Abstract

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze changes in hemoglobin levels before and after cesarean section and their association with maternal age and parity in pregnant women at YARSI Hospital from January to October 2025, as well as to review cesarean section from an Islamic perspective. This study employed a descriptive analytic design with a retrospective approach using secondary data obtained from medical records. A total of 292 pregnant women who underwent cesarean section and met the inclusion criteria were selected through consecutive sampling. Data analysis included univariate and bivariate analyses, using a paired t-test to assess differences in hemoglobin levels before and after cesarean section and a chi-square test to examine the relationship between age, parity, and changes in hemoglobin levels. The results showed that the mean hemoglobin level before cesarean section was 11.67 g/dL and after cesarean section was 11.78 g/dL, with no statistically significant difference between the two measurements. Furthermore, there was no significant association between maternal age or parity and changes in hemoglobin levels. From an Islamic perspective, cesarean section is permissible as it aligns with the principle of Hifz al-Nafs (protection of life) within Maqasid Shari‘ah, provided it is performed based on medical indications and aims to prevent harm to the mother and fetus. In conclusion, cesarean section at YARSI Hospital did not result in significant changes in hemoglobin levels and was not influenced by maternal age or parity, while remaining consistent with Islamic medical ethics.

Abstract

Elderly patients are prone to electrolyte balance disorders due to aging, decreased organ function, hormonal changes, and high comorbidities. Imbalances of sodium, potassium, and chloride can affect neurological, muscle, and cardiovascular function, thus contributing to clinical instability in the emergency room. This study is an observational study of cross-cutting design analysis based on secondary data of medical records. The subject is an elderly patient (≥60 years old) who underwent an electrolyte examination at the Yarsi Hospital Emergency Room for the January-December 2023 period. Of the 1,730 visits, 315 patients met the inclusion criteria. The variables analyzed included sodium, potassium, chloride levels, as well as characteristics of age, sex, and clinical condition upon admission. Univariate and bivariate analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test. The majority of subjects were early elderly women. Hyponatremia is the most frequent disorder, followed by hypokalemia and hypochloremia. A total of 53% of patients experienced one electrolyte disorder, 36.2% two disorders, and 10.8% three disorders at once. The most common clinical conditions are low intake, chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, infection, CVDNH, and vomiting. The Chi-Square test showed a significant association between clinical conditions and sodium (p=0.029), potassium (p=0.038), and chloride (p=0.027) impairments. Electrolyte disorders in the elderly in the emergency room are significantly related to the patient's clinical condition. Hyponatremia is most dominant and is associated with  poor intake, chronic kidney disease, infections, and diabetes.

Abstract

Abstract

Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) are increasingly popular among adolescents and contribute significantly to daily caloric intake, potentially affecting nutritional status. This study aims to analyze the effect of high-sugar beverage consumption and physical activity on nutritional status among adolescents. This cross-sectional study involved 90 junior high school students aged 12-15 years from two schools selected proportionally. Data were collected using the BEVQ-15 questionnaire for high-sugar beverage consumption, IPAQ for physical activity, and direct measurements of weight and height to determine nutritional status based on BMI. Data analysis used Chi-Square test for bivariate analysis and ordinal regression for multivariate analysis. Results showed that the majority of respondents (66.7%) had low consumption of high-sugar beverages. Distribution of nutritional status showed most respondents were in the underweight category and normal nutritional status. Bivariate and multivariate analysis showed no significant relationship and effect between high-sugar beverage consumption and physical activity on adolescent nutritional status (p > 0.05). This study concludes that high-sugar beverage consumption and physical activity showed no significant effect on adolescent nutritional status, possibly due to uneven distribution of nutritional status and the influence of other unmeasured factors such as total energy intake, overall dietary patterns, and genetic factors.

Abstract

As individuals age, they experience a natural decline in physical and cognitive function, increasing their vulnerability to various health problems, including depression. This condition may lead to reduced cognitive ability, diminished physical functioning, social withdrawal, poor sleep quality, and an elevated risk of suicide. Depression is more prevalent among older adults residing in nursing homes compared to those living with their families, and has been shown to negatively affect nearly all dimensions of quality of life. In Islamic teachings, caring for the elderly is a moral and spiritual obligation that emphasizes respect, compassion, and the fulfillment of their rights. This study aims to analyze the effect of depression level on the quality of life of older adults living in nursing homes and to examine these findings from an Islamic perspective. A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed, involving 77 respondents selected through simple random sampling. Of these, 16 respondents experienced depression and 5 were identified as having poor quality of life. The chi-square test yielded a p-value of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant association between depression level and quality of life. These findings highlight the impact of depression on the well-being of older adults and underscore the importance of providing humane, person-centered care aligned with religious values.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an infectious disease that remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, particularly in tropical regions such as North Jakarta. Meteorological factors, including air temperature, humidity, rainfall, and wind speed, play an important role in the spread of this disease because they affect the life cycle and activity of the Aedes aegypti mosquito vector. The high number of DHF cases in the Tanjung Priok area over the years is thought to be influenced by variations in these dynamic climatic factors. This study was an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design using secondary data. Data on DHF cases were obtained from the annual reports of the Tanjung Priok Health Center, while meteorological data (air temperature, humidity, rainfall, and wind speed) were collected from NASA. Data analysis was performed using multiple linear regression tests to determine the relationship between meteorological factors and DHF prevalence. The results showed that the meteorological factor that had a significant effect on the prevalence of DHF was wind speed (p = 0.046). Meanwhile, air temperature (p = 0.902), humidity (p = 0.562), and rainfall (p = 0.528) did not show significant relationships. The increase in wind speed can extend the flying range of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, thereby increasing the potential for DHF transmission in densely populated areas. This study concludes that there is a significant relationship between wind speed and the prevalence of DHF in the Tanjung Priok Health Center area, North Jakarta.

Abstract

One of the social conflicts that often occurs within families is the dispute over the distribution of inheritance. Many cases have resulted in damaged family relationships due to inheritance issues. In various regions, including Ciseeng, Bogor Regency, many people still lack understanding of the rules for inheritance distribution according to Islamic law. Therefore, the community service team from YARSI University carried out a counseling program entitled "Education on Islamic Inheritance Law as an Effort to Build Harmonious Families and Communities for the Residents of Ciseeng, Bogor Regency." This program aimed to help the people of Ciseeng Village understand inheritance law based on Islamic sharia, so that inheritance division does not become a source of family conflict. The activity was attended by 24 participants (4 women and 20 men) aged 33–70 years. The method used was participatory, involving material presentations, interactive discussions, and evaluation through pre-test and post-test using a One Group Pre-Test and Post-Test design. The materials presented included: Introduction to Islamic Inheritance Law, Analysis of Primary Heirs, and Inheritance Application Practice. The data analysis showed a statistically significant improvement (p = 0.024). The mean pre-test score was M = 5.217 and the mean post-test score was M = 5.957 out of a maximum score of 10, indicating a 7.4% increase in participants’ understanding after the educational intervention. In addition, the majority of participants gave positive feedback on the material and implementation of the activity. These results indicate that this community service program effectively improved participants’ understanding of inheritance education according to Islamic sharia. For future programs, it is recommended to extend the duration of material presentation and Q&A sessions to achieve better learning outcomes.
