Abstract

The field of language education has recognized educational transformations driven by advancements in information and communication technology (ICT). From traditional tools to intelligent digital innovations, the journey has been marked by continuous evolution. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in language education, termed Intelligent Technology-Enhanced Language Learning (ITELL), represents a paradigm shift. This paper explores the reality of ITELL in higher education, focusing on how AI is used in language teaching, teachers' perspectives, policy implications, challenges, and strategies employed. A qualitative case study approach explored the integration of AI in TELL in higher education. Seven English language teachers in Indonesia, employing AI tools, participated in in-depth, semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis of interview data provides insights into teachers' practices, perceptions, and challenges of AI in language education. Methodological rigour was ensured through member-checking, peer debriefing, and adherence to ethical guidelines. The findings emphasize the positive impact of AI on enriching teachers' perspectives, enhancing materials development, enlivening in-class teaching, and facilitating efficient assessments. However, challenges such as depersonalization and ethical considerations were highlighted. A hybrid model that balances AI-driven personalization with human interaction was promoted. Fundamental prerequisites for successful AI integration include teacher professional development, aligned curriculum, pedagogical exploration, and a comprehensive policy framework.

Abstract

Language learning is a complex cognitive process which involves mastering various linguistic components, with grammar serving as a fundamental pillar. Traditionally, grammar instruction relied on rote memorization and textbook exercises, often divorcing learners from real-life language use. This paper explores the transformative impact of technology on grammar pedagogy, addressing the limitations of traditional methods. The integration of digital tools, gamification, virtual learning environments, and adaptive systems has redefined grammar instruction, fostering dynamic and engaging learning experiences. The paper discusses the implications for both students and teachers, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach that harmonizes tradition and technology. Recommendations for future research highlight emerging trends and the evolving landscape of technology-enhanced grammar education.

Abstract

Publicity materials are crucial tools in public relations, media communication, and marketing, playing a significant role in shaping public perception and disseminating key messages. This paper addresses the gap in comprehensive understanding and systematic exploration of the theoretical foundations and practical frameworks that guide the development of these materials. Utilizing a systematic literature review, we analyze existing frameworks and theories related to publicity materials, with a specific focus on their application in educational settings for undergraduate students learning English for Professional Communication. By synthesizing insights from seminal works and contemporary studies, this paper equips educators, students, and practitioners with a robust understanding of the principles, best practices, and innovative approaches for creating impactful publicity materials. Our findings highlight the evolution of publicity materials, the integration of digital platforms, personalization strategies, data analytics, and ethical considerations. These insights offer practical guidance for enhancing educational and professional development curricula, ensuring the effective use of publicity materials in various contexts.

Abstract

The English Club in one of the extracurricular activities organized by schools from elementary to tertiary level. This activity aims to provide a platform for students to develop their interests and talents, especially in the field of English. SMP 14 Jember is one of the schools located in Antirogo village, Sumbersari Jember district which does not yet have an extracurricular activity program in the field of English or English Club. This happened because there were enough personnel who could help carry out this activity. However, teachers and students have tried to hold activities that are competitions in English when there were students who did internship program at the school. The solution offered is to help initiate and assist the development of English Club extracurricular activities such as story telling, speeches and debating. Implementation methods include: conducting preliminary studies, implementing activities, and evaluating. The targets and outputs that have been achieved include 3 mandatory outputs and one additional output, namely: a scientific article published in the Community Service journal, an article in print/electronic mass media, a video of activities, and increasing partner empowerment, namely the formation of the English Club extracurricular activity at SMP 14 Jember.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of three AI-powered grammar checker applications—Grammarly, QuillBot, and GrammarCheck—in improving the recount writing skills of EFL students. Fifty-two undergraduate students revised their recount texts using these tools, and data were collected through text analysis and student questionnaires. Results show that all three applications helped reduce grammatical errors and increased students’ awareness of language accuracy, with Grammarly offering the most comprehensive feedback and QuillBot providing valuable paraphrasing support. Despite their benefits, limitations such as surface-level corrections and restricted free features highlight the need for integrating these tools alongside teacher guidance. The findings suggest that grammar checkers can serve as effective supplementary aids in EFL writing instruction when used thoughtfully.

Abstract

The development and dissemination of effective publicity materials are essential for professional communicators in public relations, communication, and marketing in this digital and globalized world. These materials, encompassing various media formats, play a crucial role in conveying messages, shaping public perceptions, and engaging target audiences. With the rapid development of digital technology and the need for integrated communication strategies, creating persuasive, ethical, and transparent materials has become increasingly important. This study aims to identify and synthesize common procedures for the development of publicity materials through a systematic literature review (SLR) of 77 highly cited international references in public relations, marketing, communication, and media. Key stages of the methodology include defining research questions, identifying and selecting relevant literature, extracting and analysing data, and summarizing common procedures. The findings reveal essential elements such as audience analysis, objectives-setting, message development, communication channel selection, and effectiveness appraisal. This study also highlights the importance of cultural sensitivity, two-way communication, and the integration of technology in developing effective publicity materials. The study concludes with recommendations for future research, including the development of comprehensive models or frameworks that can further enhance the creation of impactful publicity materials in diverse contexts.

Abstract

Design Thinking (DT), originating in industrial design, has evolved into a transformative framework for addressing global educational challenges, particularly in the development of teaching materials. By emphasizing empathy, ideation, and iterative prototyping, DT fosters creativity, collaboration, and adaptability, supporting active, interdisciplinary learning. However, challenges persist in integrating DT into curriculum design, pedagogy, and teaching materials, as well as evaluating its impact on student outcomes. This systematic literature review analyses the worldwide studies from 2010 to 2024 using a semi-systematic approach. Peer-reviewed literature from Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar was examined through thematic analysis to identify DT’s principles, educational impacts, and implementation barriers. The findings demonstrate DT’s ability to enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, and engagement while aligning with technological and sustainability goals. Despite these benefits, institutional and cultural barriers, inadequate teacher training, and resource constraints limit its effectiveness. The review highlights the need for localized frameworks, integration of emerging technologies, and robust empirical research. Addressing these gaps can help educators create inclusive, innovative, and student-centred learning environments, equipping students with skills for an increasingly complex and globalized world.
