Abstract

Crown flower (Calotropis gigantea (L.)) is a weed plant potentially to be used as raw material for textile fibers yet the utilization is not optimal. Efforts to optimize the utilization of C. gigantea are needed. This research aimed to determine the appropriate concentration of plant growth regulators, including NAA (Naphthalene Acetic Acid) and BA (Benzyl Adenine) to stimulate optimal growth of C. gigantea to be used as the basis for in vitro propagation of C. gigantea. The research was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD). Explants were planted on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium with various concentrations of NAA (0; 0.5; 1; 1.5; and 2 ppm) and BA (0; 1; 2; 3; and 4 ppm). Based on the research result, the addition of 3 ppm BA followed by increasing the concentration of NAA to 1.5 ppm could increase the number of C. gigantea shoots, and giving 1 ppm BA followed by adding 1.5 to 2 ppm NAA increased shoot height. The best plantlet response was found in media with 0 ppm NAA and 4 ppm BA, which could produce an optimal shoot height of 5.9 cm and a large number of shoots of 5.67 shoots. Increasing NAA concentration retarded root formation and reduced the root length and number of leaves, while the medium without NAA gave the earliest root emergence of 11 days after planting, the number of leaves of 20 strands, and the longest root of 10.9 cm. Applying a single substance BA did not accelerate all the variables observed.

Abstract

Abstrak Desa Kebakalan, Kecamata Karanggayam, Kabupaten Kebumen, Provinsi Jawa Tengah menjadi salah satu desa yang banyak memiliki peternak sapi. Permasalahan yang dihadapi masyarakat peternak adalah minimnya pemahaman dan keterampilan peternak dalam pengelolaan limbah kotoran sapi. Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah mewujudkan Desa Kebakalan Kabupaten Kebumen sebagai desa mandiri bioenergi biogas sehingga kesejahteraan masyarakatnya meningkat. Kegiatan dilaksanakan di Desa Kebakalan Kabupaten Kebumen dengan peserta adalah peternak sapi yang berjumlah 78 peternak. Kegiatan dilaksanakan selama enam bulan yaitu bulan Januari sampai Juni 2024. Pelaksanaan dilakukan dengan menggunakan tiga tahapan yiatu persiapan, pelaksaan, dan evaluasi. Pelaksanaan memfokuskan kepada penggunaan IPTEK dalam melakukan pengelolaan limbah kotoran sapi.  Selain itu dilakukan pula (1) instruksional dan dialog melalui kegiatan program penyuluhan menggunakan teknik FGD (Focus Group Disscusion) disertai dengan evaluasi kemajuan tingkat pengetahuan dan pemahaman materi, (2) pelatihan dengan peragaan pembuatan digester biogas skala rumah tangga dan produksi biogas, (3) metode percontohan pembuatan dan penerapan penggunaan biogas skala rumah tangga, (4) monitoring dan evaluasi berkelanjutan. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa peternak memiliki pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam pemanfaatan dan pengelolaan limbah kotoran sapi menjadi energi biogas. Kata kunci: absorber; biodigester; biogas; limbah kotoran sapi Abstract The village of Kebakalan, located in the Karanggayam Subdistrict, Kebumen Regency, Central Java Province, is one of the villages with a significant number of cattle farmers .The issue faced by livestock farmers is their limited understanding and skills in managing cow manure waste. The purpose of this community service program is to make Kebakalan Village in Kebumen Regency an independent bioenergy biogas village, thereby improving the welfare of its community. The program is carried out in Kebakalan Village, Kebumen Regency, with participants being cattle farmers there are 78 cattle farmers. The activities will be conducted over six months, from January to June 2024. The implementation includes three stages: preparation, execution, and evaluation. The focus is on utilizing science and technology in managing cow manure waste. In addition, the program includes (1) instructional and dialog sessions through extension programs using Focus Group Discussion (FGD) techniques, accompanied by evaluations of participants' knowledge and understanding progress, (2) training on household-scale biogas digester construction and biogas production, (3) demonstration of household-scale biogas production and application, and (4) ongoing monitoring and evaluation. The results indicate that farmers gained knowledge and skills in utilizing and managing cow manure waste into biogas energy. Keywords: absorber; biodigester; biogas; cow manure waste

Abstract

Soybeans, a legume widely consumed in Indonesia, exhibit a comparatively low production rate. Therefore, initiatives to augment soybean production are essential, one of which is the utilization of biochar. Biochar has been extensively studied as a soil amendment that improves soil fertility and promotes plant growth. This study aimed to evaluate the physiological responses of soybean varieties to different types of biochar. The experiment used a factor randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The factor was three soybean varieties (Dena 1, Demas 1, and Gepak Kuning) and three biochar treatments (control, palm fibre, and rice hull). Data were analysed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level. Results indicated that rice hull biochar improved net assimilation and relative growth rates by 1.95% and 1.59%, respectively, between the third and fifth weeks after planting. It also increased total dry weight by 1.37% and leaf area index by 1.72% compared to untreated plants. Among the varieties tested, Dena 1 yielded the highest total dry weight (1.41%) and leaf area index (1.53%), highlighting a promising synergy between this variety and rice hull biochar. These findings demonstrate that biochar type and soybean variety interact to determine physiological responses, suggesting that appropriate combinations may improve soybean productivity and resilience under field conditions.

Abstract

The continuous use of chemical fertilizers can reduce nutrient absorption efficiency and contribute to gas emissions that trigger global warming. One solution to increase nutrient absorption efficiency is to use nano fertilizers. This study aims to evaluate the effect of organic NPK nano fertilizer application on shallot yield. The research was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) arranged in a factorial design, consisting of two treatment factors with 12 treatment combinations repeated three times. Fertilization of shallot plants by applying nano NPK fertilizers up to a dose of Nitrogen 220, Phosphorus 160, and Potassium 120 kg/ha can increase the growth variables of shallot plants. The best results were obtained in the Crok Kuning variety with nano fertilizer doses of Nitrogen 220, Phosphorus 160, Potassium 120 kg/ha, and the Tajuk variety with nano fertilizer doses of Nitrogen 160, Phosphorus 100, Potassium 60 kg/ha, which produced the optimal number of tubers. However, in both Crok Kuning and Tajuk varieties, the application of nano NPK fertilizers did not have a significant effect on plant fresh weight, leaf area index, specific leaf area, relative growth rate, tuber weight per plant, and tuber diameter. Further research can be conducted with the method of fertilizer application through the leaves and using different varieties.

Abstract

Extended use of synthetic chemical fertilizers may degrade soil quality. As a synthetic chemical fertilizer substitute, organic fertilizer can improve soil quality, produce healthier agricultural products, and be environmentally sustainable. Thus, coffee grounds liquid organic fertilizer may solve this problem. This study examines how liquid organic fertilizer made from coffee grounds affects land kale's physiological and growth characteristics. A fully randomized experimental design with one factor and 11 treatments was used. A control group, NPK-16-16-16 4 g, and Arabica, Robusta, and Liberica coffee were treated with three concentrations (4 mL.L-1, 12 mL.L-1, and 20 mL.L-1). Four replicates were run for each treatment. The investigation found that coffee ground liquid organic fertilizer does not meet Minister of Agriculture Decree 261/KPTS/SR.310/M/4/2019 criteria. Compared to the control group, liquid organic fertilizer made from coffee grounds did not increase land kale growth. Additionally, it did not grow as well as with NPK16-16-16 fertilizer. Coffee grinds liquid organic fertilizer only enhances kale growing on land, promoting sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

Shallot is a high-value horticultural commodity. Its productivity often declines due to suboptimal soil conditions, such as low pH and imbalanced nutrient availability, especially when cultivated off-season. This study aimed to determine the optimal combination of dolomite and NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium) fertilizer for the growth and yield of shallot cultivated in the off-season. The research was conducted in Ngringo Village, Jaten District, Karanganyar Regency from February-April 2025. The method used was a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors and three replications. The first factor was dolomite doses (0; 2000; and 4000 kg.ha-1) and NPK fertilizer doses (250; 375; and 500 kg.ha-1). Observed parameters were plant height, number of leaves, fresh and dry biomass weight, fresh and dry bulb weight, number of bulbs per plant, and bulb diameter. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a 95% significance level and continued with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) with 95% significance level when significant differences were found. The results showed no significant interaction between dolomite and NPK fertilizer on shallot growth and yield. Dolomite at 2000 kg.ha-1 significantly increased the number of leaves, while NPK fertilizer had no significant effect. However, 250 kg.ha-1 of NPK fertilizer produced similar results to higher doses, indicating potential fertilizer efficiency. Environmental conditions such as high humidity and low light intensity likely influenced treatment effectiveness.

Abstract

Zodia are included in medicinal plants because it contains secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, steroids/triterpenoids that have many benefit and also as mosquito repellents. The growth and content of secondary metabolites in plants can be affected by environmental factors such as water availability. Research on the cultivation of this crop is still limited. Environmental modification in cultivation is needed to increase its secondary metabolites, and the study of the potential of this plant as medicine are necessary. This study aimed to determine the effect of water availability on the growth and secondary metabolites of zodia. The research was carried out in July-November 2021 in Greenhouse, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta. The method used was a completely randomized design, one treatment factor with 4 levels namely, 100, 80, 60 and 40% of field capacity. Each treatment was repeated 6 times so that there were 24 experimental polybags. The data analysis used is Analysis of Variance, and the Duncan’s Multiple Range Test at the 5% level. The results showed that the availability of water at a level of 60% field capacity gave the best average growth parameters (plant height and number of leaves) among other treatments. The flavonoid content in each treatment showed the same average. The results of the GCMS (Gas Cromatography and Mass Spectroscopy) test of zodia leaves showed that there were dominant bioactive compounds, namely ethylbenzene, octadecamethyl cyclononasiloxane, pentadecanoid acid and heptadecanoid acid. It is suspected that the content of these compounds has the potential as antifungal, antibacterial, antioxidant and anticancer.

Abstract

Biduri (Calotropis gigantea) was a plant with several benefits, namely as a medicinal plant and textile material. Biduri was a wild plant that could grow in various types of soil conditions. The existence of biduri was still not fully utilized by many people. So it was necessary to develop the cultivation technology of Biduri to take advantage of this plant. This research was conducted at the field laboratory of Jumantono, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Karanganyar, and used a factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD), which consisted of 2 factors, namely organic liquid fertilizer from livestock waste and mycorrhizae. Livestock waste liquid fertilizer consists of 40ml/kg soil cow urine, 40ml/kg soil goat urine, 40ml/kg soil rabbit urine, and 40ml/kg soil fish waste. Mycorrhizae consisted of 0 grams/plant, 5 grams/plant, 10gram/plant, and 15gram/plant. There were 20 treatment combinations repeated 3 times, so the total was 60 treatment combinations. The interaction between livestock waste liquid fertilizer and mycorrhizae did not significantly affect all the physiological observation variables. The results showed that the application of livestock waste liquid fertilizer had no significant effect on all observations of physiological variables. Giving mycorrhizae shows that it can increase the number of stomata and the width of stomata aperture.

Abstract

This research aims to obtain morphological character of Matoa (Pometia pinnata JR Forst & G Forst) plant. This research had been conducted from April to October 2021, in 5 Regency (Karanganyar, Klaten, Pati, Sukoharjo, and Surakarta) Central Java. The morphological characther based on direct observation through primary and secondary data recording, and documenting parts of an adult matoa plant with purposive random sampling. Data of morphological characterization of matoa was analyzed using descriptive analysis method with assistance of Ntsys v2.02i program. The results showed a morphological diversity of matoa plant accessions. Fifty (50) matoa accessions exhibit morphological diversity in plant height, canopy diameter, stem circumference, branching type, leaf colour, number of leaflets, compound leaf length, compound leaf petiole length, leaflet width, fruit density, fruit length, fruit weight, seed weight, and fruit skin colour.
