Abstract

This research was aimed to analyze student's errors on triangular and quadrilateral material in terms of problem-solving ability. This research was motivated by the low problem-solving ability and errors often made by students during the mathematics learning. The research approach was descriptive-qualitative that was done by analyzing the students' difficulty in solving description problems. The techniques of data collection were observation, learning outcomes tests, and interviews. The data were analyzed qualitatively based on Newman Error Analysis. Based on the results of the research, it was found that students' reading errors were in the high, medium, and low categories. Students' comprehension errors were in the medium and low categories, students' transformation errors were in the high, medium, and low categories, students' process skills errors were in the high, low, and medium categories and students writing errors (encoding error) were in the high, medium, and low categories.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the learning obstacles experienced by prospective mathematics teachers when constructing proofs in real analysis. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study design. The research subjects comprised 20 third-year prospective mathematics teachers at a university in Palu. Five prospective mathematics teachers were selected for interviews based on the types of obstacles they experienced. The research instruments included a respondent ability test (RAT) and interview guidelines. Data analysis was conducted by reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that prospective mathematics teachers experience ontogenic obstacles, namely difficulty in thinking deductively and axiomatically; epistemological obstacles when difficulty in understanding definitions, difficulty in starting proofs, and difficulty in constructing complete proofs; and didactical obstacles that occur due to a procedural learning approach. These findings can be used by lecturers in designing relevant learning designs based on prospective mathematics teachers' learning trajectories to anticipate potential learning obstacle

Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary school faces challenges in improving student outcomes because of the conventional teaching methods. The limited integration of technology in the learning process results in low student engagement and suboptimal conceptual understanding. This study aims to determine the impact of using Wordwall learning media to improve the math learning outcomes of third-grade students. This research uses a quasi-experimental method with instruments in the form of test questions. Data collection techniques were carried out through tests and observations. This research was conducted at one of the elementary schools in the city of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The research sample involved students in two classes; each class had 30 students. The research findings show that there is a difference in the average learning outcomes between the two classes. The experimental class obtained an average score of 89.60, while the control class achieved an average score of 83.33. The increase in the average score of the experimental class was higher than that of the control class. The results of this study it was found that the significance level of the research results is 0.013 < 0.05. It means that the use of Wordwall learning media affects students' mathematics outcomes.

Abstract

A Review of Toulmin's Argumentation in Mathematics dan Science Learning: Implementation, Impact and the Role of the Teacher. Objective: This review study aims to analyze and provide a complete study of the role of Toulmin's argumentation model in math and science learning Methods: This study uses a systematic literature review by following the PRISMA form. We found 396 documents on the Toulmin’s argumentation model published in 2020-2024, which were collected through the Scopus database. After the screening process, 19 articles were selected for analysis using thematic analysis. Findings: The review findings show that Toulmin's argumentation model is flexible enough to be used in learning, either as an argumentation analysis tool or as part of an innovative learning design. The positive impact can be seen in improving students' critical thinking skills, conceptual understanding, reasoning, and justification abilities. In addition, teachers have a vital role in supporting students' argumentation. The teacher is a facilitator, guide, and feedback provider that helps students develop and effectively deliver arguments. Conclusion: This study confirms that Toulmin's argumentation is relevant to improving students' higher-order thinking skills. It highlights the need for professional development for teachers to optimally support argumentation-based learning and select the most appropriate ways of integrating scientific argumentation into learning practice.        Keywords: mathematics learning, role of teacher, science learning, student's skills, toulmin's argumentation.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i3.pp1199-1213

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether or not there is an influence of the Effect of Concrete Representational Abstract (CRA) Assisted Teaching Aids in the Framework of Space Building Against the Mathematical Representation Ability of Junior High School Students on Flat Side Space Building Materials. The research method is quantitative research and use a quasi-experimental with Post-Test Only Design, Non Equivalent Group Design. The study population is all of eight grade students’ at 180 Junior High School Jakarta in the second semester of the academic year 2018/2019. The samples of this study are 64 students’ of class VIII-E and VIII-F. The sampling technique using is a Cluster Random Sampling technique. This study used a data collection method by used is the instrument test of mathematical problem-solving ability. The instrument first tries at Junior High School 222 Jakarta for 60 students’ in class IX-B and IX-C. This study used tested normality, the obtained data normally distributed. Hence, hypothesis testing was using the F test with Z cal is 5,0198 which resulted in the rejection of H0 in significance level about 5% with Effect Size of 1,479 is high. Therefore, this study concluded that there is The Effect of Concrete Representational Abstract (CRA) Approach Aided by the Framework of Space Building Framework on the Mathematical Representation Ability of Junior High School Students on Flat Side Space Building Materials with testing criteria is high.

Abstract

Abstract

The use of e-learning in learning is growing. However, limiting the use of gadgets in learning activities is one of the reasons from mathematics teachers do not use e-learning in the classroom so learning is beome less innovative and creative. There is even teacher who cannot use laptop because he/she have never known e-learning or provided used learning media. The method used in this service is the guided training method where all participants are guided from the beginning of the account creation to the introduction of tools, student’s and parent’s account which available at Edmodo. In this training activity, participants also had to produce output in the form of formative test questions in the form of shared quizzes at Edmodo. Before knowing Edmodo math teachers were doubtful about its use for formative tests. However, in the training process especially when knowing the unique way to write equations on Edmodo, the level of enthusiasm and the desire of teachers to apply in the classroom also increased. All participants felt that e-learning was able to help teachers create an innovative, creative classroom atmosphere and increase motivation to learn mathematics in class.
