Abstract

Background: Ancient Indonesian manuscripts serve as a vital repository of indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage. Despite their significance, empirical research into the collaborative dissemination frameworks required to transition these artifacts from archives to the public sphere remains limited. Purpose: This study investigates the dissemination programs for ancient manuscripts at the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia (Perpusnas RI), aiming to evaluate how these initiatives support manuscript preservation and active public utilization. Methods: Adopting a descriptive qualitative approach, the researchers conducted in-depth interviews with nine librarians and philologists, supplemented by direct and digital observations of social media and institutional websites. Data were transcribed using TurboScribe, manually coded, and validated through source and method triangulation. Analysis followed a rigorous process of reduction, presentation, and verification. Findings: The study identifies nine distinct dissemination channels: social media, the Khastara digital portal, physical exhibitions, webinars/workshops, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), literacy classes, script-writing workshops, competitions, and podcasts. While these programs align with the Information Dissemination Systems (IDS) framework, the findings reveal a critical need for expanded social participation and institutional synergy. Originality/Value: Although Perpusnas RI has implemented a systematic dissemination infrastructure, the study highlights that cross-institutional collaboration remains the primary bottleneck. The research provides a strategic foundation for recommending a national collaborative model that integrates philologists, researchers, and local communities to ensure the sustainability of Indonesia’s manuscript heritage.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of local wisdom corner services in preserving Batak culture at the University of North Sumatra (USU) Library. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach through interviews, observations, documentation and literature review. The results of the study indicate that cultural preservation is carried out through collection management, distribution, physical preservation of library materials of Batak cultural collections and even efforts to digitize the collection. The process of preserving Batak cultural knowledge is carried out through six stages, namely identification, validation, documentation, storage, transfer, and dissemination. The preserved cultural collections reflect the cultural dimensions according to Hofstede, which include symbols, figures, rituals, and values. However, there are several obstacles that cause this service to be less than optimal, such as limited collections, lack of collaboration, the absence of SOPs and the lack of cultural programs or promotions. This study confirms that local wisdom corner services can be a model for university library-based cultural preservation that not only functions as a collection provider, but also as a manager and disseminator of indigenous knowledge. Therefore, policy support, collaboration with cultural institutions, and sustainable service development are needed so that cultural preservation can run more optimally.

Abstract

The digitization of Indonesian manuscripts is not only related to the preservation of texts, but also includes visual information such as illustrations and illuminations. Previous studies have focused more on the technical aspects of digitization, while the representation of illustrations in metadata is still rarely studied. In fact, without a clear representation, illustrations are difficult to trace and utilize as cultural information. This study aims to examine the management of illustrations of Indonesian manuscripts in digital form and analyze their representation in metadata on the Khastara portal at the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia. The method used is a qualitative case study approach through non-participatory observation techniques, interviews, and literature review with five informants. Data analysis refers to the Digital Cultural Heritage Standards framework: From Silo to Semantic Web, which includes elements of METS, Semantic Web, and Enricher. The research findings show that digitization is carried out systematically and is able to record illustrations well visually. However, in metadata, illustrations are still presented as part of the general description of the manuscript and have not been positioned as independently accessible information. This condition indicates that the function of metadata is still limited to collection description and does not fully support the traceability of visual information. This research confirms that metadata development needs to be directed at the ability to represent illustrations as structured visual information. This is crucial so that digital repositories function not only as storage but also as a means of broader access and utilization of cultural heritage.

Abstract

Background/Problem Statement: The increasing use of Instagram as a platform for information dissemination encouraged various literacy communities to use it for promotion and education. However, the utilization of the @bengkulu.membaca Instagram account continues to face challenges in enhancing user engagement and expanding user reach. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the utilization of Instagram @bengkulu.membaca through an infopreneurship approach. Method: This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through interviews with the Public Relations and Documentation (Pubdekdok) team, the community founder, and followers. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Result: Instagram @bengkulu.membaca repackaged information through Canva-based infographics. The use of infographic carousel content as an information repackaging strategy successfully attracted followers’ attention and facilitated information dissemination and documentation. The infopreneurship approach implemented by the account also succeeded in establishing partnerships with sponsors and media partners to support literacy programs such as the donation of 1.000 books, seminars, and mosque reading corners. However, these partnerships primarily contributed to offline activities. Although the Bookstagram concept had been implemented, its effectiveness remained limited, as it had not yet successfully attracted new visitors.   Conclusion: The Bengkulu Membaca Community has used Instagram as a medium for information dissemination and fostering literacy community networks. This study shows that the use of Instagram by literacy communities is more effective in supporting social collaboration activities than in enhancing users’ digital literacy. These findings emphasize the need to strengthen digital interaction strategies so that Instagram functions not only as an information medium, but also as a community engagement platform.

Abstract

Background: The Bengkulu State Museum houses a variety of rare collections that represent the culture of the Bengkulu people. One of the rare collections housed in this museum is the philology collection. The museum conducts conservation and preservation efforts to extend the lifespan of its philological collection materials. Purpose: This study examined the conservation and preservation methods used by the Bengkulu State Museum to protect its philological collection. Methods: The researcher used a descriptive qualitative method. Data was collected through interviews, direct observation, and document analysis. This research was conducted in March 2025. The data analysis had three main steps: coding the data, presenting or organizing the data, and drawing and checking conclusions. Results: Findings indicated that the Museum used three main methods to protect the collection: active preservation, passive preservation, and digital preservation through digitization. Conclusion: The Bengkulu State Museum carries out conservation and preservation activities for its philological collections through active and passive conservation measures. Active conservation activities are also optimized by using organic materials, such as spices, to reduce reliance on chemicals in collection care. Passive conservation includes implementing collection care procedures as outlined in the Collection Care SOP. Digital preservation involves converting the philological collection into a digital format. Implications: The findings highlight the need to enhance funding, facilities, and the availability of qualified experts to support optimal conservation practices. The use of natural materials and collaboration in digital preservation are crucial strategies to address limited resources and ensure the sustainability of collection preservation.
