Abstract

The cortex of tandui has the potential to be a folk remedy. As an ingredient in traditional medicine, it is necessary to characterize the cortex of tandui as a first step in knowing the quality of the quality of the extract in accordance with the established extract monograph, namely with nonspecific parameters. This study aims to determine the results of the characterization value of nonspecific parameters of ethanol extract of cortex tandui (Mangifera rufocostata Kosterm.). In this study, the extraction of the cortex tandui used the maceration method with a 70% ethanol solvent with a yield gain of 21.1%. The determination of nonspecific parameters includes type weight, moisture content, ash content, acid insoluble ash content, heavy metal contamination, yeast mold contamination and microbial contamination. Ethanol extract of the cortex tandui (Mangifera rufocostata Kosterm.) has successive nonspecific parameter characterization values, namely, type weight of 1.11 grams, moisture content of 42.73%, ash content of 2.28%, acid insoluble ash content of 0.035%, lead metal contamination (Pb) <0.001 mg/kg, cadmium metal contamination (Cd) < 0.001 mg/kg, yeast mold contamination 1,2 × colonies/g and microbial contamination < 1,0 × colonies/g. From the above results, it can be implied that the determination of nonspecific parameters of the ethanol extract of the cortex tandui (Mangifera rufocostata Kosterm.) meets the requirements set except for the parameters of moisture content that exceeds the requirements.

Abstract

Free radicals are highly reactive compounds because they have unpaired electrons so that they can interact with body cell molecules, this can cause various diseases. Antioxidants are compounds that can ward off free radicals. Plants of the genus Mangifera are known to have antioxidant activity, one of which is Mangifera rufocostata Kosterm, a typical plant of South Kalimantan known as tandui. The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity of the methanol extract of the leaves of tandui (Mangifera rufocostata Kosterm.) using the DPPH test method. Phytochemical screening and antioxidant activity tests were performed using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The compounds contained in the methanol extract of tandui leaves (Mangifera rufocostata Kosterm.) are phenols, flavonoids, and tannins. The IC50 value of quercetin obtained was 2.39 ppm and the IC50 value of the tandui leaf methanol extract (Mangifera rufocostata Kosterm.) which was obtained was 8.222 ppm. Tandui leaf methanol extract has very strong antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Tigaron leaf methanol extract (Crateva religiosa) was reported to have activity as a very strong antioxidant. Differences in solvents in extracts can affect the results of pharmacological activity, for example, ethyl acetate solvent on antioxidant activity, so the purpose of this study was to determine the results of phytochemical screening and antioxidant activity of the ethyl acetate extract of Tigaron leaves (Crateva religiosa). Phytochemical screening was carried out qualitatively, while antioxidant activity was carried out quantitatively using the DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and quercetin comparator. The ethyl acetate extract of Tigaron leaves (Crateva religiosa) was extracted by maceration method. Phytochemical screening tests obtained positive results for the alkaloids, flavonoids, and steroids. Antioxidant testing using the comparator quercetin obtained IC50 results of 3.4384 ppm and the ethyl acetate extract of Tigaron (Crateva religiosa) leaves obtained IC50 results of 114.0457 ppm. It can be concluded that the ethyl acetate extract of Tigaron leaves (Crateva religiosa) has moderate potential as an antioxidant.

Abstract

Brazilian Spinach (Althernanthera sisso) leaves are known to have a high natural antioxidant activity content of 3.7 ppm. Antioxidants have an important role in the human body to prevent damage caused by free radicals. One of the compounds that have antioxidant activity is flavonoids. Based on this description, it is necessary to know the content of total flavonoids in A. sisso This study aims to determine qualitatively using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), while quantitatively using UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent was used to extract Brazilian spinach leaves. Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) followed by spray reagents was used to test the flavonoid compounds. Quercetin reagent was used to determine total flavonoid levels, while AlCl3 was used to determine total flavonoid levels. The results of this qualitative test showed the presence of flavonoids, and in the quantitative test using UV-Vis spectrophotometry the total levels of flavonoids were 70.890 ± 1.723% w/w quercetin equivalent. The 70% ethanol extract of A. sisso leaves contains flavonoids so that it has the potential to be developed as a medicinal plant
