Abstract

Malignant disease or cancer is a disease caused abnormal growth of certain cells, characterized continuous, unlimited growth, uncoordinated with surrounding tissue and not functioning physiologically. According to the National Cancer Institute, there was a significant increase in the number of pediatric cancers in United States from 13.8 per 100,000 children in 1973 to 17.6 per 100,000 children in 2005. Chemotherapy shows high efficacy in the treatment of cancer in children, especially on cancer that can not be treated by surgery or radiation alone. Radiation therapy can be used as a curative therapy to reduce tumor size or as palliative to alleviate symptoms. However, the administration of chemotherapy and radiotherapy associated with many side effects. Mucositis is a reactive process that resembles inflammation on the oropharynx mucous membranes, and often accour as the side effect of chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Management of oral mucositis in children who receive chemoradiation varies, both pharmacologically and nonpharmacologically. At present, there is no gold standard for management of oral mucositis in children.

Abstract

Group Teaching Activities Help Promote Active Learning Classroom teaching and learning activities can aid teaching, but the ability to teach through small group collaborative activities primarily facilitates active, active teaching activities. This study aims to determine the difference between students' English learning outcomes using the Expository method and students' English learning outcomes using the Think Pair Share (TPS) collaboration model. Samples were taken as many as 50 students from 2 groups, namely the experimental group and the control group. The research method used by the author is experimental. The sample collection technique used is a simple random sample collection technique. Hopefully the purpose of this research can be useful for students, teachers, schools, and especially researchers. The data analysis technique used is at a significant level = 0.05 tcount = 2.893 and ttable = 2.0252 It can be concluded that the number of students who apply "Think Pair Share" (TPS) is more than the number of students who learn through Exposure Learning.

Abstract

Picture Series is one of the media images that can be used to support and help vocabulary learning. Vocabulary is very important for everyone to learn especially a students, because if someone has mastery of vocabulary in English then when he/she uses English, he/she will have no difficulties. The aims of this study was to find out whether picture series had a good impact on improving and developing students' mastery of vocabulary or not. In this study, researchers used a quantitative experimental method. Based on the results of the research conducted by the researcher, it was found that picture series had a significant impact on students' mastery of vocabulary.

Abstract

Abstract:  The pandemic caused by the outbreak of Covid-19 has prompted many changes in various sectors and lines of people's lives. The changes that appear to suggest are the application of digital technology among the wider community such as bold learning in schools. This is marked by the increasingly intensive use of digital form plates to support online learning in accordance with health protocols and the new order or what we call the New Normal. The learning form plate is included in the learning media which is very useful for schools and universities. One of the platforms that have been used is Sevima Edlink. Where Sevima Edlink is changing the way we do online learning including being creative, video conferencing or completing assignments and quizzes. This service aims to help implement better and easier learning by relying on collaboration between teachers and students. The service method used is data collection through observation and interviews, implementation of socialization and monitoring and evaluation. The results of the community service activities carried out showed that the teachers at SMP Negeri 11 Pematangsiantar were very enthusiastic about knowing, learning, and using the Edlink platform in learning.Abstrak: Pandemi yang disebabkan oleh mewabahnya Covid-19 telah mendorong banyak perubahan di berbagai sektor dan lini kehidupan masyarakat. Perubahan yang terlihat mengemukakan adalah meningkatnya adopsi teknologi digital di kalangan masyarakat luas seperti pembelajaran daring di sekolah. Hal ini ditandai dengan makin intensifnya penggunaan plat form-plat form digital untuk mendukung pembelajaran online yang sesuai dengan protokol kesehatan dan tatanan baru atau yang sering kita sebut New Normal. Plat Form pembelajaran termasuk didalam media pembelajaran yang sangat banyak manfaatnya bagi sekolah maupun perguruan tinggi. Salah satu plat form yang sudah digunakan adalah Sevima Edlink. Dimana Sevima Edlink mengubah cara kita untuk melakukan pembelajaran online termasuk berdiskusi, video conference atau menyelesaikan tugas dan quis. Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang lebih baik dan mudah dengan mengandalkan kolaborasi antara guru dan siswa. Metode pengabdian yang digunakan pengumpulan data melalui observasi dan wawancara, pelaksanaan sosialisasi dan melakukan monitoring dan evaluasi. Hasil kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa guru di SMP Negeri 11 Pematangsiantar sangat antusias untuk mengetahui, mempelajari, serta menggunakan plat form Edlink di dalam pembelajaran.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan Aplikasi Duolingo terhadap penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris siswa kelas VIII SMP Swasta Teladan Pematangsiantar. Penelitian terdiri dari kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif. Dengan demikian, peneliti mengumpulkan data empiris. Peneliti menerapkan penelitian eksperimen yang menggunakan dua kelompok sampel, kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMP Swasta Teladan Pematangsiantar Jl. Singosari No. 3 Pematangsiantar, Kecamatan Siantar Barat. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada semester gasal tahun ajaran 2022/2023. Peneliti menggunakan total sampling karena populasi diambil sebagai sampel penelitian ini karena siswa dibagi menjadi 2 kelas. Untuk mengumpulkan data penelitian ini menggunakan pre-test dan post-test. Pre-test diberikan kepada kelas eksperimen dan kontrol sebelum menerima perlakuan untuk mengetahui pengetahuan awal siswa tentang kosa kata. Berdasarkan temuan, pengajaran kosa kata dengan menggunakan Duolingo layak untuk diterapkan di kelas. Hal ini terlihat dari nilai rata-rata posttest siswa kelas eksperimen sebesar 75,6 lebih tinggi dari kelas kontrol sebesar 63,3. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian, nilai t-tabel pada taraf signifikansi (5%) lebih kecil dari nilai t-test (3,55). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima. Setelah penjelasan perhitungan sebelumnya, diketahui bahwa nilai t-test lebih tinggi dari nilai t-tabel, yang berarti 3,55 lebih tinggi dari 1,67. Akhirnya, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa penggunaan Duolingo efektif melalui penguasaan kosa kata siswa, khususnya untuk siswa kelas delapan di SMP Swasta Teladan Pematangsiantar.

Abstract

The objective this research to find out using guided note-taking technique has significantly effect for students’ in reading comprehension on grade eleven of SMA Negeri 4 Pematang Siantar. The research design is quantative data with quasi experimental. This research have 2 sample for give test main idea and relevant idea such as XI PMIA 2 as experimental group have 36 students and XI PIS 1 as control group have 36 students. The test use is multiple choice with 25 questions contain narrative text. This research means to find whether using Guided Note taking bring students increase reading comprehension and researcher find out results both of Pre-Test and Post-test experimental and control group. Based data, result mean pre-test and post-test experimental group are 64,77 and 81,77. But, in control group result mean pre-test and post-test are 57,33 and 64, it’s mean there is increase use this technique. So on the result mean variable and standar deviation of pre-test and post-test experimental and control class, sum of total pre-test and post-test in the experimental are 17,58 and 511,9 and sum of total mean variable and standar deviation in control group are 10,33 and 177,2 with result t-test 8,63 is higher than t-table at 5% of level significance ( 166,7), it means Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. The conclusion all of this research is there significant in reading comprehension use Guided Note Taking of grade eleven SMA N 4 Pematang Siantar.

Abstract

The objectives of the research is to find out the effect of think pair share teaching model to the reading comprehension of grade eleven students of SMK Swasta GKPS 2 Pematang Siantar on a factual report text. This research employed a quantitative method with a quasi experimental design method. The data was collected by using multiple choice. In the experimental class the treatment used was think pair share teaching model, while the control class used question answer technique. The instrument used to collect data was taken from the result of the students’ pre-test and post-test scores which were then calculated. The results of the students’ scores on the post-test showed that the use of think pair share was very effective in reading comprehension on a factual report text of grade eleven students. T-test calculation shows that the t-test value is higher than the t-table value. The null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. And alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. So, it can be concluded that the think pair share teaching model is very significant in developing students’ reading comprehension especially on factual report text.

Abstract

The objectives of this research was find out whether the using scramble game to develop English vocabulary of grade seven students at SMP Negeri 1 Pematangsiantar. This research used quantitative research with a quasi-experimental research design. The population of this study was the VII grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Pematangsiantar with a total of 352 students. The sample of this study was divided into two classes, class VII-7 as the control class consisting of 32 students who used the conventional media and class VII-8 as the experimental class consisting of 32 students who used scramble game. Data collection instruments used multiple choice for pre-test and post-test. The data analysis technique used in this research is SPSS version 21, by conducting normality test, homogeneity test and hypothesis test. In the post-test results for the experimental class, the average was 79.68, while in the control class the average was 74.53. Based on the hypothesis test using an independent test, it shows a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.016 < 0.05, then Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of scramble game can improve the English vocabulary of grade seven students at SMP Negeri 1 Pematangsiantar.

Abstract

Bahasa Inggris sangat berperan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari dimana bahasa Inggris berperan dalam berbagai bidang seperti dalam bidang pendidikan, bidang bisnis, bidang pariwisata, bidang kesehatan. Pengetahuan bahasa Inggris harus ditingkatkan kepada siswa karena banyak ilmu pengetahuan yang menggunakan bahasa Inggris, sebagaimana bahasa Inggris sudah menjadi bahasa internasional. Selain pengetahuan tentang arti dari bahasa Inggris itu sendiri siswa juga diharapkan mampu untuk menulis dan mengucapkan kata-kata dalam bahasa Inggris sesuai dalam pelafalan bahasa Inggris itu sendiri. Hal inilah terkadang yang membuat siswa malas belajar bahasa Inggris. Sedangkan dalam dunia bisnis, bahasa Inggris merupakan alat untuk berkomunikasi untuk menjalin hubungan perdagangan antar negara. Sosialisasi ini menggunakan jenis penelitian studi kasus dengan teknik pengumpulan data secara kelompok yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui kendala-kendala yang dihadapi saat belajar bahasa Inggris dan mengetahui cara mengatasi kendala-kendala tersebut.

Abstract

Sosialisasi pemanfaatan media sosial sebagai alat untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berBahasa Inggris siswa merupakan salah satu cara ataupun upaya belajar siswa yang dapat dilakukan dimana saja, baik di rumah maupun di tempat umum guna untuk meningkatkan kemampuan dalam berBahasa Inggris siswa. Tujuan dari sosialisasi ini adalah untuk menambah dan meningkatkan kemampuan Bahasa Inggris siswa melalui penggunaan media sosial. Kegiatan sosialisasi ini dilakukan pada tanggal 23 Mei 2023 di Sekolah SMP Negeri 2 Siantar Kelas VII dengan jumlah 29 siswa. Dalam sosialisasi ini menggunakan metode ceramah, diskusi dan games (permainan). Materi sosialisasi mencakup kemampuan dasar dalam berBahasa Inggris yang meliputi kemampuan mendengarkan, berbicara, membaca dan menulis yang sangat bermanfaat bagi siswa guna untuk menunjang kemampuan berkomunikasi baik secara lisan maupun secara tulisan. Penggunaan media sosial dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berBahasa Inggris dan tentunya akan membantu guru dalam proses belajar mengajar di sekolah, mendukung penggunaan internet sebagai alat pengajaran di kelas. Penggunaan media sosial dapat memotivasi siswa untuk menjadi lebih terlibat dalam studi mereka, yang akan meningkatkan prestasi akademik mereka
