Abstract

Asap cair merupakan hasil pemanasan proses pirolisis sebelum dikondensasi. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui proses pirolisis pembuatan asap cair, mengetahui komposisi asap cair dan mengetahui temperatur optimal pada proses pirolisis pembuatan asap cair dari tempurung kelapa. Metode penelitian ini yaitu tahap tempurung kelapa dengan variasi temperatur 200-250°C; 250-300°C; 300-350°C. Produk asap cair dikarakterisasi dengan pengukuran pH, GC-MS, Viscocity. Hasil penelitian pada proses pH dengan suhu 2000-3500C adalah 3,10-3,14. Pada analisis komposisi asap cair dengan analisis GC-MS senyawa yang terkandung adalah Asam Karboksilat, Alkohol, Keton, dan Ester dan untuk viscocity dengan suhu 200-3500C adalah 3,580-4,333. Jumlah asam yang diperoleh dari hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan kualitas asap cair dari pirolisis  tempurung ini sangat baik. Komposisi asap cair yang paling optimal adalah pada suhu 200-250° .

Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian mengenai karakterisasi bioplastik dari pelepah kelapa sawit yang bertujuan untuk melihat pengaruh penambahan variasi perbandingan maizena dan gliserin pada sampel. Dimana pelepah kelapa sawit yang mengandung selulosa, dalam penelitian ini telah disintesis menjadi bioplastik melalui proses delignifikasi dan bleaching cacahan pelepah kelapa sawit kering. Selulosa yang didapat diasetilasi untuk mengubahnya menjadi selulosa asetat. Selulosa asetat yang terbentuk selanjutnya disintesis dengan penambahan berbagai variasi perbandingan maizena dan gliserin. Karakterisasi bioplastik dilakukan dengan menggunakan alat universal testing machine yang meliputi kuat tarik dan elongasi, sedangkan untuk uji degradasi menggunakan metode gravimetri. Dari hasil pengujian, didapatkan nilai kuat tarik, elongasi dan degradasi tertinggi secara berurut yaitu sebesar 8,96 MPa, 23,61 % dan 91 %.Kata kunci : Bioplastik, Pelepah Kelapa sawit, Maizena, Gliserin, Karakterisasi.

Abstract

Palm fatty acid distillate (PFAD) is a waste from cooking oil which is rich in free fatty acids (FFA). The high FFA content in PFAD allows PFAD to be processed into a renewable and economically valuable energy source, namely biodiesel through an esterification process using methanol with the help of an amberlyst catalyst. This study aims to see how the effect of variations in flow rates on the conversion of PFAD to biodiesel which takes place in a continuous reactor and to see the effect of repeated use of catalysts at optimum conditions on the conversion rate. The results showed that the optimum conditions were obtained with a methanol flow rate of 2 ml/minute. The flow rate of methanol above 2 ml/minute actually inhibits the reaction process. The repeated use of the catalyst reduces the availability of active sites and increases the presence of impurities and reduces the thermal stability of the catalyst at high temperatures.Keywords: Amberlist; Biodiesel; Esterification; PFAD

Abstract

PT. Kayu Lapis Indonesia (PT KLI) is a company engaged in the forestry sector, particularly in wood processing. Production activities at PT KLI produce wastewater that is treated and discharged into the sea, and then spreads following ocean currents. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of wastewater produced by PT KLI and predict the distribution pattern of the waste. The characteristics of the wastewater and seawater were obtained through in situ measurements and sampling, which were analyzed in the laboratory. The distribution pattern of wastewater discharge was modeled using the pollutant model from the hydrodynamic model results around the water. The characteristics of the PT KLI wastewater were dominated by parameters such as pH, biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), total suspended solids (TSS), and total ammonia. The wastewater was processed in a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) until all the parameters met predetermined standards before being discharged into the ocean. The model results show that wastewater tends to move westward both at high tide in the west and east monsoons and at low tide in the west and east monsoons, with little movement to the east.

Abstract

Research on the use of modified bentonite from Bener Meriah Aceh to study the morphology and thermal properties of polypropylene-montmorillonite nanocomposite (PP-MMT) was carried out. Bentonite was isolated into nano-sized montmorillonite and modified with the addition of PP-g-MA as a compatibilizer and octadecylamine as a modifier of MMT. PP-MMT nanocomposite processing was carried out in an internal mixer at 180 oC with a time of 10 minutes, and a speed of 65 rpm. Based on the results of the TGA-DTA test, the modified bentonite from Bener Meriah Aceh with PP-g-MA and octadecylamine can improve the thermal properties of PP-MMT nanocomposite in a composition comparison of  PP; PP-g-MA; MMT is 85; 10; 5. The SEM test results also showed that exfoliation and intercalation had occurred of MMT at PP-MMT nanocomposite.

Abstract

The quality of palm oil is strongly influenced by temperature. The oxidation of palm oil can be caused by high temperatures. The higher the storage temperature, the faster oxidation occurs. In this research, the temperature significantly affects the quality of several palm oil derivative products such as Palm Olein, Palm Stearin, Palm Kernel Oil, and Palm Kernel Stearin. Antioxidants are very effective in resisting the increase in the oxidation reaction of some palm oil commodities. With the addition of tertiary butylhydroquinone (TBHQ) or butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), the increase in peroxide value, p-anisidine values, free fatty acid, color tends to be slower than without the addition of antioxidants. For PV, BHT was the most effective antioxidant for RPKOL at a 29.75% increase, RBDOL at 9.91%, and RBDST at 5.26% but for RPKS TBHQ was the most effective increase at 19.83%. For anisidine value, TBHQ+BHT was most effective for RPKOL with a 61.62% increase, TBHQ for RPKS with 76.76%, BHT for RBDOL and RBDST with 15.37% and 14.46%. In the FFA test, BHT was effective for RPKOL and RPKS with a percentage increase of 6.48% and 6.67%, but TBHQ was effective for RBDOL and RBDST to controlled FFA with an increase of 8.41% and 3.38%. In color testing, TBHQ proved to be the effective antioxidant for RPKOL and RBDOL, resulting in percentage increases of 8.71% and 2.13%, respectively. For RPKS, the combination of TBHQ and BHT was employed, resulting in no percentage increase (0%). Additionally, BHT at 3.85% was used for RBDST. At a temperature of 130°C, an oxidation process was observed, indicating the formation of an aldehyde compound. This was evidenced by the FT-IR spectrum, showing peaks at wave numbers 1760 cm⁻¹ (C=O of aldehyde) and 2900 cm⁻¹ (CH on aldehyde). Abstract

Sappan wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.) from the Caesalpiniaceae family is a plant that has been widely used as a health drink such as herbal medicine, in Sundanese called jamu or wedang secang. The drink containing C.sappan extract is traditionally believed to have the ability to reduce symptoms of colds, coughs, canker sores, and rheumatism, overcome fatigue and improve blood circulation. In this research, wood extract of C. sappan L in acetone solvent tested as antibacterial and anticancer. The antibacterial test was performed on the bacteria Streptococcus mutans ATCC 35668 and Enterococcus. faecalis ATCC 49619 with paper disc diffusion method. The microdilution method was used to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). The anticancer test is carried out in vitro on A549 lung cancer cells using the MTT method assay. The results showed that the wood extract of C. sappan L in acetone has weak antibacterial activity against S. mutans ATCC 35668 and E. faecalis ATCC 49619. The MIC is 1250 ug/mL, respectively. Aceton wood extract of C. sappan L. showed moderate anticancer activity with IC50 value 90,01µg/mL. Thus, the extract of C. sappan L. in acetone has the potential as a source of anticancer compounds.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah hasil belajar siswa yang diajarkan dengan model Project Based Learning lebih tinggi daripada hasil belajar siswa yang diajarkan dengan model kovensional. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimen semu dengan desain pretest-posttest control group design. Populasi pada penelitian ini yaitu kelas XI IPA SMA Negeri 2 Medan. Pemilihan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Sampel dari penelitian adalah kelas XI IPA 2 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas XI IPA 4 sebagai kelas kontrol. Kelas eksperimen diberikan perlakuan yaitu pembelajaran kimia dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran Project Based Learning(PjBL), sedangkan kelas kontrol menggunakan model pembelajaran konvensional. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi dan tes kemampuan awal siswa. Analisis data penelitian ini menggunakan pengujian Independent T-Test dengan α = 0,05 diperoleh nilai thitung sebesar 7,21 dan ttabel sebesar 2,71 (Ha diterima). Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa hasil belajar siswa yang diajarkan dengan model PjBL lebih tinggi daripada hasil belajar siswa yang diajarkan dengan model konvensional. Hal ini berarti model Project Based Learning memberikan hasil belajar yang lebih baik dibandingkan model konvensional.

Abstract

Although natural rubber has many good qualities, its commercial uses are limited by its low chemical reactivity and low heat stability. A derivative with better stability, Cyclic Natural Rubber (CNR), has to be chemically modified to increase its usefulness and broaden its range of applications. Investigating the effects of two different methods, the melt processing and solution system on the FTIR spectra of Cyclic Natural Rubber (CNR) graft copolymerization with Glycidyl Methacrylate (GMA) was the aim of this work. Additionally, an evaluation of the effect of Dicumyl Peroxide (DCP) and Benzoyl Peroxide (BPO) initiators on grafting results was carried out. According to FTIR spectrum analysis, the carbonyl ester (C=O) peak at roughly 1721 cm⁻¹, indicating effective grafting, was more pronounced in the melt processing approach than in the solution procedure. This implied that melt processing resulted in higher grafting efficiency. The absorption bands in the C-H stretching region (2860-2921 cm⁻¹) and the C=C stretching area (1672 cm⁻¹) show that the underlying structure of CNR has not degraded. The carbonyl index values for each composition showed that BPO performed better than DCP in the melt treatment method, however DCP as an initiator in the solution system produced a higher grafting efficiency than BPO.

Abstract

Tujuan dari Kegiatan pengabdian ini peningkatan nilai ekonomi dari produk olahan sampah dengan menggunakan mesin penghancur (crusher machine) di Kota Medan. Peningkatan jumlah sampah menjadi masalah yang signifikan di perkotaan, termasuk Kota Medan. Dalam upaya mengatasi masalah ini sekaligus meningkatkan nilai ekonomi sampah, penggunaan teknologi mesin penghancur diperkenalkan. Studi ini mengkaji bagaimana mesin penghancur dapat mengubah sampah menjadi produk yang memiliki nilai ekonomi lebih tinggi, seperti bahan baku untuk industri daur ulang dan produk siap pakai. Metode yang digunakan meliputi pengumpulan data melalui observasi lapangan, wawancara dengan pelaku usaha pengolahan sampah, dan analisis ekonomi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan mesin penghancur tidak hanya efektif dalam mengurangi volume sampah, tetapi juga meningkatkan pendapatan masyarakat melalui penjualan produk olahan. Selain itu, inisiatif ini berkontribusi pada pelestarian lingkungan dan pengurangan beban tempat pembuangan akhir (TPA). Artikel ini menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan mesin penghancur sampah di Kota Medan memiliki potensi besar dalam menciptakan peluang ekonomi baru dan mendukung keberlanjutan lingkungan.
