Abstract

Bait technology is the most effective, safe, and environmentally friendly way to termite control. This method was done by utilize attractants which have properties or aromas and able to invite termites to eat the bait. M. leucadendra leaves potentially used as an attractant. The matrix of bait material used as attractant to termites should contain high cellulose compound.. HVS paper and cardboard are materials with high cellulose compound, so they can used as bait. The aim of this study was to examine the efficacy of bait from M. leucadendra leaf mixture with waste paper to subterranean termites (Coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren) and to determine the optimal composition of the mixture of waste paper and M. leucadendra leaves which can be used as bait against termites. Tests are carried out with 2 methods, namely no choice test and multiple choice test. No-choice test was done by forced feeding, which was only one test sample in the test cup, with 55 termites (50 workers caste and 5 soldiers caste). Multiple choice test was done by giving food choices, which are all test samples for each composition in the test cup, with 165 termites (150 workers caste and 15 soldiers caste). The parameters observed were the weight loss of bait and mortality of termites. The results shows that the bait of the mixture of M. leucadendra leaves and paper waste in the no choice test and multiple choice test was effective used as bait to termites. Mixture of M. leucadendra: cardboard (60%: 40%) is the best composition bait for Subterranean C. curvignathus.Keyword: Baiting method, bioattractant, Coptotermes curvignathus, M. leucadendra leaves, wastepaper

Abstract

Proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus) is an endemic animal of Borneo including protected primate species as an endangered species status. This species listed as an endangered species caused by large population decline and habitat demage continues to threaten the proboscis population. This research was conducted in Taman Wisata Alam Tanjung Belimbing (TWATB) is a nature conservation area that supports the conservation of proboscis monkey. The purpose of this research is to collect the amount of proboscis monkey populations, so as to provide an overview of conservation efforts that must be carried out. The method was used the River Survey method. The result of Proboscis research based on the age level was found consisted average of 5 adult male individuals, 6 adult female individuals, 7 adolescent individuals and 5 childs. Estimation of the population is calculated using the King’s Method. Estimated individuals population is 12 individuals with a density of 25.5 individuals/km2.Keywords: Proboscis monkey, Population, Tanjung Belimbing, Paloh.

Abstract

Proboscis monkey feeding activity is activity associated with the fulfillment of the energy needed to maintain the viability of the proboscis. Such activity includes search activity feed, feed selection, behavioral feed entering into the mouth, chewing and swallowing followed. Proboscis is the dominant species, which means folivora feed on the leaves, but sometimes also can feed on flowers and fruit on a small scale. The purpose of this study was to record the feeding activity in Mangrove Forest Village proboscis monkeys Nipah Panjang Batu Ampar District of West Kalimantan using focal animal research methods of sampling and analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis. The results showed proboscis start feeding activity at 05.00 pm with pemuncakan time at 07.00 pm and 15. 00 pm to feeding behavior that is looking for a large tree limb then sat down and took this feed by way of picking and pulling. The position of the male proboscis monkey eating is always the top and back while females move proboscis at the front leading the group movements during foraging. Percentage feeding activity on the proboscis male is larger than the proboscis females is 33% while the proboscis females is 31% while for the type of feed, there are 7 species of plants which feed the proboscis with the plant is the most widely consumed is leafs Keywords: Proboscis Monkey, Feeding Activities, Behavior, Type of Feed, Nipah Panjang

Abstract

Indonesia as a tropical country has a fairly extensive natural forest with various types and natural conditions, as well as a fairly considerable species diversity . Such conditions provide an ideal habitat for the growth of a variety of flora and fauna . Indonesia’s forest are being exploited on an extensive scale, many trees with high economic values have been cut down or cleared for plantations, both for domestic needs and developed further, as only a small portion of it is managed i.e. the infrastructure . The Gunung Sari urban forest has a lot of potential that needs to be explored and untilized, one of which is the pulai (Alstonia scholaris) . Therefore, it is necessary to condust research to find  out the distribution pulai (Alstonia scholaris) population in the area of the Gunung Sari urban forest of Singkawang city . This study aimed to find out the distribution the Pulai (Alstonia scholaris) population found in the Gunung Sari urban forest of Singkawang, West Kalimantan . The method used in the this research was the line plot technique which is a combination of transect and double plots . The results of observations indicated the pulai plant that grew in the area of the Gunung Sari urban forest of Singkawang had a clustered distribution patterns for all levels growth (seedling, sapling , pole and tree). Abstract

Ulin (Eusideroxylon zwageri) is a species of wood with high economic value that is difficult to find in the wild. Regeneration of E. zwageri is naturally very slow. Efforts to increase the procurement of E. zwageri seedlings can be done with a tissue culture technique. Through tissue culture, the seeds obtained will be uniform, have better quality and faster. This study aims to determine the effect and optimum concentration of IAA and BAP growth regulators on E. zwageri explants growth. The method used is experimental using a completely randomized design. Treatment factors are IAA concentration factor with 5 levels of treatment (0 mg/L, 0.5 mg/L, 1 mg/L, 1.5 mg/L, and 2 mg/L) and BAP concentration of 5 treatment levels (0 mg/L, 1 mg/L, 2 mg/L, 3 mg/L, and 4 mg/L). Each treatment was repeated 3 times. The results showed that the treatment of IAA concentration, BAP concentration and the interaction of IAA and BAP concentration affected the swelling of explants and growth of E. zwageri callus. The best concentration for callus explants was IAA of 2 mg/L and BAP of 0 mg/L, with a time of 12-13 weeks after planting. Keywords: BAP, E. zwageri, IAA, Tissue Culture
