Abstract

The increase in the number and activities of the population will be in line with the increase in waste generation, resulting in an increase in the burden on the Ganet landfill. The current controlled landfill method can no longer manage the increasing waste load. A more efficient waste management design system is needed to minimize and prevent potential environmental damage. Waste management scenarios are designed based on the potential for waste processing at the Ganet landfill. In selecting waste management scenarios, an economic analysis is required, which is key in designing an effective waste management system. Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) is used as an economic assessment of the 4 scenarios designed, namely scenario 0 (controlled landfill), scenario 1 (utilization by scavengers, composting and controlled landfill), scenario 2 (utilization by scavengers, composting, pyrolysis and controlled landfill) and scenario 3 (utilization by scavengers, composting, pyrolysis, paving block making and controlled landfill). The cost and benefit components were identified for each waste treatment process. The waste processing that costs the most is controlled landfill in scenario 0 amounting to IDR 8,326,123,157.87, while the waste processing process that produces the greatest benefit value is the manufacture of paving blocks amounting to IDR 158,392,662.33. The results of the Cost Benefit Analysis calculation show a Benefit Cost Rasio (BCR) value of 1.91, Net Present Value (NPV) of 8,448,737,857.40 and the fastest Payback Period (PP) of 5 months is scenario 3. This shows that the scenario is economically feasible to do. The results of this study are expected to be a consideration in the policy formulation related to waste management at the Ganet landfill.

Abstract

The rapid population growth of Batam City has a significant impact on the availability of clean water, especially around Marina City Sekupang Tanjung Riau. In response to this, BP Batam and the developer of Marina City Sekupang plan to optimize the local natural reservoir as a source of raw water for the WTP (Water Treatment Plant). This study aims to evaluate the potential discharge and water quality in the natural lake in the Marina City area, Batam. The methodology uses a quantitative approach for hydrological analysis, including calculating flood discharge and determining the area of the water catchment area, based on direct field measurements. Social analysis uses a qualitative descriptive method. Water sampling follows the SNI 6989.57: 2008 procedure. The results of the study show that the estimated domestic water requirement per house connection in 2023 reaches 50.47 liters/second. Annual water evaporation is calculated based on the average evaporation rate in the Marina City lake of 22.29 mm/month or 0.776 mm/day. The total reservoir capacity is 869,249.00 m3, with a total water loss of 262,851 m3/day. This research provides important information for the development of water resources in the Marina City area, supporting efforts to meet the clean water needs of the local community and its surroundings

Abstract

Sea cucumbers are members of the Phylum Echinodermata which have high economic value and widely used by the coastal communities of the Riau Islands as food sources and medicines. Unregulated fishing greatly pressure sea cucumber populations in natural waters. Aquculture is regarded as a solution to the over-exploitation of sea cucumbers from natural waters. However, further research is needed to establish the better technical and economic efficiency. Local sea cucumber farmer needs information about the technical aspects of sea cucumber seed production so they can produce the seeds independently. Therefore, a series of dissemination and demonstrations were organized to introduce the method of produce sea cucumber seeds using the fission technique. This community service activity was carried out using the participatory action research (PAR) method involving the Maju Mandiri fish farmer group in Kampung Madong, Kampung Bugis Village, Tanjungpinang City. The team carried out counseling and demonstrated the binding procedure to simulate fission in sea cucumber. Our partner group seemed enthusiastic about participating in the activity and quite proficient on some basic fission techniques to provide sea cucumber seeds. This activity also raises awareness among the locals to actively maintain the sustainability of marine resources. So, we hope our partner group can start the sea cucumber culture business with independent seed production, and they can achieve our goals to improving community welfare and preserving the water environment simultaneously.
