Abstract

Abstract

This research aimed to produce magnetites from the residue of iron sand extract solution in HCl and the effect of silica encapsulation on the magnetite used XRD, SEM and FTIR characterization tools. The crystal size tended to increase in the magnetite encapsulated by silica (K (6%), L (9%), N (24%) and O (36%), because the perfect condensation and hydrolysis of the encapsulation material, while the M sample (12%) decreased the crystal size of 17.41 nm because the hydrolysis and condensation of the sample did not occur completely. The crystals in magnetite before and after being encapsulated with silica did not change. The transmittance of the typical functional groups of magnetite (Fe-O) and the typical functional groups of silica (Si-O-Si) tends to decrease after encapsulation with silica which caused the infrared absorbance of the molecules to increase high so that the presence of magnetite and silica is higher in the silica encapsulated sample The effect of variations in silica concentration on SEM characterization results is reduced agglomeration, particles that coincide and stick to the sample as the silica concentration increased with the smallest particle size found in the M sample (12%), namely the range of 10-50 nm. The residue of the iron sand extract solution with HCl can form nanomagnetites with an average particle size range below 100 nm.

Abstract

This article revisits Maut dan Cinta (1977), a seminal Cold War-era novel by Indonesian author Mochtar Lubis, to examine how the text engages with cultural imperialism in postcolonial Indonesia through its complex portrayal of the Occident. Employing Martin Suryajaya’s “wide-close-deep” methodology—a three-pronged framework for literary analysis—the study situates Lubis’s work within Indonesia’s Cold War cultural politics, highlighting the author’s contested ideological stance. Through the lenses of Occidentalism and cultural imperialism, the analysis reveals Lubis’s profound ambivalence toward Western influence: while critiquing Western hegemony and cautioning against uncritical adoption of Western values, his works simultaneously echo the capitalist Bloc’s anticommunist rhetoric, and his cultural-intellectual networks remain entrenched in Western capital. This paradox deepens with Lubis’s selective embrace of Western liberalism, which coexists with a striking silence on capitalism’s role in perpetuating global inequality. Crucially, his vehement rejection of communist internationalism starkly contrasts with his reluctance to address capitalism’s transnational exploitation of the Global South—a contradiction epitomized by his protagonist Sadeli’s distorted view of the Occident and the characters’ failure to recognize global capitalism’s neocolonial and culturally imperialist dynamics. By unpacking these tensions, the study argues that Lubis’s ambivalence in Maut dan Cinta reflects the broader ideological fissures of postcolonial intellectual resistance during the Cold War, caught between anti-imperialist critique and complicity in hegemonic structures.

Abstract

Literary works with historical content are literary works created by writers referring to historically valuable events, namely important human events occurred in the past. The literary works also contain historical messages, such as the heroic values. Literary learning activities to appreciate historically charged literary works containing heroic stories can be used as a way to instill heroic values in students. For this reason, literary learning activities are needed that are able to correctly process the heroic values contained in historical literary works so that these values are able to have a strong influence on the lives of students. In this learning activity, the activities were selected from those directly and indirectly related to the activities of appreciating literature. The activities are (1) reading heroic literature and discuss it (2) write or create heroic literature in the form of poetry and short stories, (3) celebrate heroic literature by reading poetry and reading short stories, and historical literature (4) dialogue about heroic films to enhance the horizon and (5) develop an attitude of respect for heroism by appreciating heroism in everyday life as a form of appreciation. Literary learning can be used as a vehicle to instill the value of heroism by making historical literature as the topic of discussion and by processing it as activities that can be an arena for internalization and externalization. The internalization process encourages to instill the values into students' personalities and externalizing processes can be made through various expressions, so that students are trained to understand the values in their lives.

Abstract

This article departs from the findings of the implementation of the community service program of Literary Studies, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada in the form of providing workshop and assistance in writing fiction works for the Komunitas Jejak Imaji (KJI). KJI is a space of community for writers, poets, and students who carry out the routine of gathering, discussing, and producing literary works. This community is located in Yogyakarta — which culturally has a social climate that supports the existence of literary development and the literary community. In the midst of a pandemic, the demands for innovation on the formation of new habits and new knowledge provide a new field for communities to continue to exist in producing literary works. This service was initiated to spark community awareness to revive its literary space amid the pandemic. The implementation of the service program uses lecture, discussion, and practice methods to produce works about Covid-19 that are ready to be published through the application of research and processing of historical data, as well as social facts in literary works. Even though the story ideas from the 14 works of fiction they wrote were a response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tendency of their works is not far from the social problems surrounding them. The conceptual framework used to see the tendency of KJI's fiction is Laclau and Mouffe's discourse theory which is to answer the question of how the corona is received and responded to in a political space as well as a literary poetic space. The results of these activities show that the entire works of fiction written by the Imaji Literature Community, tend to put the discourse of globality clashed with various social problems experienced by the Indonesian people in general and local communities in particular during the pandemic.

Abstract

Abstract A study was conducted on the manufacture of polymer mortar using Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) as a substitute for sand with a composition of 0%, 0.2%, 0.5%, 0.8%, 1.1%, 1.4% and Ethylene Vinyl Acetate (EVA) polymer composition of 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%. Sand, cement and polymer materials were weighed and molded into a size of 16 × 4 × 4 cm3 and soaked in water for 7 and 14 days. The highest flexural strength value obtained at 14 days of immersion was 6.50 MPa, porosity at 7 days of 12.20%, absorption value at 7 days of 6.65% and density at 14 days of 1.89 g/cm3 with a polymer substitution composition for sand of 10% EVA polymer: 1.4% PET. Characterization of the sample was carried out using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Scanning Electron Microscope- Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). XRF characterization obtained CaO of 46.95% and SiO2 of 24.45%, which is the result of CS-H formation. XRD characterization obtained calcite, quartz, corundum, hematite phases. SEM-EDS images show a cauliflower-like morphology and dominant elements of Ca and Si. FTIR functional groups are O-H, C=O, C-C, C-H, Si-O-Si, and Si-O is a portlandite group. The increasing addition of EVA and PET polymers results in high porosity and high flexural strength. Keywords: Polymer, mortar, EVA, PET, and characterization.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the representation of society and culture in Middle Eastern countries, including Morocco, Syria, and Jordan in the novel Geni Jora. The theory used is the theory of travel literature with the concept of representation of others according to Carl Thompson. Travel literature is a report about the world that is written based on the author's subjectivity and has a role in shaping the reader's knowledge. The results of the analysis show that the novel Geni Jora uses exploratory journey narratives and presents critical and courageous subjects. Morocco is described as a tolerant Islamic country because it succeeded in combining European modernity with past Islamic religiosity and Jewish culture. While Syria is described as a modern country, it is less religious and too Westernized. Likewise, Jordan is described as an Islamic country, but too westernized and inconsistent with Islamic ethics. The novel represents a contemporary travel literary genre that presents alternative and realistic narratives about the condition of the Middle East as a complex and diverse region. The novel also represents the contemporary travel genre which has not succeeded in narrating cosmopolitanism by still presenting competitive narratives and travel subjects that are superior when interacting with the characters encountered.

Abstract

This study scrutinizes the personal and collective doxa in Kampung Pentigraf Indonesia (The Indonesian Pentigraf Village or KPI), a community started by Tengsoe Tjahjono. This study applies Bourdieu’s theory of the field of cultural production as the frame to observe how Tjahjono’s personal beliefs, or personal doxa, are spread to the members of KPI and hence converted as collective doxa. This study uncovers how Tjahjono’s values shape the community dynamics by exploring socialization and internalization practices in KPI. The findings show that the personal doxa rooted in Tjahjono’s symbolic capital reinforces social structures in KPI, where his power drives the community’s practices. This study emphasizes the role of social sanctions in preserving the community’s principles to guarantee that the Pentigrafs written by the KPI members obey the rules. Moreover, the study discovers how vertical and horizontal interactions in the community contribute to social reproduction, allowing KPI standards to be passed down to new members. This study contributes to understanding how literary communities play a role in cultural production, proposing insights into the dynamics of symbolic power and the practices of socialization and internalization in a minor but highly organized creative setting.

Abstract

This article reviews the types of leadership that were written in babad and hikayat in Java and Malay. The Author used three classical works as the primary sources, namely Babad Tanah Jawi, Hikayat Raja-raja Pasai, and Hikayat Hang Tuah. Although there is a very fundamental difference between the power system in Java and Malay but, in the context of leadership, there are similarities. Babad and hikayat gave an image that an authority was a charismatic figure. Other images are to have supernatural power, mystical power, and religious power. These forces inherent genealogically so that authorities in the past and their descendants cult because they seem to be presented as a Messiah. This unquestionable leadership had potentially caused an unfair power-sharing. Based on these three works, the Author gives a reflection of the ideal leadership model that is feasible in the present, namely the anti-hero leaders who are honest, courteous, and fair, instead of the Messiah which is expected to bring the impact of the changes quickly.

Abstract

This article aims to describe manuscript comparison between Syair Nabi Allah Ayub (SNAA) and Hikayat Nabi Ayub Dimurkai Allah (HNADA) based on intertextual approach. This study describes equations, differences and hypograms in the form of expansion and modification. The equation in the two texts is that the Prophet Ayub was given a trial repeatedly by Allah SWT, the Prophet Ayub left his country when he was sick, the wife of the Prophet Job made a living when the Prophet Ayub was sick, Prophet Ayub recovered thanks to the water rising from the ground. The difference in the two texts is the beginning of the story of Prophet Job, the background of the story and the end of the story. The expansion hypogram is in the form of the addition of the angel Michael's figure and the reduction of the male character to the SNAA script. The conversion in the form of SNAA text seems to be a predecessor text of HNADA because it has a more complete story, even though the year of writing was older. While the modification is a change because the Prophet Ayub received trials from God.
