Abstract

Hypertension is a major global challenge, contributing to the burden of heart disease, stroke and kidney failure, as well as causing early death and disability. This study was to determine the effect of progressive muscle relaxation on blood pressure stability in hypertension patients. The method used was a quasi-experimental pre-and post-test group design without a control group. The sample was 35 hypertension patients using a consecutive sampling technique data analysis using the paired t-test. Participants were excluded if they were receiving other treatments for hypertension or had musculoskeletal conditions, such as joint diseases or fractures, while those who had a history of hypertension within the previous 12 months, were not taking antihypertensive medication, and were not undergoing any other therapeutic interventions were included. Based on the results of the bivariate analysis, it was found that there was an effect of progressive muscle relaxation on the stability of blood pressure in hypertension patients (P value = 0.000 <0.05). Conclusions: Progressive muscle relaxation can reduce tension in the body, and increase the relaxation response. When the body feels the relaxation response, it will slow down the heart rate so that pumping blood throughout the body becomes effective and blood pressure decreases.

Abstract

elderly. Various interventions are needed by the elderly to overcome the decline in mobility related to age. The purpose of this study is to identify the effectiveness of stretching exercise on the quality of life and functional status of the elderly with type 2 diabetes mellitus. test group design with one intervention group. The total sample in this study was 30 elderly with type 2 diabetes. The sample was taken using a consecutive sampling technique. The intervention given was stretching exercise for 4 weeks. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test statistical test showed that there was a difference between before and after the stretching exercise intervention on the functional status of the elderly, quality of life, general health dimensions, physical health, and social with a p-value (p=0.00), but there is no relationship on the psychological health and environmental dimension. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that stretching exercises can improve physical fitness, muscle mass and joint flexibility which have an impact on functional status and quality of life of the elderly. It is hoped that stretching exercise can be used as one nursing independent treatment to improve the quality of life of and increasing the independence of the elderly through the provision of education and regular physical exercise.

Abstract

First aid in emergencies is an essential skill that must be possessed by nursing students as prospective health workers. Educational media in the form of practical guidebooks is believed to be able to improve students' knowledge and skills, but their effectiveness needs to be proven empirically. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the educational media of the Emergency First Aid Guide in improving the knowledge and skills of Basic Life Assistance (BHD) for nursing students. The research design used was pre-experimental with a one group pretest-posttest design approach. The research sample consisted of nursing students selected through purposive sampling techniques. The research instruments include a knowledge questionnaire and a BHD skill observation sheet. Data analysis was carried out by the normality test and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a significant improvement in respondents' knowledge from an average of M: 12; SD ± 2.52 to M: 17; SD ± 1.55 (Z = -7.789; p = 0.00), as well as an improvement in BHD skills from M: 83; SD ± 9 to M: 99; SD ± 10.2 (Z = -7.789; p = 0.00). These findings show that educational media in the form of handbooks is effective in improving the ability of nursing students to deal with emergency situations. This media can be used as an alternative strategy in emergency nursing learning to support students' clinical readiness.

Abstract

Active community activities can help keep the beach clean. As members of the community, beach visitors must also participate in beach cleaning, such as throwing rubbish in its place. Beach cleanliness that is not maintained will result in environmental pollution and can cause disease. The aim of this community service activity is to maintain beach cleanliness and raise awareness among the public and beach visitors about the benefits of beach cleanliness. The activity implementation method consists of three stages, namely the preparation, implementation and evaluation stages. As a result of the activities, the beach environment is clean, beautiful and there is no longer the smell of accumulated rubbish. It is hoped that the local community and visitors will always maintain the cleanliness of the beach.
