Abstract

Polewali Mandar Regency comprises 16 sub-districts, with the most significant administrative area being Tubbi Taramanu Sub-district, which is one reason this region remains less "touched" by the local government. One of the main agricultural products of the residents of Tubbi Taramanu Sub-district is upland rice with a yield of 3.97 tons.ha–1 in 2023. However, this yield, compared with other major food crops, is still much lower than that of cassava, paddy, and corn. One effort to reduce harvest loss, especially for dryland rice, is to implement good harvesting practices and technology, as well as good post-harvest handling and technology, thereby ensuring that low productivity can still guarantee stable food availability for the residents of Tubbi Taramanu Sub-district, especially in Pollewani Village. This community service activity was implemented through extension services, which included providing materials and facilitating interactive discussions. The counseling sessions were evaluated using questionnaires administered before and after the sessions. The evaluation results showed an increase in farmers' knowledge, as evidenced by the average participant score rising from 45.88 to 62.94.

Abstract

Majene Regency, West Sulawesi, is a region with dry agro-climate characteristics that are challenging for the growth of horticultural crops such as eggplant. The decline in eggplant productivity in West Sulawesi is suspected to be due to dependence on synthetic chemical fertilizers that damage soil structure and are not adaptive to dry land conditions. Based on sustainable agriculture theory, dry goat manure is considered an alternative organic fertilizer rich in macronutrients and granular texture that supports soil aeration and drainage. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of direct use of dry goat manure as a base fertilizer to increase eggplant plant growth using a field experiment method consisting of five dry goat manure dosage treatments: K0 = Control, K1 = 208g/Polybag, K2 = 416g/Polybag, K3 = 624g/Polybag, K4 = 832g/Polybag. The results showed that the K3 treatment had a significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, and stem diameter compared to all other treatments. The novelty of the study lies in the approach of direct use of dry goat manure without a modern fermentation process, which is considered more practical and efficient for local farmers. This finding opens up opportunities for optimizing livestock waste as an environmentally friendly agricultural input, while also addressing agronomic challenges in dry land areas such as Majene. This study recommends the use of dry goat manure as a base fertilizer in horticultural cultivation in dry areas.

Abstract

Kata kunci: kambing; urine; POC AbstractThis community service project was carried out in collaboration with the Millennial Farmers Group located in Lalampanua Village, Pamboang Subdistrict, Majene Regency. The challenges faced by the group in terms of technology include the fact that almost every farming household owns goats, but waste management remains a serious issue. Goat urine is often regarded as a nuisance and disposed of without proper treatment. The methods and stages in applying technology to the community began with conducting a survey around the farmer group's location. Based on the survey results, we determined the most urgent needs of the community that required innovative solutions. After obtaining the survey results in the field, a socialization of the activity plan was conducted. The next step involves conducting outreach, designing training programs, and preparing the tools and materials to be used. In general, this activity provides information to members of the farming and livestock group that livestock waste can be utilized to produce liquid organic fertilizer for plants, thereby reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and minimizing environmental pollution around the farm. This also presents an opportunity for members of the livestock group to increase their income. Keywords: goat; urine; LOF
