Abstract

The decline of petroleum reserves and environmental issues from petroleum-based lubricants have driven interest in biolubricants. Jatropha curcas L. oil is a promising candidate due to its availability and non-edible nature, but it lacks sufficient oxidative stability and thermal performance. This study aims to improve jatropha oil quality through in situ epoxidation. The research included oil extraction, initial chemical analysis (acid value, moisture, saponification value, iodine value), epoxidation with varied reactant ratios and reaction times, and post-modification tests of viscosity and flash point. Results indicated that oil yield from dehulled seeds was higher (60%) than hulled seeds (25%). Epoxidation improved viscosity from 2.39 cSt to 34.2 cSt at 40°C and raised the flash point from 109°C to 270°C. These enhancements demonstrate improved physicochemical properties, making epoxidized jatropha oil a potential eco-friendly lubricant comparable to modern synthetic lubricants.

Abstract

Permasalahan pengelolaan sampah di pesisir Pantai Hening Kertonsari berdampak pada kerusakan lingkungan, penurunan hasil perikanan, serta kesehatan dan ekonomi masyarakat. Kegiatan ini bertujuan meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat pesisir terhadap pengelolaan sampah melalui pendekatan edukatif dan partisipatif. Metode yang digunakan meliputi observasi, wawancara, sosialisasi, dan edukasi, serta pengumpulan data partisipasi warga secara kuantitatif. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan partisipasi bersih pantai sebesar 45% dan 80% responden memahami dampak jangka panjang pencemaran. Sosialisasi dan pelibatan aktif masyarakat terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan kesadaran akan pentingnya menjaga kebersihan dan kelestarian lingkungan pesisir. Kegiatan ini menjadi langkah awal yang konstruktif dalam menanggulangi pencemaran dan mewujudkan pengelolaan lingkungan pesisir yang berkelanjutan.

Abstract

UMKM berperan penting dalam perekonomian, namun masih terkendala pada pencatatan keuangan sederhana dan keterbatasan kapasitas produksi. Program pengabdian ini dilaksanakan pada UMKM Pie Ngalam Heritage melalui dua tahap, yaitu pelatihan digitalisasi pencatatan keuangan dan akuntansi dasar (11–13 Agustus 2025), serta pelatihan peningkatan kapasitas produksi menggunakan dough mixer kapasitas besar (6–9 September 2025). Metode kegiatan meliputi workshop interaktif, demonstrasi teknis, dan pendampingan. Hasil menunjukkan mitra mampu menerapkan pencatatan keuangan digital, menyusun laporan bulanan, dan memahami akuntansi dasar. Kapasitas produksi meningkat dari 70 pie/hari menjadi 250 pie/hari, atau naik sekitar 257%, dengan mutu lebih konsisten, sementara strategi pemasaran digital dan roadmap bisnis tersusun lebih terarah. Kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan daya saing UMKM serta mendukung pencapaian SDGs poin 8 dan IKU perguruan tinggi vokasi.

Abstract

The high unemployment rate among Vocational High School (SMK) graduates indicates a gap between graduates’ competencies and labor market demands, particularly in machining engineering. Vocational education also tends to emphasize technical skills without sufficient reinforcement of character and moral values. This community service activity aims to implement a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) e-module integrated with Pancasila values to enhance technical competencies while fostering students’ character development. The methods include needs analysis, e-module design, learning implementation, and evaluation. The analysis of pretest and posttest results shows a significant improvement, demonstrating the effectiveness of the e-module in improving CNC competencies and internalizing Pancasila values.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk memperoleh pendingin yang mampu menahan suhu operasi mesin lebih lama (suhu operasi mesin rendah) dan mengurangi emisi mesin. Pendingin radiator adalah pendingin yang biasanya digunakan pada radiator. Komponen ini berfungsi untuk mengontrol suhu di dalam mesin kendaraan agar tidak berlebihan karena dapat menyebabkan mesin panas berlebih dan merusak mesin mobil. Penggunaan air biasa atau air mineral tidak dapat memaksimalkan kinerja pendingin dalam mendinginkan mesin. Dalam penelitian ini metode yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimental untuk menguji apakah variabel eksperimen efektif atau tidak. Variabel Independen, variasi jenis cairan pendingin, Variabel Dependen, suhu kerja mesin dan emisi knalpot, Variabel Kontrol, suhu ruangan saat pengumpulan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa suhu kerja tertinggi diperoleh dengan menggunakan air suling dengan tingkat keasaman (pH) 6,32, yaitu 89,5 oC dan suhu kerja mesin terendah. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa suhu kerja tertinggi diperoleh dengan menggunakan air suling dengan tingkat keasaman (pH) 6,32, yaitu 89,5 oC, dan suhu kerja mesin terendah adalah dengan menggunakan cairan pendingin jenis Water coolant (pH 8,04) 85 oC. Penggunaan Water coolant (pH 8,04) sebagai cairan pendingin dapat mengurangi emisi gas buang CO sebesar 0,13%, HC sebesar 6,8 ppm, dan NOx sebesar 3,1 ppm. Kesimpulan yang diperoleh adalah bahwa suhu kerja mesin terendah diperoleh dengan menggunakan cairan pendingin jenis Water coolant dan dapat mengurangi emisi gas buang CO, HC, dan NOx.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the potential of castor oil (Jatropha curcas L.) as a plant-based alternative engine lubricant and compare it to commercial mineral-based lubricants. The research process includes drying Jatropha seeds and epoxidizing the oil using oxidizing agents (H₂O₂) and (CH₃COOH) with variations of (1:0.075; 1:0.15; 1:0.225; and 1:0.30). Chemical testing was conducted to analyze the acid number of the oil, while physical testing was carried out to measure its viscosity index, flash point, and pour point. The results show that Jatropha oil has an acid number of 5.30, a viscosity index of 217, a flash point of 270°C, and a pour point of 0°C. Therefore, Jatropha oil demonstrates potential as a base material for engine lubricants due to its relatively high flash point, which approaches that of polyol ester (POE)-based oils. However, further modification with additives is required to lower its pour point, ensuring it remains fluid in colder climates such as those in subtropical regions.

Abstract

Usaha mikro, kecil, dan menengah (UMKM) berperan penting dalam mendukung perekonomian daerah, terutama sektor kuliner yang membutuhkan efisiensi proses produksi. Warung Makan Watugedhe Singosari menghadapi kendala rendahnya efisiensi penghalusan bumbu karena masih menggunakan blender konvensional berkapasitas kecil. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan meningkatkan produktivitas mitra melalui penerapan mesin penghalus bumbu kapasitas 6 kg/proses. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi survei kebutuhan, perancangan dan pembuatan mesin, implementasi di lokasi mitra, serta pelatihan dan evaluasi hasil. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan kapasitas produksi hingga 1.100%, efisiensi waktu sebesar 65%, dan penghematan energi listrik 25%. Mitra juga mampu mengoperasikan dan merawat mesin secara mandiri. Penerapan teknologi tepat guna ini terbukti efektif meningkatkan efisiensi, produktivitas, dan kemandirian UMKM kuliner serta berpotensi direplikasi pada usaha sejenis di daerah lain.

Abstract

The motorcycle wheel shaft is a vital component that significantly impacts vehicle performance and rider safety. This study is motivated by the need to ensure an optimal wheel shaft design, considering its critical role in transmitting power, bearing loads, and maintaining the motorcycle's stability. The approach used in this research employs the Finite Element Method (FEM) through SolidWorks software to evaluate Von Mises stress, strain, and the factor of safety, with carbon steel a material known for its strength and corrosion resistance as the primary material. The analysis results reveal a maximum stress of 2.827x108 N/m², a maximum Displacement of 4.252x10-3 mm, and a minimum factor of safety of 5.111x102, indicating a reliable design. The study identifies critical areas prone to failure. Using a simulation-based approach, this research underscores the importance of FEM analysis in the development of safe and efficient mechanical components, contributing to enhanced performance and safety of vehicles.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of thermostat conditions on thermal stability and exhaust emission efficiency in a 1,300 cc inline 4-cylinder gasoline engine. The novelty of this research lies in the integrated evaluation of thermostat removal and thermostat failure on both engine temperature stability and combustion emissions under identical operating conditions. A quantitative experimental method was applied using three thermostat conditions: normal thermostat, without thermostat, and clogged/damaged thermostat. Cooling system temperature and exhaust emissions (CO, HC, and CO₂) were measured at idle speed (800–1000 rpm) for 10 minutes with 2-minute intervals. The data were analyzed using descriptive comparative statistical analysis. The results show that the normal thermostat maintained the most stable operating temperature, reaching 95.8°C at the 8th minute. In contrast, the engine without a thermostat experienced unstable temperature increases and reached 93.4°C at the 10th minute, while the clogged thermostat condition produced the highest temperature of 96.6°C, indicating overheating potential. Removing the thermostat increased CO emissions from 0.01% to 0.04% and HC emissions from 31.7 ppm to 52.3 ppm. These findings confirm that thermostat condition significantly affects engine thermal stability and combustion efficiency; therefore, thermostat removal is not recommended.
