Abstract

Education in Indonesia plays a crucial role in shaping children’s character and skills, and numeracy literacy is an important aspect in this process. A workshop on creating mathematical picture story books for teachers at Fatma Kenanga Elementary School was held to provide solutions to the challenges of creating an engaging literate learning environment. Mathematical picture story books are recognized as an effective tool for developing numeracy literacy skills and stimulating children’s critical thinking skills. However, the difficulty teachers have in finding mathematical picture story books that meet the criteria of the reading level motivated the holding of this workshop. The workshop aimed to provide understanding and skills to teachers at Fatma Kenanga Elementary School in creating mathematical picture story books that meet the needs of children. Through the PAR method, this workshop provided practical and creative guidance for teachers. The results showed an increase in teacher creativity in designing stories, applying simple illustration techniques, and integrating moral values into picture stories and producing mathematical picture story books. Although the workshop provided a strong foundation, some teachers felt the need for further development. Recommendations for follow-up include additional workshops, individual coaching, and online resources to continue improving teacher skills. In conclusion, this workshop made a positive contribution in supporting teachers of Fatma Kenanga Elementary School in creating a positive and engaging literacy learning environment.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to determine how well students understand mathematical concepts and what factors affect student ability in the economics mathematics course in the Islamic economics study program. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this research are Islamic economics students from semester 2E. The subjects were selected through purposive sampling techniques. Qualitative data on students' mathematical concept understanding were obtained through observation, documentation, tests, and interviews. Before analyzing the data, the researcher conducted data source triangulation. The data analysis technique in this study involves three stages: reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing from the data. The research results classify students' mathematical concept understanding test scores into three categories: high ability, moderate ability, and low ability. For students in the high ability category, they can master all indicators of conceptual understanding, namely Rephrasing concepts, Applying concepts algorithmically, Providing examples or counterexamples of concepts, Presenting concepts in various representations, and Relating various concepts to their everyday life. Students in the moderate ability category are able to master 3 indicators: Rephrasing concepts, Applying concepts algorithmically, Providing examples or counterexamples of concepts. Students in the low ability category can only master 2 indicators, which are Rephrasing concepts, and Providing examples or counterexamples of concepts. Additionally, there are internal and external factors that influence students' understanding of mathematical concepts. Internal factors include self-confidence, interest in learning, and motivation to learn, while external factors include educational background and teaching methods.

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematika siswa SMP pada soal non-rutin dengan menyoroti peran disposisi matematis dan kecemasan matematis. Penelitian dilakukan pada 30 siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 24 Kota Bengkulu tahun ajaran 2024/2025 dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling karena dianggap relevan dengan materi Teorema Pythagoras dan proses pemecahan masalah. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes pemecahan masalah berbasis langkah Polya, angket disposisi matematis, dan angket kecemasan matematis. Analisis dilakukan dengan mengelompokkan skor ke dalam kategori tinggi, sedang, dan rendah menggunakan rata-rata dan standar deviasi sebagai acuan. Hasil kategorisasi disposisi dan kecemasan kemudian dipadukan untuk membentuk beberapa profil siswa sehingga pola hubungan keduanya terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah dapat terlihat lebih jelas. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar siswa berada pada kategori pemecahan masalah sedang. Siswa dengan disposisi matematis tinggi cenderung lebih percaya diri, fleksibel, dan mampu mencoba berbagai strategi, sedangkan siswa dengan disposisi rendah tampak lebih pasif dan mudah kehilangan arah. Di sisi lain, kecemasan matematis yang tinggi membuat siswa kurang teliti, terburu-buru, dan kesulitan berpikir jernih. Secara keseluruhan, penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa disposisi matematis yang positif dapat membantu meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah, sementara kecemasan yang berlebihan menjadi faktor yang menghambat proses berpikir siswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini diarahkan untuk merancang sebuah Buku Konsep Matematika yang berlandaskan Problem Based Learning (PBL) pada materi statistika guna memperluas daya tangkap konseptual peserta didik. Proses pengembangannya memanfaatkan pendekatan Research and Development (R&D) dengan kerangka Plomp, yang mencakup fase eksplorasi awal, perancangan prototipe, serta evaluasi komprehensif. Produk buku yang disusun telah ditelaah oleh pakar materi, ahli media, dan penimbang bahasa, dan memperoleh kategori sangat layak dengan persentase penilaian masing-masing 86,67%, 93,33%, dan 90%. Umpan balik dari peserta didik turut menunjukkan bahwa buku ini mudah dipergunakan, dengan tingkat kepraktisan mencapai 72,72%. Peningkatan hasil belajar terlihat melalui rerata gain sebesar 0,4174 dan nilai uji-t 8,92, yang menegaskan bahwa buku ini mampu memperkuat pemahaman matematis secara lebih kontekstual. Secara menyeluruh, buku berorientasi PBL tersebut terbukti sahih, aplikatif, dan berdaya guna sebagai alternatif sumber belajar dalam pembelajaran matematika.

Abstract

This study was undertaken to ascertain the extent of the association between learning interest and mathematics achievement among eighth-grade students on the topic of proportion at SMP Negeri 21 Kota Bengkulu. The researcher employed a quantitative paradigm with a correlational design. A cohort of 28 students was designated as the sample through purposive sampling. Data were amassed using a learning-interest questionnaire adapted from Herdiyanto (2019) and a mathematics achievement test. The analytical procedure encompassed both descriptive and inferential statistics, preceded by prerequisite examinations comprising normality and linearity tests, followed by Pearson’s correlation analysis. The findings revealed that learning interest exhibits a remarkably strong and statistically significant nexus with students’ mathematics outcomes (r = 0.971; p < 0.05). These results underscore that learning interest contributes substantially to students’ academic attainment in the topic of proportion. Consequently, the study advocates that educators intensify strategies aimed at cultivating students’ learning interest to bolster their academic performance.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the critical thinking skills of seventh-grade students in solving word problems on algebra material from a gender perspective. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The research subjects consisted of 29 seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 20 Bengkulu City, with five students selected as the main subjects based on their level of critical thinking skills and gender representation. Data collection techniques included written tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles and Huberman model which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.Findings reveal that, in aggregate, the learners’ mathematical critical-reasoning acuity resides at a middling tier, with 38% situated within the exceptionally high category, 48% classified as high, 7% occupying the moderate bracket, and 7% falling into the rudimentary level. Learners within the exceptionally high tier demonstrated the ability to articulate explanations with exactitude, adopt appropriate problem-solving stratagems, and procure accurate solutions. Conversely, those in the high category exhibited comprehension of algebraic notions yet were occasionally inattentive in executing procedural sequences. Students within the moderate classification manifested misjudgements in selecting suitable solution pathways, whereas those in the rudimentary group encountered impediments in deciphering essential information and constructing mathematical representations, often resorting to conjectural responses. The gender-oriented appraisal indicated the presence of stylistic and strategic discrepancies between male and female students in confronting problem-solving tasks, although such distinctions did not exert a substantive influence on their overall critical-reasoning competence. Broadly considered, this study accentuates the necessity of fortifying algebraic conceptualisation and sustaining systematic problem-solving practice as a means of enhancing learners’ critical-thinking aptitude.

Abstract

Penelitian ini diarahkan untuk mengkaji sejauh mana kecemasan matematis memengaruhi kemampuan representasi matematis peserta didik pada materi Teorema Pythagoras, terutama pada bentuk representasi visual dan simbolik. Kajian ini memakai pendekatan kuantitatif dengan rancangan ex post facto. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 27 siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 21 Kota Bengkulu yang ditentukan melalui teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan meliputi kuesioner kecemasan matematis serta tes representasi matematis, yang keduanya telah melalui proses validasi isi oleh ahli dan pengujian reliabilitas menggunakan Cronbach Alpha. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif, uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, serta regresi linear sederhana. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kecemasan matematis siswa berada pada kategori sedang hingga tinggi, sedangkan capaian representasi matematis berada pada kategori sedang. Uji regresi menghasilkan nilai F sebesar 19,792 dengan tingkat signifikansi 0,000 dan nilai koefisien determinasi (R²) sebesar 0,442. Artinya, kecemasan matematis memberikan kontribusi sebesar 44,2% terhadap variasi kemampuan representasi matematis siswa. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa peningkatan kecemasan matematis berkorelasi dengan penurunan kemampuan siswa dalam membangun representasi visual maupun simbolik. Oleh sebab itu, pengelolaan kecemasan matematis menjadi aspek penting untuk ditingkatkan guna memperbaiki kualitas representasi matematis peserta didik.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a mathematics concept book based on Problem Based Learning (PBL) on the subject of probability and to test its validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The research method uses the Plomp development model, which includes the stages of initial investigation, prototype development, and evaluation. The results of expert validation show that the mathematics concept book is highly valid, with a percentage of 86.67% for the material, 93.33% for the media, and 90% for the language. The practicality test on 11 students resulted in a score of 72.72%, which indicates that the concept book is practical. The effectiveness of the module was evident from the improvement in learning outcomes with an average N-Gain score of 0.4174 in the moderate category, and the t-test showed a significant improvement (t = 8.92; p < 0.05). Thus, the PBL-based module was declared valid, practical, and effective in improving the understanding of probability concepts and supporting more contextual learning.

Abstract

This.study.aims.to.produce.a.Problem.Based.Learning. (PBL) .based.mathematics.concept book.on.the.topic.of.algebra.to.improve students’ understanding of algebraic operations. The.method used-is-Research-and-Development- (R&D) -with-the-Plomp-model, -which-consists of three main phases: initial investigation, prototype-development, -and-assessment. The-validation-results-show that the book falls into-the- “very-valid” -category-with scores-of 86.67% from material experts, 93.33% from media experts, and 90% from language experts. Student responses-indicate-a-practicality level of 72.72% (practical). Meanwhile, the learning outcomes show an average score of 71.18, indicating the effectiveness of the book in helping students understand algebraic concepts. Thus, the PBL-based mathematics concept book developed is declared valid, practical, and effective as an alternative teaching material for algebra learning at the junior high school level.

Abstract

Rendahnya kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa SMP masih menjadi permasalahan utama dalam pembelajaran matematika, yang ditandai dengan rendahnya minat belajar, kesulitan memahami konteks soal, serta hasil belajar yang belum optimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran berbasis STEM dan pembelajaran konvensional. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain komparatif. Sampel penelitian terdiri atas 58 siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 18 Kota Bengkulu, yang terbagi menjadi kelas eksperimen (29 siswa) dan kelas kontrol (29 siswa). Instrumen penelitian berupa tes kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis yang diberikan pada tahap pretest dan posttest. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa pada kelas yang menggunakan pembelajaran berbasis STEM lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan kelas yang menggunakan pembelajaran konvensional. Rata-rata nilai siswa pada kelas eksperimen meningkat dari 61,24 menjadi 75,44, sedangkan pada kelas kontrol meningkat dari 67,58 menjadi 72,48. Hasil uji hipotesis menggunakan uji-t menunjukkan bahwa nilai lebih besar dari , sehingga terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kedua kelompok. Dengan demikian, pembelajaran berbasis STEM lebih efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa SMP dibandingkan pembelajaran konvensional.
