Abstract

Lesson study training helps teachers improve their professional competencies, including pedagogical and social skills. Through collaboration and reflection, teachers can learn from each other's experiences, which in turn improves their teaching skills. This community service method uses a training and mentoring approach. This service aims to socialize and develop teachers' skills in designing effective learning through lesson study. The conclusions of the service conducted by the team at SD Negeri 11 Siparmahan are as follows: This socialization succeeded in increasing teachers' understanding of the importance of lesson study as a tool to improve teaching practices. Teachers are now more aware that collaboration and reflection are the keys to achieving quality learning; Through collaborative lesson planning and implementation activities, teachers have developed skills in designing better lesson plans that meet students' needs; This activity has also created a collaborative culture among teachers where they support each other and share experiences. This is important for building a sustainable learning community in the school environment; The reflection process after the implementation of the lesson study allows teachers to evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching strategies used and to find solutions for future improvements; The improved ability of teachers to design effective lessons is expected to have a positive impact on student learning outcomes. More interactive and relevant learning will increase student motivation and involvement in the learning process.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the Brainwriting Strategy has a significant effect on the recount text writing skills of grade XI students of SMA Swasta Kampus Nommensen Pematangsiantar. This study used a two-group design (quasi-experimental) by providing Brainwriting Strategy treatment to the experimental group and without the strategy to the control group. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test writing and analyzed using a t-test. The results of the analysis showed a very significant increase in the experimental group with an average post-test of 85.2, much higher than the control group which only reached 74.28. The t-test value of 6.482 with Sig. (2-tailed) 0.000 (p<0.01) validates that there is a significant effect of the Brainwriting Strategy in improving students' recount text writing skills. This indicates that the alternative hypothesis (H0) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H1) was rejected. This strategy has proven to be very effective in encouraging students to generate ideas. and improve the quality of their writing.

Abstract

This community service (PkM) activity was in the form of Socialization and Training on the use of the Orai application for English teachers at SMP Negeri 4 Laguboti, which aimed to overcome the difficulties teachers had in determining effective speaking learning media, considering that students' English speaking skills were not optimal, even though the Toba region is an international tourist area. The main problem faced by partners was the lack of mastery of technology-based learning media. The solution provided was training on the Orai application, an AI-based digital media for speaking and public speaking practice. The activity, which was held on October 29-31, 2025, included socialization of Orai features such as speed and intonation analysis, followed by direct practice of recording voices and utilizing AI feedback for improvement. The evaluation results showed significant improvements in the aspects of pronunciation, tempo, and clarity of teachers' speech, as well as fostering enthusiasm for integrating technology in the teaching and learning process to make it more interactive and modern.

Three concurrent activities: data collection/reduction, data display, and conclusion draw/verification were used to analyze the shift types. The results were dominantly structure shifts, 83.3%, and unit shifts, 16.7%, in project 1; structure shifts, 100%, in project 2; unit shifts, 57.14% and class shifts, 21.42%, in project 3; and level shifts, 40.74%, and structure shifts, 44.44% in project 4. The students tended to used structure shifts and class shifts to keep translation fidelity, accuracy, adequacy, fluency, and coherence from English descriptive texts into Indonesian through Project-Based Learning. It needs to engage more subjects and data to shed pedagogical light to improve students’ ability in the translation of English narrative texts into Indonesian.
