Abstract

This study attempted to evaluate Pb accumulation in the water, sediment and mussels (Hiatula chinensis) from Lekok-Pasuruan. There were four sampling stations representing the study area: (1) urban areas, (2) water flow area from steam power plant (PLTU), (3) waste disposal area of PLTU, (4) fishing port. The average concentration of lead varied between stations in the water (0.279 ppm), sediment (0.423 ppm) and mussels (0.427 ppm). Pearson`s correlation test shows strong relationship (p > 0.05) between Pb in the water, sediment and Hiatula chinensis. Mussels accumulation of lead from the sediment was assessed using bio-concentration factor (BCF) and the result shows Hiatula chinensis is an accumulator of Pb (BCF > 1).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the density of seagrass species, seagrass biomass, and threats faced by seagrass communities in the Coastal District of Lamongan. The study was conducted in August to November 2019 in three coastal villages of Lamongan Regency, namely Tunggul Village (Station 1), Kranji (Station 2), and Banjarwati (Station 3). The stages of the study consisted of: preparation, data collection on density, threat data and seagrass stand samples, sample processing, and data analysis. The results showed that the total density of seagrass species at Stations 1, 2 and 3 was 160 stands / m2; 172 stands / m2; and 185 stands / m2. Furthermore, the total biomass of seagrass at Stations 1, 2 and 3 was 4633 gbk / m2, 2136 gbk / m2, and 9234 gbk / m2. In addition to seagrass species, seagrass density values also affect seagrass biomass. As development progresses in Lamongan Regency, it is known that the biggest threat of seagrass communities in the study site is human activity (anthropogenic), among others: anchor ships when anchored and the use of coastal areas as tourist areas, which often cleans up seagrass communities because they are deemed unfit to be enjoyed tourism sector.

Abstract

Paciran is one of the regions in East Java with great fisheries potential.  Yellow Stripe Trevally is well known for its abundance in waters and categorized as high economic value within fisheries commodity. The abundance of yellow stripe trevally highly depends on food availability within its living habitat. The aim of this study was to analyze yellow stripe trevally food composition and its relationship with plankton abundance. The result of this study shows that phytoplankton abundance (21,600x103cell/m3) was found higher than zooplankton abundance (9.093x103ind/m3). The highest abundance of phytoplankton was found in Bacillariophycae (21,552x103 cell/m3) and the lowest was found in Coscinodiscophyceae (48.197x103 cell/m3). Between two classes of zooplankton found in this study, the abundance of Maxillopoda class (8.184x103ind/m3) was found higher than Oligotriceae class (0.909x103ind/m3). The composition of plankton in the stomach of yellow stripe trevally have similar pattern with the compositions of plankton in the waters.Based on the calculation of electivity index, there were seven genus that have a value 0<Ei<1 and it was considered as food options of yellow stripe trevally. The selected food compositions were devided into six genus of phytoplankton, those were Asterolampra sp, Coscinodiscus sp, Cyclotella sp, Dinophysis sp, Oscillatoria. sp, Pleurosigma sp, Prorocentrum sp, and a zooplankton genus, Calanus sp. The result of main component analysis shows that water clarity parameter had significant impact on the water quality, while pH was correlated with phytoplankton abundance within in the Paciranwaters.
