Abstract

Tujuan dilakukan penelitian grafting karet alam siklis untuk meningkatkan hasil kompatibilitas serta sebagai bahan tambah pada resin atau bahan tambah campuran tinta. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah menggunakan teknik  pencampuran dengan menggunakan pemanas, labu leher tiga yang terdiri dari kondensor dan oil bath dengan menggunakan glisidil metakrilitas sebagai monomer dan dikumil peroksida sebagai inisiator proses pemanasan dilakukan pada suhu 62°C dan variasi inisiator dikumil peroksida dengan konsentrasi (0,1.,0,5., 1 MR). Hasil yang di dapat kemudian dianalisis menggunakan spektra FTIR dilakukan untuk mengkonfirmasi keberadaan cangkokan GMA pada rantai karet alam siklik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terbentuknya produk CNR-g-GMA yang ditandai dengan  munculnya puncak serapan bilangan gelombang (penyerapan gugus karbonil) khas karbonil (C=O) pada daerah 1701 cm-1 dengan demikian bahwa hasil ini menunjukkan. derajat pencangkokan dari glisidil metakrilat meningkat seiring dengan bertambahnya waktu reaksi.

Abstract

Aspal termodifikasi merupakan salah satu solusi untuk meningkatkan kualitas aspal. Modifikasi dilakukan dengan cara mencampurkan aspal dengan material lain yang dapat memperbaiki kelemahan aspal. Material baru yang memungkinkan dicoba untuk dijadikan campuran dalam pembuatan aspal adalah karet alam siklik (Cyclic Natural Rubber) Penelitian mengenai modifikasi aspal polimer yang memanfaatkan karet alam siklik dengan adanya maleat anhidrida dan dikumil peroksida melalui proses blending. Modifikasi telah dilakukan melalui proses blending antara aspal penetrasi 60/70 dengan karet alam siklik menggunakan pelarut kloroform yang dilanjutkan dengan penambahan maleat anhidrat sebagai agen pengikat dan dikumil peroksida sebagai inisiator. Keberhasilan blending aspal dengan karet alam siklik dapat dilihat dari analisis FTIR yang menujukkan puncak-puncak khas gelombang serapan pada 1737 cm-1 sebegai puncak karbonil (C=O), 1655 cm-1 sebagai puncak vinil (C=C), 1023 cm-1 sebagai puncak karboksilat. Penambahan polimer reaktif secara in-situ ke dalam aspal memberikan dampak yang signifikan terhadap perubahan sifat kimia dan fisiknya. Secara kimia, interaksi antara polimer reaktif dengan komponen-komponen aspal menyebabkan terjadinya ikatan kimia baru, yang meningkatkan stabilitas termal dan ketahanan oksidasi aspal. Polimer reaktif berfungsi sebagai modifikator yang mampu memperbaiki struktur molekul aspal

Abstract

The grafting degree of maleic anhydride onto cyclized natural rubber is generally still low. This is due to the lack of electron density of the maleic anhydride double bond so that its reactivity is low. This research aims to increase the grafting degree by the addition of a styrene comonomer. Grafting of maleic anhydride onto cyclized natural rubber had been performed in an internal mixer 150 oC and 80 rpm in the presence of styrene comonomer. The grafted product was analyzed by Fourier Transform Infra-Red to determine the presence of maleic groups and Differential Scanning Calorimetry and Thermalgravimetric to investigate its thermal properties. Fourier Transform Infra-Red spectra confirmed that the grafted product of maleic anhydride onto Cyclized Natural Rubber formed with absorption at 1700 cm-1, 1850 cm-1 and 700 cm-1. The higher concentration of maleic anhydride reacted the higher of grafting degree of maleic anhydride with the high intensity of absorption at 1700 cm-1 and 1850 cm-1. Differential Scanning Calorimetry spectra showed that the glass transition temperature of maleated Cyclized Natural Rubber products increases, the more comonomer are added the higher the glass transition temperature of the product. Generally, based on the Thermalgravimetric spectra, the thermal properties of grafted product does not change significantly compared to the blank sample.

Abstract

This research aims to: (1) To determine the validity of the STEM e-module based on Project Based Learning (PjBL) on chemical equilibrium material. (2) To determine students' responses to STEM e-modules based on PjBL on chemical equilibrium material. The research background highlights the challenges of 21st century learning where learning is carried out by utilizing technology and using an independent curriculum where the learning process is student-centered. So the STEM-PjBL e-module is an alternative that students can use in the learning process with flexibility. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) is an alternative learning solution for the 21st century. The development model used is the ADDIE Model which consists of five stages including Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. The e-module assessment instrument is a validation instrument from material and design experts as well as a student response questionnaire in the form of a Likert scale. The research results show that (1) the validation of the STEM e-module based on PjBL on chemical equilibrium material is "very valid" with an average percentage of 88.30%; (2) students' responses to the application of project-based learning-based STEM e-modules on chemical equilibrium material show that the e-modules developed are categorized as "very practical" with an average percentage of 90.51%.Keywords: E-Module, STEM, Project, Chemical EquilibriumDOI: 10.23960/jppk.v13i3.32219

Abstract

Although natural rubber has many good qualities, its commercial uses are limited by its low chemical reactivity and low heat stability. A derivative with better stability, Cyclic Natural Rubber (CNR), has to be chemically modified to increase its usefulness and broaden its range of applications. Investigating the effects of two different methods, the melt processing and solution system on the FTIR spectra of Cyclic Natural Rubber (CNR) graft copolymerization with Glycidyl Methacrylate (GMA) was the aim of this work. Additionally, an evaluation of the effect of Dicumyl Peroxide (DCP) and Benzoyl Peroxide (BPO) initiators on grafting results was carried out. According to FTIR spectrum analysis, the carbonyl ester (C=O) peak at roughly 1721 cm⁻¹, indicating effective grafting, was more pronounced in the melt processing approach than in the solution procedure. This implied that melt processing resulted in higher grafting efficiency. The absorption bands in the C-H stretching region (2860-2921 cm⁻¹) and the C=C stretching area (1672 cm⁻¹) show that the underlying structure of CNR has not degraded. The carbonyl index values for each composition showed that BPO performed better than DCP in the melt treatment method, however DCP as an initiator in the solution system produced a higher grafting efficiency than BPO.

Abstract

Tujuan dari Kegiatan pengabdian ini peningkatan nilai ekonomi dari produk olahan sampah dengan menggunakan mesin penghancur (crusher machine) di Kota Medan. Peningkatan jumlah sampah menjadi masalah yang signifikan di perkotaan, termasuk Kota Medan. Dalam upaya mengatasi masalah ini sekaligus meningkatkan nilai ekonomi sampah, penggunaan teknologi mesin penghancur diperkenalkan. Studi ini mengkaji bagaimana mesin penghancur dapat mengubah sampah menjadi produk yang memiliki nilai ekonomi lebih tinggi, seperti bahan baku untuk industri daur ulang dan produk siap pakai. Metode yang digunakan meliputi pengumpulan data melalui observasi lapangan, wawancara dengan pelaku usaha pengolahan sampah, dan analisis ekonomi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan mesin penghancur tidak hanya efektif dalam mengurangi volume sampah, tetapi juga meningkatkan pendapatan masyarakat melalui penjualan produk olahan. Selain itu, inisiatif ini berkontribusi pada pelestarian lingkungan dan pengurangan beban tempat pembuangan akhir (TPA). Artikel ini menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan mesin penghancur sampah di Kota Medan memiliki potensi besar dalam menciptakan peluang ekonomi baru dan mendukung keberlanjutan lingkungan.

Abstract

The research aims to determine the effect of the project-based learning model on learning outcomes and students' responses to acid-base material. Based on observations and interviews with students and teachers, the background of this study is that chemistry education remains teacher-centered and lacks practical activities, partly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is hoped that this model will engage students more actively in the learning process and improve their learning outcomes. This experimental research employs a pretest-posttest control group design. The research samples were students from class XI IPA 2, who experienced the project-based learning model (experimental class), and class XI IPA 1, who followed the conventional model (control class). The instruments used in this study were tests to measure student learning outcomes and questionnaires to assess student responses to the implemented learning model. The normality test results showed a significant value of 7 for both the experimental and control classes at an alpha level of 0.05. The homogeneity test indicated a value of 1.08 at an alpha level of 0.05, suggesting the data are normally distributed and have homogeneous variance. The results of the right-sided t-test showed a significant value of 7.35, which is greater than the critical value of 1.669, indicating that t_count is greater than t_table, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha).

Abstract

The quality of palm oil is strongly influenced by temperature. The oxidation of palm oil can be caused by high temperatures. The higher the storage temperature, the faster oxidation occurs. In this research, the temperature significantly affects the quality of several palm oil derivative products such as Palm Olein, Palm Stearin, Palm Kernel Oil, and Palm Kernel Stearin. Antioxidants are very effective in resisting the increase in the oxidation reaction of some palm oil commodities. With the addition of tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) or butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), the increase in peroxide value, p-anisidine values, free fatty acid, color tends to be slower than without the addition of antioxidants. For PV, BHT was the most effective antioxidant for RPKOL at a 29.75% increase, RBDOL at 9.91%, and RBDST at 5.26% but for RPKS TBHQ was the most effective increase at 19.83%. For anisidine value, TBHQ+BHT was most effective for RPKOL with a 61.62% increase, TBHQ for RPKS with 76.76%, BHT for RBDOL and RBDST with 15.37% and 14.46%. In the FFA test, BHT was effective for RPKOL and RPKS with a percentage increase of 6.48% and 6.67%, but TBHQ was effective for RBDOL and RBDST to controlled FFA with an increase of 8.41% and 3.38%. In color testing, TBHQ proved to be the effective antioxidant for RPKOL and RBDOL, resulting in percentage increases of 8.71% and 2.13%, respectively. For RPKS, the combination of TBHQ and BHT was employed, resulting in no percentage increase (0%). Additionally, BHT at 3.85% was used for RBDST. At a temperature of 130°C, an oxidation process was observed, indicating the formation of an aldehyde compound. This was evidenced by the FT-IR spectrum, showing peaks at wave numbers 1760 cm⁻¹ (C=O of aldehyde) and 2900 cm⁻¹ (CH on aldehyde). In this research, we can also see the formation of trans fatty acids C18:1n9t in GC-FID's peak area
