Abstract

This community service project was conducted in Persiapan Empol Village, Sekotong District, West Lombok Regency, to enhance the knowledge and skills of local communities in mud crab (Scylla spp.) farming using the apartment system and recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). The village is rich in natural resources, particularly in fisheries, but limited knowledge has been a major obstacle in developing aquaculture practices. The method used in this project was a demonstration plot involving 15 members of the "Sopoq Angen" mud crab farming group. The activities included constructing an apartment system from used jerry cans, installing RAS, and monitoring water quality and crab growth over 3 months. The results showed a significant improvement in the partners' understanding and skills, with crab survival rates reaching 96% and good growth in body weight. The apartment system and RAS proved effective in supporting the success of mangrove crab farming in this coastal area.

Abstract

Ornamental fish are one of the fishery commodities that continue to grow in Indonesia, with production increasing every year. Color is the most important factor that determine ornamental fish value in market. There are several factors that affect color of ornamental fish, genetics, fish health and the feed given. Astaxanthin, a type of carotenoid, plays an important role in the coloring of ornamental fish. It is known that astaxanthin can produce red colour on fish skin. Astaxanthin cannot be synthesized from within the fish’s body, so it requires external sources through feed. This article was written using a journal review method from several journal and was explained descriptively. The results of the article review obtained were that there are two sources of astaxanthin that are widely used today, namely chemical synthesis and extraction from natural materials. Synthetic astaxanthin has a more economical price but its bioactivity is lower than natural astaxanthin. Natural sources of astaxanthin can be obtained from the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis, crabs and shrimp. H. pluvialis is a natural source of astaxanthin with the highest content, which can be produced through cultures that are given stress such as changes in temperature and lighting. In addition, shrimp and crabs also accumulate astaxanthin in the body through the consumption of feed rich in carotenoids. Several studies have shown that giving astaxanthin in feed can significantly increase the brightness of the color in ornamental fish.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the efficiency and sustainability of whiteleg shrimp farming in Akar-akar Village, Bayan District, North Lombok Regency, through the application of digital technology. By involving the Akar-akar Utara shrimp farmer group, this program focuses on improving digital literacy of farmers and implementing the JALA application, which provides water quality monitoring, data analysis, and algorithm-based recommendations. The training results showed an increase in digital literacy of farmers from 30% to 85%. The use of this technology has proven effective in reducing shrimp mortality by 20%, increasing average harvest yields by 18%, and saving 10% on feed costs. In addition, the application of technology has also succeeded in reducing the risk of disease outbreaks, with no reports of white spot syndrome cases in pilot ponds. This program also improves operational efficiency, with pond monitoring time reduced from 4 hours to 1.5 hours per day. Although there are infrastructure constraints such as limited internet network, adaptive solutions through manual recording synchronized with the JALA application enable the sustainability of the program. Through collaboration between farmers, government, and the private sector, this program has a positive impact on increasing the productivity and welfare of farmers, and can be a model for the development of a sustainable aquaculture sector in Indonesia, supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Abstract

ABSTRAK Coastal environmental management has an important role in maintaining balance in terms of ecology, economy and society which is a source of life for coastal communities. Coastal areas often face pressure due to human activities in the form of environmental pollution which causes indiscriminate waste disposal and ecosystem degradation. Pemongkong Village, Jerowaru District, which is one of the coastal areas of East Lombok, has beaches including Ujung Betook Beach which is one of the environmental assets and sources of livelihood, both through the aquaculture, capture and tourism sectors. The problem of waste in coastal areas is increasing due to human activities, lack of good waste management, and minimal awareness of the importance of maintaining coastal cleanliness. One solution in managing the coastal environment is through a beach cleanup movement. Beach cleanup activities in several coastal areas show increasing concern and community participation in maintaining the coastal environment. This movement not only aims to clean up waste, but also to raise public awareness of the importance of maintaining coastal sustainability. This community service activity has two stages, namely the preparation stage and the implementation stage of the beach cleanup movement. The implementation stage in this activity uses a participation method. The community service activity went smoothly. Participants in this service consisted of all elements of the Ujung Betok community, ranging from children to adults. The waste found in this activity can be classified into three types, namely waste from coastal community activities, waste left by tourists, and natural waste such as tree branches. The majority of waste found from the three types of waste is inorganic waste in the form of plastic waste. Education related to types of waste and waste management is also provided as information and knowledge. The conclusion that can be drawn from this community service activity is that the community service activity went smoothly according to plan and information related to coastal management through the Ujung Betok beach cleanup movement has been received enthusiastically by participants.
