Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan. Kegiatan penelitian difokuskan pada pengembangan model yang berupa rubrik penilaian (scoring rubric) untuk menilai kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menyampaikan pidato persuasi ( persuasive speech ) pada mata kuliah speaking 4.  Pengembangan rubrik penilaian ini sangat diperlukan baik oleh dosen maupun oleh mahasiswa. Rubrik penilaian memberikan kemudahan bagi dosen untuk memberikan penilaian atas keberhasilan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan tugas berdasarkan kreteria penilaian telah dibuat dan diketahui mahasiswa.  Bagi mahasiswa, pengembangan rubrik penilaian ini memberikan kemudahan bagi mereka untuk mempersiapkan diri dalam menyelesaiakn tugas yang diberikan kepadanya sesuai dengan kreteria yang telah ditentukan dalam rubrik penelilaian. Disamping itu, mahasiswa dapat mengetahui kelemahan dari performa mereka sebagai bahan kajian dan perbiakan unutk melakukan kegitaan berikutnya.                Pengembangan rubrik ini melibatkan beberapa pihak diantaranya pemegang kebijakan di program studi,, ahli bahasa, dosen mata kuliah bahasa Inggris dan mahasiswa program studi bahasa inggris. Semua pihak tersebut terlibat dalam pengumpuan data, analisa produk dan validasi ahli terhadap produk yang telah dikembangkan. Data yang diperoleh dianalisa dan jabarkan secara deskriptif untuk menjadi dasar dalam pengembangan model.Rubrik penilaian dikembangkan dengan mengikuti model pengembangan dari Tessmer (1993). Pada model pengembangan ini, penelitian difokuskanpada 2 tahapyaitutahappreliminary dantahapformative evaluation. Tahap formative evaluationmeliputiself evaluation, prototyping (expert reviews danone-to-one, dansmall group), sertafield test. Dengan model pengembangan ini, diharapkan model penilaian yang dihasilkan benar-benar telah melalui tahapan-tahapan yang benar-benar sesuai dengan keingan dan kebutuhan serta karakter khusus dari mahasiswa sehingga dapat secara efektif  dipakai untuk menilai kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menyampaikan pidato persuasif (persuasive speech).

Abstract

Media pembelajaran merupakan satu hal yang sangat penting dalam proses pembelajaran. Penggunaan media pembelajaran yang tepat mampu membawa pesanpesan atau informasi yang bertujuan instruksional atau mengandung unsur-unsur pendidikan untuk mencapai tujuan pembelajaran dengan baik. Ketidakhadiran media pembelajaran dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris akan menyebabkan pencapaian tujuan kegiatan pembelajaran tidak tercapai secara maksimal. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk membuat media pembelajaran yang berupa materi pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang di khususkan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara menggunakan metode jigsaw. Materi pembelajaran yang disusun sangat diperlukan untuk mengatasi permasalahan yang dihadapi mitra saat ini yaitu rendahnya kemampuan berbicara peserta didik yang ada di lokasi mitra. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan dikelompokkan menjadi tiga tahapan yaitu tahap persiapan, pelaksanaan kegiatan dan tahap evaluasi. Materi pembelajaran disusun didasarkan pada standar isi, kebutuhan dan keinginan siswa serta kondisi peserta didik dan sekolah. Pembuatan materi pembelajaran dilakukan dengan mengadopsi dan memodifikasi materi-materi yang berasal dari beberapa media cetak dan internat. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah tersusunnya satu buku bahan ajar yang berisi kegiatan-kegiatan pembelajaran yang dapat dipakai oleh guru sebagai materi tambahan (supplementary materials) untuk mencapai tujuan pembelajaran keterampilan berbicara (speaking).

Abstract

Pengembangan media pembelajaran bahasa inggris untuk pramuwista di desa wista organik Lombok Kulon, Bondowo merupakan suatu kebutuhan nyata yang harus dialakukan untuik menjawab kebutuhan akan materi pembelajaran bahasa inggris yang mampu meningkatkan kemampuan berkomunikasi (communication competence) bagi anak-anak desa sebagai calon pramuwista di desa wisata Organik lombok kulon. Media pembelajaran dikembangkan dengan melalui beberapa tahapan yaitu 1). Analisa kebutuhan, 2). merumuskan tujuan pembelajaran, 3). menyusun materi 4). menentukan metode 5). merumuskan alat evaluasi. Materi yang disusun diujicobakan kepada para calon pramuwisata melalui kegiatan pelatihan bahasa Inggris dalam wadah English club yang ada di desa Wisata Organik Lobok Kulon. Dari kegiatan ini diperoleh respon dan masukan masukan positif terhadap kegiatan pengabdian yang diadakan.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPerkembangan industri pariwisata yang sangat dinamis saat ini erat kaitannya dengan tren masyarakat pasca pandemi Covid-19. Green lifestyle yang semakin digemari di kalangan masyarakat milenial membuat usaha glamping muncul sebagai alternatif baru dalam sektor pariwisata. Peluang ini juga ditangkap oleh pelaku usaha mikro, kecil, dan menengah (UMKM) sektor pariwisata di beberapa daerah di Indonesia, salah satunya di Jember. Cendhani Park Glamping merupakan salah satu pionir usaha glamping di Kabupaten Jember. Sebagai rintisan usaha baru, ada beberapa hal yang perlu dikembangkan untuk menjaga keberlanjutan usaha yang dirintis. Berdasarkan hasil analisis situasi yang dilakukan, terdapat 2 (dua) permasalahan yang ditemukan, yaitu belum optimalnya pemasaran digital yang dilakukan serta terbatasnya paket usaha yang dijual. Solusi untuk meminimalkan kedua permasalahan tersebut adalah dengan melakukan pelatihan digital marketing dan fun English bagi pengelola Cendhani Park Glamping sebagai bentuk pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang dilakukan oleh tim pelaksana dari Program Studi Bahasa Inggris, Jurusan Bahasa, komunikasi, dan Pariwisata Politeknik Negeri Jember. Dari hasil evaluasi pasca kegiatan, disimpulkan bahwa mitra merasa puas dan terbantu dengan adanya pelatihan tersebut. Akan tetapi, mitra juga memerlukan pelatihan dan pendampingan yang lebih spesifik dan intensif terkait digital marketing dan fun English untuk aktivitas outdoor/outbound.    Kata kunci: digital marketing; fun english; optimalisasi; UMKM; glamping. ABSTRACTThe dynamic development of the tourism industry is highly related to societal trends after the pandemic Covid-19. A green lifestyle that is more and more popular among millennials brings about the emergence of glamping as a new alternative in the tourism sector. This opportunity is also grasped by those who run micro, small, and medium enterprises in the tourism industry around Indonesia, one of which is Jember. Cendhani Park Glamping is one of the pioneers of the glamping business in Jember. As a new start-up business, some development and improvement are needed to maintain the business’s sustainability. Based on the situation analysis conducted, there are 2 (two) problems found. The first is that there is room for improvement in the implementation of digital marketing, and the second is that the items or packages sold are limited. The solution needed to minimize the two problems is by conducting digital marketing training and also introducing fun English training for the staff of Cendhani Park Glamping. These trainings are part of the community service program conducted by the lecturers and students of the English study program, Language, Communication, and Tourism Department, Politeknik Negeri Jember. From the post-training evaluation, it can be concluded that on one hand, the program brings benefits to the staff of Cendhani Park Glamping; on the other hand, more specific and intensive training in the fields of digital marketing and fun English for outdoor/outbound activities are needed in the future to optimize the sustainability of the glamping business. Keywords: digital marketing; fun english; optimization; MSME; glamping.

Abstract

Since the emergence of Covid-19, almost every sector of human life on this planet has been altered, including education. This also brought an impact on Politeknik Negeri Jember . Until the first half of the even Semester of the Academic Year 2021/2022, learning activities were carried out virtually through two main media, namely the Learning Management System (LMS) and video conferencing application such as Zoom. Unfortunately, during the period, the condition led to the lack of interactive learning by the lecturers of English study program on virtual classroom. To deal with this, one of the solutions was the use of Quizizz as a learning app for lecturers in the English study program of Language, Communication and Tourism department of Politeknik Negeri Jember. This study focused on investigating teachers’ perception regarding their experience in using the application which was relatively new for many of them. The study involved 21 lecturers of English study program of Politeknik Negeri Jember as the participants of Quizizz short workshop. The findings indicated that participants were enthusiast of having teaching learning activities using Quizizz. The participants enjoyed Quizizz and thought it was exciting, interesting, motivating, and enjoyable, especially while doing the online quiz. In addition, the results of quiz that accomplished by them can be seen and evaluated since it was recorded on teacher’s database of Quizizz application.

Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic has caused a lot of changes in all fields, including the field of education. Online learning has been implemented as a way to conduct teaching and learning process remotely. Therefore, the learning methods and media that teachers use have to be adapted to online learning. YouTube is one of media that teachers can use in online learning. The purpose of this study is to determine the response of English students at State Polytechnic of Jember to the use of instructional media via YouTube as a learning resource for Indonesian language course. This research used quantitative research methods. The results of the questionnaire distributed online to students via Google Form will then be analyzed quantitatively descriptively. The results of the study show that the students can learn information easily in a coherent manner from YouTube. Also, they are more motivated and interested in learning. More importantly, they have an interesting learning experience. In conclusion, they students gave good responses to the use of YouTube as a learning resource.

Abstract

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in English Language Teaching (ELT) can be seen as both a benefit and a potential threat, depending on how it is used and implemented. On the one hand, AI technology has the potential to make language learning more efficient and effective, by providing personalized feedback and practice exercises tailored to the different student’s needs and learning style. By conducting an in-depth analysis of the existing literature on this topic, the writers aim at gaining a deeper understanding of the ways in which AI is being used to enhance the learning of English as a foreign language. Moreover, the literature review has involved an extensive search, mostly, for relevant scholarly articles, books, and additional sources that explore the intersection of AI and ELT. Besides, this review has also resulted a deeper understanding of the benefits and threats of using AI in ELT.

Abstract

One of the current needs of the labor market and stakeholders in Politeknik Negeri Jember is a study program under the communication discipline, namely Media Production. In order to realize the new study program in media production, Politeknik Negeri Jember appointed a task force team to establish the Media Production Study Program. This task force worked together to make the proposals for establishment of the new study program. The results of the literature study show that the flow of communication took place from top to bottom. The flow of communication activity brought messages to be delivered to the recipients. There were three message functions carried out in this activity, namely task messages, maintenance messages, and update messages. There were also three communications that were used, namely vertical downward communication, upward vertical communication, and horizontal communication. The recent study tried to elaborate those three message functions and usages. This study utilized a qualitative paradigm, with no intention of carrying out hypothesis testing, generalization, and is intersubjective. Moreover, this research was a descriptive research that focuses on a systematic, factual and accurate description of the facts.

Abstract

Publicity materials are crucial tools in public relations, media communication, and marketing, playing a significant role in shaping public perception and disseminating key messages. This paper addresses the gap in comprehensive understanding and systematic exploration of the theoretical foundations and practical frameworks that guide the development of these materials. Utilizing a systematic literature review, we analyze existing frameworks and theories related to publicity materials, with a specific focus on their application in educational settings for undergraduate students learning English for Professional Communication. By synthesizing insights from seminal works and contemporary studies, this paper equips educators, students, and practitioners with a robust understanding of the principles, best practices, and innovative approaches for creating impactful publicity materials. Our findings highlight the evolution of publicity materials, the integration of digital platforms, personalization strategies, data analytics, and ethical considerations. These insights offer practical guidance for enhancing educational and professional development curricula, ensuring the effective use of publicity materials in various contexts.

Abstract

Tourism is one sector that makes a significant contribution to the economic development in Kabupaten Jember. Therefore, this sector needs to be prioritized. To address the previous statement, special attention is needed for supporting accommodations, including hotels. One of the hotels in Kabupaten Jember is managed by UPT Destinasi Wisata Terpadu Rembangan. Through an interview process with front office staff, this hotel has been able to provide services to local and international communities. However, service quality is considered less than optimal, especially in handling complaints delivered by the international customers. Therefore, this training entitled Handling Complaint Training for the Front Office Staff of Hotel UPT Destinasi Wisata Terpadu was orgnized using English. The training was carried out using the scientific approach method by applying five stages, namely observing, questioning, associating, experimenting, and communicating over a period of six months. It is hoped that with this training, the understanding and quality of complaint handling are increased.
