Abstract

Background: Childhood obesity has become a major concern in recent years. The increasing childhood obesity prevalence may occur as the result of food consumption with high content of calories, fat, cholesterol and the lack of physical activity. Obesity in children will also affect their pubertal development. Puberty is a period in which maturation of the reproductive function is achieved. In girls, the initial sign of puberty is thelarche, defined as the appearance of breast bud underneath the areola. The onset of puberty depends on many factors, one of them is nutritional status especially obesity. This study was conducted to compare the age of thelarche between obese and normal girls. Methods: An analytical study using cross sectional method was conducted. This study was held in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia, during the period of SeptemberOctober 2013. Data were obtained from 3 elementary schools, selected by multistage random sampling. The total subject was 46. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney and chi-square test. Results: Thelarche occurred at age 9 years 4 months in the obese group compared to 11 years 2 months in the normal group. The analysis using Mann-Whitney test showed the difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). Based on age group, 42% obese girls attained thelarche between ages 89 years, while 63% girls in the normal group attained thelarche between ages 1112 years. The analysis using chi- square test showed that the difference was statistically significant (p<0.001).Conclusions: Thelarche occurs earlier in obese girls compared to normal girls. Abstract

This study aims to learn about the performance and the co-modification of children in Idola Cilik singing contest program on RCTI through text analysis, to determine the background of its production and capitalism whichchanges the value of effectiveness into exchange rate on RCTI’s “Idola Cilik” program through social cognition analysis, and to find out the interpretation of the Chairman of the National Commission on Child Protection and communication experts on “Idola Cilikl” singing contest program through social context. This study uses qualitative research methods through Van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis, which includes analysis of the level of text, social cognition and social context. The results showed (1) Based on the analysis of the text, the performance and the co modification of children in the “Idola Cilik” is actually a result of television media industry as a business institution (RCTI). This has become a commodity, to be bought and sold, and controlled by market mechanisms, through a program rating, which ultimately is profit-oriented. (2) Based on the analysis of social cognition, RCTI’s “Idola Cilik” programwas created due to the lack of special programs for children. “Idola Cilik” is a popular culture with instant characteristics and is market oriented. The practice of capitalism is seen in the television industry althoughRCTI as a capitalist is trying to show that exploitation does not happen, by creating a number of provisions, for the sake of achieving their interests, making it look as if it is not they who did the co modification of children. (3) Based on the social context, Idola Cilikl” has generated positive interpretation, the program can become a means of developing talent and increasing the potential of the children according to children characteristics. There is also a negative interpretation that the program is a form of co modification of children, which leads toexploitation and making it potentially violates the rights of children

Questionnaires were distributed to 57 employees as respondents. The analysis data used the method of multiple linear regression coefficient analysis. Regression analysis is used to determine the influence of performance management system (PMS) to employees’ performance. Data are processed using SPSS 18.00.The data showed that the calculation of regression coefficients was Y = 0,285X1 + 0,285X2 + 0,371X3.  It means that result of regression gives positive influence on employees’ performance.  The coefficient of determination is 0.289.  It means that the employees’ performance of 28,9% is influenced by performance management system (PMS).  While the rest of 71,1% is influenced by other factors.  The value of variable regression coefficient indicates a positive effect, Performance Management System (PMS) has significant influence to employees’ performance. The recommendation in this study are Perum Perhutani should improve evaluation performance, especially; supervisors identify problems and provide solutions.  Implementation performance, especially; employees strive to achieve planned performance targets.  Planning performance, especially; superiors and subordinates set performance targets that are relevant as well as employees know clearly how performance is measured.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is implementation PhET Interactive Simulations Media with a Guided Inquiry Approach to Improve Students' Critical Thinking Skills" based on the description provided above. Physics Educational Technology (PhET) simulations is the virtual laboratory makes use of practical simulation principles to carry out engaging learning. By using an inquiry-based learning approach, students are trained to formulate problems, generate hypotheses, conduct experiments, gather data, analyze data, write and describe theories, and honestly follow rules so that the actions of the offenders mirror those of scientists. This study method is quasi-experimental, because it uses a guided inquiry learning strategy to assess how critical thinking abilities are improved when learning the pH of acid and base solutions. The study's conclusion is combining PhET Interactive Simulations media with a guided inquiry approach, the average learning outcomes are higher than when using a conventional learning.
