One hundred randomly selected students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at PGRI University of Palembang served as the research subjects. Digital literacy questionnaires with indicators for managing, generating, integrating, assessing, and accessing information were used to gather data. The correlation product moment used for instrument validation with the outcomes of every questionnaire item is significant (Sig. < 0.05). Positive Pearson correlation and instrument reliability, as measured by Alpha Cronbach's values of 0.750 > 0.50, indicate the validity and reliability of the instrument. A descriptive analysis is performed on the data to find the percentage of each indication. The findings demonstrated that 80% of indicators fell into the essential skills category for information access, 75% of indicators fell into the management category, 74% of indicators fell into evaluation, 73% of indicators fell into integration, 60% of indicators fell into the insufficient skills category, and 70% of indicators fell into communication. These findings demonstrate that PGRI University of Palembang prospective teacher candidates' digital literacy profiles included markers of information creation. Abstract

This study aims to instill the values of character education in strengthening the culture of digital literacy for teenagers at State Vocational Schools in Palembang City. This research uses educational, historical, and sociological approaches where research data is sourced from primary and secondary data from literature or reference books and documents as supporting data. The researchers were the essential instruments, and they then developed new instruments, namely observation guidelines, interview guidelines, and documentation. All three are used to collect data in the field. For this study, two main factors play a vital role in the reinforcement of the results of the data analysis study: supporting factors and inhibiting factors. The results of this study indicate that the values of character education in strengthening the culture of digital literacy, which are carried out at State Vocational Schools in Palembang City, are still shallow, even though there are 15 minutes of extensive reading movements which are carried out every day but this is due to the lack of time allotted for the implementation of literacy culture. The character values instilled in students are bright, honest, responsible, disciplined, and caring.

Abstract

Despite being largely regarded as a foreign language; English plays an undeniably significant part in Palembang's economy and educational system. Contrarily, research reveals that English proficiency among Palembang pupils’ declines. This article details a study that looked at how much EFL English majors at PGRI Palembang University improved their ability to write argumentative essays after being subjected to genre-based writing exercises with their writing instructors. The findings showed that students consistently struggled to criticize or refute opposing viewpoints and come up with more powerful rebuttals, even after being exposed to the preparation of genre-based argumentative essays. However, they were able to demonstrate development in their ability to recognize the rhetorical structures (genres) and lexicon-grammatical characteristics of the full argumentative essay. The strategy received favourable feedback from the participants. The paired sample t-test also revealed that students' post-intervention argumentative texts significantly outperformed their pre-intervention drafts. It is commonly accepted that students may regulate the linguistic aspects of the type of text with a specific communicative aim and comfortably enhance their writing skills by studying through a genre-based approach to writing. The consequences for teaching writing in an EFL setting are demonstrated in this essay. Additionally, it urges the adoption of a genre approach in EFL writing classes.

Abstract

English for Specific Purposes (ESP) has become a crucial component in tourism higher education as the industry increasingly demands graduates who are communicatively competent, professionally confident, and interculturally aware. This article aims to provide a descriptive analysis of current trends, identify key gaps, and propose future directions in ESP curriculum design within tourism higher education. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study synthesizes relevant literature on ESP, tourism education, and curriculum development to map prevailing pedagogical practices and conceptual challenges. The findings indicate that contemporary ESP tourism curricula have shown a positive movement toward speaking-oriented, task-based, and performance-driven instruction that reflects the needs of workplace communication. However, significant gaps persist between students’ linguistic competence and their readiness to perform professional communication in authentic tourism contexts. These gaps are primarily attributed to the limited integration of industry-based service scenarios, psychological readiness factors such as confidence and willingness to communicate, and the development of intercultural competence. The discussion highlights the need to reconceptualize ESP tourism not merely as linguistic pedagogy, but as professional communication pedagogy that emphasizes service-oriented discourse, authentic tasks, and learner readiness. This article concludes that a holistic ESP tourism curriculum, integrating linguistic, psychological, cultural, and professional dimensions, is essential to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world tourism communication. The study offers conceptual implications for curriculum designers and educators and recommends future empirical research across diverse local and global tourism contexts to further validate and refine ESP tourism curriculum models.
