Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (IRE) learning at State Vocational High School 1 Barumun is still predominantly conducted through lecture-based methods and the use of textbooks. As a result, it tends to be less engaging and less effective in enhancing students’ understanding of worship-related materials, which are both conceptual and practical in nature. The lack of active student involvement and the limited use of educational technology present significant challenges in the digital era, especially considering that today’s students are digital natives who respond more positively to interactive and technology-based media. Therefore, there is a need for innovative, technology-integrated learning media that align with their characteristics and support the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model, involving IRE teachers and Phase E students (Grade 10). The instruments used included observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and expert validations in content, media, and language. The results showed that the developed media was highly valid (95.48%), highly practical (95.50% from teachers and 82.45% from students), and moderately effective, with an average N-Gain of 63.96. Thus, the Quizizz-based digital learning media is considered suitable for improving students’ understanding and active engagement in Islamic Religious Education.

Abstract

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (IRE) learning at Majelis Taklim Ruhul Islam in Barumun is still dominated by lecture methods and textbook usage, making it less engaging and less effective in enhancing participants’ understanding—especially of worship-related material that is both conceptual and practical. Low participant involvement and the limited use of educational technology present major challenges, particularly for digital native learners who are more interested in interactive media. This study aims to develop a Quizizz-based digital learning media for worship material in IRE at SMK Negeri 1 Barumun, and to examine its validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The research employed the ADDIE development model with IRE teachers and tenth-grade students as subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and expert validation. Results showed the media’s validity at 95.48% (highly valid), practicality at 95.50% (teachers) and 82.45% (students), and effectiveness with an N-Gain of 63.96 (moderate category). The media effectively improves understanding and participation, and aligns with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This article critically analyzes the madrasah as a central institutional apparatus in the formation and development of Islamic education during the Abbasid period. Rather than functioning merely as sites of knowledge transmission, madrasahs operated as epistemic and socio-political institutions that shaped intellectual authority, religious orthodoxy, and social stratification. Employing a qualitative library research design, this study conducts a critical historiographical analysis of classical and contemporary sources. The findings reveal that, particularly through the Nizamiyyah Madrasah, the Abbasid educational system underwent a process of institutional consolidation marked by curriculum standardization, the integration of revealed (naqli) and rational (ʿaqli) sciences, and the professionalization of pedagogical practices. Moreover, madrasahs functioned as mechanisms of ideological reproduction, contributing to the consolidation of Sunni orthodoxy and the stabilization of Abbasid political authority. This study argues that the Abbasid madrasah represents a foundational model for the structural and epistemological configuration of formal Islamic education, offering enduring theoretical implications for contemporary Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

The Islamic tradition during the classical era made a significant contribution to the formation of civilization in education and the development of science. This discussion includes the roles of teachers and students in the classical Islamic tradition, emphasizing educational relationships, scientific ethics, and the methods of knowledge transmission that developed during that period. Teachers were positioned not only as transmitters of knowledge but also as moral and spiritual role models possessing scientific authority and moral integrity. Meanwhile, students were viewed as active subjects in the learning process, who were required to possess good manners, sincerity, and a commitment to the pursuit of knowledge. The success of classical Islamic education was largely determined by a harmonious reciprocal relationship between teachers and students, grounded in religious, ethical, and spiritual values. This is relevant for reflecting on the contemporary educational process so that it focuses not only on cognitive aspects but also on the development of students' character and morals.
