Thailand. Instruments used in research are observation, interviews and documentation. Meanwhile, data analysis is done by reducing data, presenting, and drawing conclusions. This research shows that teachers have carried out digital assessments in science learning by utilizing existing technology, although there are still some obstacles encountered in its implementation. Researchers recommend that science teachers be able to understand the characteristics of each student, and must be able to provide guidance and teaching related to ways of understanding and analyzing various existing questions.

Abstract

This research aims to validate and implement an instrument to measure the scientific literacy of high school science program students, including the abilities of Scientific Reasoning, Scientific Inquiry, and Nature of Science (NOS), called the Lisa3D Test. These three instruments were validated using the Rasch model approach and presented as a digital application. This research method was a descriptive survey with a quantitative approach. The research started from the test design, validation, and implementation stages. The types of validity used included content, psychometric, construct, and external validity. For construct validity, the instrument was tested on 197 high school students, while the implementation stage involved 407 students. The research results show that the Lisa3D Test has fulfilled all aspects of validity. The Lisa3D test has been successfully implemented via the page www.lisatest.id  with a cut of 56% for the Scientific Reasoning test, 50% for the Scientific Inquiry test, and 56.25% for the NOS test. This research produces a standard instrument to measure the scientific literacy of high school science program students based on three dimensions, namely Scientific Reasoning, Scientific Inquiry, and Nature of Science (NOS). The Lisa3D test can be implemented on a broader scale and can be an additional criterion for graduating high school students so that all graduates can master science comprehensively.

Abstract

Science learning assessment has always been challenging for science middle school teachers, especially when assessing students' scientific inquiry skills, which are essential to the science learning process. The study aims to highlight the challenges teachers confront when assessing high school pupils' capacity for scientific inquiry. It is a qualitative phenomenological study using thematic analysis techniques. Five middle school science teachers from junior high schools in Central Java participated in this study. Utilizing interviewing approaches, data was gathered. Using Clark Braun's thematic analysis methodologies, data analysis is carried out in four steps: (1) identifying the data, (2) performing coding, (3) creating themes, and (4) reviewing and defining the themes. This study shows that both internal and external factors might affect teachers' ability to undertake scientific inquiry research. The issue of obstacles teachers confront from the perspectives of students and learning systems is summarized by external variables. The researchers advised science teachers to engage in active, ongoing competence development to help them overcome challenges in evaluating scientific inquiries.

Abstract

Abstract

Implementing scientific inquiry as a learning approach has accounted for most discussion topics and research areas in science education. Numerous studies have been conducted for decades; therefore, synthesizing the updated results will be worthwhile. Diverse needs require effective implementation of the vision of scientific inquiry for scientists, and various forms of learning output pose a challenge for scholars to provide a systematic summary of evidence regarding its role in science teaching and learning. Therefore, the random effect model was suitable for this paper to capture the impact of scientific inquiry on science learning comprehensively. A meta-analysis study using a random-effects model was chosen to systematically synthesize 22 academic articles gathered from the Scopus and Web of Science indexing databases. An individual paper was first extracted for its sample size, mean, and corresponding standard deviation, which were then calculated to measure the effect size of each piece of evidence using the JASP program. In summary, we highlight the positive and moderate impact of scientific investigation on student learning outcomes as a promising approach to enhancing science learning. This study fills the gap in the previous literature by providing a cross-cultural systematic synthesis of Indonesian and non-Indonesian literature, as well as comprehensively measuring the effects of scientific inquiry interventions. These findings support scientific inquiry as a promising approach to learning and encourage the sustainability of efforts to enhance the quality of science learning in various educational contexts.
