<![CDATA[This research is aimed at figuring out the dominant symbolisms and the meanings in the five selected love poems of Nicholas Gordon. The descriptive-qualitative method was applied in this research. To analyze the data, the researcher used qualitative data analysis. The results showed that there were twenty five conventional symbolisms and nineteen natural symbolisms in the five selected love poems of Nicholas Gordon. In other words, four conventional symbolisms and four natural symbolisms in the first selected love poem, four conventional symbolisms and eight natural symbolisms in the second selected love poem, ten conventional symbolisms and one natural symbolism in the third selected love poem, four conventional symbolisms and three natural symbolisms in the fourth selected love poem, and three conventional symbolisms and three natural symbolisms in the fifth selected love poem. In conclusion, conventional symbolism was more dominant than natural symbolism, and most of the meanings of the poems related to feelings of happiness and sadness in line with love relationship.]]>

<![CDATA[Abstract: The facts and phenomenon that most of senior high school students still encounter or face problems in understanding and answering the questions in reading texts led the researchers to conduct this quasi-experimental research, in line with teaching reading narrative through Inking Your Thinking strategy. This research is aimed at figuring out whether or not there is any significant difference in the tenth grade students’ reading comprehension achievements at SMA Negeri 2 Prabumulih among those who are taught by using Inking Your Thinking strategy and those who are not. To collect the data and to meet the objectives, the researchers used two kinds of tests (i.e. pretest and posttest) which were given to 62 students. To analyze the data, the researchers used T-test. The results of the difference analyses on experimental and control groups by using independent sample t-test showed that t-obtained was 4.839 greater than t-table which was 1.671 at the significant level p<0.05 in two tailed testing with df=60. It means that there was significant difference in students’ reading comprehension achievements among those who are taught by using Inking Your Thinking strategy and those who are not. In conclusion, Inking Your Thinking strategy can improve students’ reading comprehension achievements. Keywords: inking your thinking strategy, reading comprehension, narrative text]]>

<![CDATA[TOEFL training for the seventh semester students of English education study program FKIP, Muhammadiyah University Of Palembang. Overall “Alhamdulillah” went smoothly. All participant enthusiastically participated in the training for approximately 4 hours until it was finished. In other word, TOEFL training for seventh semester student of the English education study program FKIP, University of Muhammadiyah Palembang was Proven successful by the expressions of the participant who felt happy and were able to solve all TOEFL question given, were previously they did not know that TOEFL and in the end they understand the strategies in doing the TOEFL questions quickly and precisely, effectively end efficiently. In short, there are so many benefits that can be obtained for participant during the TOEFL training. Participant can improve their basic English Skills which are needed when taking the real TOEFL test. Pelatihan TOEFL bagi mahasiswa semester VII program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris FKIP, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang secara keseluruhan “Alhamdulilah” berjalan lancar. Semua peserta antusias mengikuti pelatihan selama lebih kurang 4 jam sampai selesai. Dengan kata lain, pelatihan TOEFL bagi bagi mahasiswa semester VII program studi pendidikan bahasa Inggris FKIP, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang sukses terbukti dengan ekspresi para peserta yang merasa bahagia dan mampu menyelesaikan semua soal-soal TOEFL yang diberikan, dimana sebelumnya mereka tidak mengenal apa itu TOEFL dan pada akhirnya mereka memahami strategi-strategi dalam mengerjakan soal-soal TOEFL dengan cepat dan tepat, effektif dan efisien. Singkatnya, begitu banyak manfaat yang bisa diperoleh bagi peserta selama mengikuti pelatihan TOEFL. Peserta dapat meningkatkan kemampuan dasar (Basic Competency) bahasa Inggris yang sangat dibutuhkan ketika mengikuti tes TOEFL yang sesungguhnya.]]>

<![CDATA[It is common for EFL students to commit grammatical errors in the early stage of learning writing, especially in paragraph writing. Therefore, this research aimed to identify the types of errors and the most dominant ones committed in descriptive paragraph writing exercises. A qualitative research design was applied to this study. Writing exercises were used as research instruments to collect the data. Twenty-six students of the English Study Program were used as participants in this study. Error Analysis Method (EAM) based on Surface Structure Taxonomy and percentage error analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings showed that there were four types of errors committed referring to misformation with a frequency of error was 47 (0,14 %), omission with a frequency of error 81 (0,24%), misordering with a frequency of error 153 (0,47%), and addition with the frequency of error was 45 (0,13%). In this case, a misordering mistake was the dominant one, and an addition error was the least dominant one committed by the students. In conclusion, the researchers assume that some factors affect students' mistakes, such as lack of knowledge and competence in English grammar. The error analysis method was a very suitable way to identify types of errors using simple present tense in descriptive paragraph writing.]]>

<![CDATA[Skripsi adalah salah satu mata kuliah wajib yang harus di tempuh oleh semua mahasiswa semester akhir untuk menyelesaikan studi Program Sarjana Strata Satu. Kenyataannya, mereka masih belum memahami cara menyusun proposal skripsi yang baik dan benar, meskipun mereka sudah memiliki Buku Pedoman Penulisan Adapun metode pelaksanaan pengabdian ini adalah melalui ceramah dan diskusi. hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa kualifikasi kemampuan mahasiswa semester VII Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris dalam menulis mini research proposal baik dengan menggunakan pendekatan quantitative maupun qualitatif adalah baik. Ini terbukti dengan meningkatnya kemampuan mereka dalam menentukan judul serta merumuskan masalah-masalah penelitian yang saing berkaitan. Mereka juga mampu untuk memparafrasekan landasan teori yang mereka gunakan dalam proposal penelitiannya dan juga mampu untuk memberikan kesimpulan (additional voice) terhadap teori yang mereka gunakan untuk menghindari plagiat. Selanjutnya, bisa dilihat dari kemampuan mereka dalam mempresentasi mini research selama berada di breakout room aplikasi Zoom dan berdasarkan observasi Dosen pemakalah, secara keseluruhan, semua peserta mampu untuk mempresentasikan mini research proposal yang sudah mereka susun sebelumnya.]]>

<![CDATA[Abstract This research aims to investigate the students’ perception on the implementation of English week program and how was the program applied. The participants were 34 students, the researchers used stratified technique sampling to take four students of each class. The researcher used questionnaire to collect data from participants. The questionnaire consists of 20 questionnaire items. The students have positive perception on the implementation of English week program. it could be seen from the result of questionnaire item number 12 “the students should follow program is applied on English week” where there were 24 students (70%) agreed about the program. <![CDATA[This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the dictation strategy in improving students' listening comprehension achievements. The researchers applied a True Experimental research design in this study. There were 64 students in grade eight of SMP Dharma Bhakti Palembang who were involved as samples taken by purposive sampling technique. The researchers used pretest and posttest as research instruments to collect the data. To analyze the data, the researchers used a t-test, in line with the paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The results showed that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, because t-obtained (3.430) was higher than t-table (2.045) and p output (0.01)<(0,05 which means that the dictation strategy was effective in teaching listening comprehension achievements to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Dharma Bhakti Palembang.]]>

<![CDATA[This study is aimed at finding out the similarities, dissimilarities, and possible learning difficulties faced by students learning English and Indonesian singular forms as well as its contribution to TEFL. The researchers used a qualitative research design. The documentation technique was used to collect the data. To analyze the data, the researchers used descriptive analysis. The results showed that there were four similarities and two dissimilarities between English and Indonesian singular forms. The four similarities were in indefinite article, definite article, quantitative adjective, and units of measurement. While the two dissimilarities were in the definite article and definite article. The possible learning difficulties faced by students learning English and Indonesian singular forms were that they were not very familiar with grammar rules and it made them perplexed and created mistakes when writing and speaking. The contribution was as teaching guidance that assists English teachers to create a better teaching Grammar design on singular forms in terms of countable and non-countable nouns.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this study was to determine how students’ perception of online learning during the Pandemic of COVID-19. Quantitative descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data. The researchers used a Google Form questionnaire as the instrument to obtain the data. The researchers used a Likert scale to examine the questionnaire and analyze the results. To find out how students’ perception of online learning during the Pandemic of Covid -19, ten questions of questionnaires were evaluated. The result of study indicated various students’ perspective to the online learning implementation. The various perceptions came from different situation such as environment, family, finance, and others.The highest percentage of positive perceptions regarding to online learning was from the students at University of Tridinanti Palembang and continued from the students at University of Muhammadiyah Palembang, then the students at Collage of Agriculture and Science Palembang, and the last was from students of Islamic University of Raden Fatah Palembang. Furthermore, some students also showed low percentage of neutral and negative perception. Therefore, universities and lecturers must work together to minimize the negative sides of online learning, as well as optimize the advantages of the internet and technology.]]>

<![CDATA[Laporan akhir pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini diharapkan memberikan manfaat yang besar, tidak hanya bagi penulis pribadi, tetapi juga bagi semua orang sebagai referensi atau pedoman dalam melakukan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang lebih baik lagi, terutama yang berhubungan dengan pelatihan menulis dan berbicara bahasa Inggris. Adapun metode yang di gunakan dalam pelatihan keterampilan menulis dan berbicara bagi siswa-siswi MTs Nurul Hilal Desa Senuro Timur. Dalam hal ini, penulis memberikan media gambar dan arahan kepada siswa tentang instruksi dalam mengerjakan latihan menulis, kemudian peserta mulai mengerjakannya dan pada akhirnya mereka menceritakan apa yang telah mereka tulis kedepan teman-teman mereka dengan menggunakan teknik «look-up and say». Sebelum pelatihan dimulai para peserta sudah datang lebih awal dan memenuhi salah satu rumah warga yang dijadikan tempat pelatihan. Kecamatan Tanjung Batu Kabupaten Ogan Ilir yang ikut berpartisipasi dalam pelatihan tersebut. Pelatihan ketrampilan menulis dan berbicara bahasa Inggris berlangsung selama lebih kurang 5 jam. Kecamatan Tanjung Batu, Kabupaten Ogan Ilir bahwa secara keseluruhan «Alhamdulillah Hirobbil A’lamin» pelaksanaan pelatihan berjalan lancar. Semua peserta antusias mengikuti pelatihan selama lebih kurang 5 jam sampai selesai dengan ekspresi riang dan gembira dan pada akhirnya mereka mampu menyelesaikan tulisannya dan menyampaikannya didepan teman-teman mereka dalam kontek speaking atau komunikasi perorangan dengan baik. Singkatnya, begitu banyak manfaat yang bisa diperoleh bagi semua peserta selama mengikuti pelatihan keterampilan menulis dan berbicara bahasa Inggris. Bahasa Inggris, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang untuk bisa melakukan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang berkelanjutan terkait dengan pelatihan keterampilan menulis dan berbicara bahasa Inggris yang lebih intens dengan menggunakan media-media yang lebih attraktif lagi, sehingga tidak ada lagi siswa-siswi di SMP ataupun MTs yang tidak bisa menulis dan berbicara bahasa Inggris]]>
