Abstract

Staring Bay is a semi-open bay that has a relatively large potential for fishery resources, so it is widely used by fishermen in South Konawe Regency to carry out capture fisheries activities. One of the fishing gear operated by fishermen is payang fishing gear. This fishing gear is operated to catch small pelagic fish. The purpose of this study was to determine the spatial and temporal patterns of fishing with Payang fishing gear in the waters of Staring Bay, South Konawe Regency. The research was conducted from December to January 2022 in the waters of Staring Bay, South Konawe Regency. The analytical method consists of catch composition analysis, CPUE analysis, correlation and determination analysis. Based on the research results, it was found that the fish catch was directly proportional to the distance from the fishing area. The distance of the fishing area that is far from land is 5.50 miles with a catch of 450.00 kg/trip, while the distance of the fishing area that is close to land is 3.35 miles with a catch of 82.50 kg/trip. Apart from that, fishing time also influences catch results, where the highest catch occurs in January reaching 211.91 kg/trip and the lowest catch occurs in December reaching 12.66 kg/trip.Keywords: Payang catch, spatial and temporal patterns, Staring Bay

Abstract

Sawapudo Village fishermen will benefit from this community service project because it will increase their awareness of fishing techniques that are less harmful to the environment. There is a lack of awareness among fishermen regarding the consequences of utilizing fishing gear that is harmful to the marine ecosystem, which is why this training is so crucial. Some of the methods that are utilized include lectures, hands-on field practice, and interactive and interactive conversations. Twenty fishermen participated in this exercise, which was carried out in conjunction with the administration of the community. The findings of the evaluation indicate that the participants have a better comprehension of the significance of marine conservation, the selection of fishing gear that is responsible for the environment, and the support of government rules that are associated with the management of sustainable fisheries populations. Through the use of participative and educational methods, this exercise demonstrates that the mentality of fishermen can be changed to become more responsible and sustainable in their fishing practices. Because of this, it is strongly suggested that training of this kind be maintained and carried out in other coastal locations that have features that are equivalent to those of the current area.

Abstract

Abstract

Kolono Bay waters are one of the waters in South Konawe Regency which has a large potential for fishery resources. One of the leading commodities in the waters of Kolono Bay is anchovy. Fishing activities in the waters of Kolono Bay still use the traditional fishing gear. The purpose of this study was to determine the number of catches based on catch per unit effort (CPUE) using a floating lift net. This research was carried out for three months from January - March 2019 in the waters of Kolono Bay, South Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The collection location consisted of 10 observations which were determined based on the existence of floating charts scattered in the areas of Lambangi Village and Puupi Village. Stations are set to represent the existence of charts in Kolono Bay. Time series data of catches, and the position of fishing areas are obtained through activities in the field with the help of GPS. The catches obtained were analyzed descriptively and presented in the form of tables and graphs. The catches obtained from each research sample were combined to analyze the average number of catches per station and the average number of catches per month then the catch was calculated for CPUE per station. The CPUE value is obtained from the comparison of catches with the number of trip charts. The results showed at station 5 the highest catches with an average CPUE value of 24.33 kg per hauling per month of catching close to the coast. Therefore, in the context of efficiency and optimization of results, it is recommended to place and operate charts around coastal waters.

Abstract

This research aims to increase the catch of traditional fishermen in Sambuli Village, Kendari City, by introducing and utilizing fishing aids such as coconut shell fish aggregating devices and artificial bait (jigs). The service method used is participatory action research (PAR) with the stages of socialization, training, field practice, and evaluation and mentoring. The results of the service show that coconut shell fish shelters are effective in concentrating fish, thus increasing catch productivity, while artificial bait helps to extend fishing time and location. Fishermen successfully adopted this technology independently, resulting in reduced operational costs and increased revenue. The participatory approach has proven effective in empowering fishing communities while also preserving aquatic resources. This research provides an innovative model that can be replicated for the sustainable development of traditional fisheries in other coastal regions.
