Abstract

ABSTRACT  Community service activities have been carried out by a team of lecturers from the Postgraduate Program in Aipiri to identify regional potential and human resource potential. The activity was carried out at the village hall which was followed by field visits to both residents' houses and agricultural land, forestry and the sea.  Sampling of respondents was carried out randomly by considering the ownership of the resources owned. The results show that there are two existing agricultural conditions, namely 1) Agricultural Conditions at an Altitude > 10 m with green bean plants dominant; 2). The altitude of the place is 6 m above sea level (residential settlement) with flower plants, vegetables and plant sources of carbohydrates, areca nut and betel. The forest area is included in the tropical forest, 75% is natural forest and 25% is artificial forest. Livestock developed by the community in Aipiri are pigs with more males than females. Fisheries activities in Aipiri are still in the form of traditional activities. The fishing grounds for fishermen only reach the waters in front of the village, using rowboats without motors. The people who inhabit Aipiri are grouped into heterogeneous communities because there has been an assimilation of various ethnicities, including the Biak, Serui, MPur, Javanese, Wandamen and Meyah ethnic groups. The social interaction that exists between community members is manifested through government, spiritual, economic, and educational activities. Aipiri is located on the northern coast of Bird's Head which is directly adjacent to the Pacific Ocean. Abstract

Excessive surface runoff  is often underestimated concerning flood mitigation. Indeed, flooding has become a recurring disaster in the past 20 years in Indonesia. This research aims to determine the erosion hazard level and develop conservation plans for dryland agriculture and oil palm plantations to mitigate surface runoff, thereby reducing the risk of flooding. The data collected includes hydrology, dryland agricultural areas, oil palm plantations, and topography, which are analyzed based on threats and conservation potential.  Conservation plans that can be implemented include  Minor  Recharge Holes (MRH) in dryland agriculture and dead-end ponds Palm Dead Pond  (PDP) in oil palm plantations. The research results indicate that the MRH design, with a diameter of 1-1.5 m and a depth of 1-1.5 m, still results in surface runoff exceeding 70%. Meanwhile, the PDP design, with a depth of 1-1.5 m and a size of 1-1.5 x 1-1.5 x 7-8 m, yields runoff below 50%, even during extreme rainfall (220 mm), with runoff being only 2%. A change in land use, primarily dominated by dryland agriculture and oil palm plantations, has been a significant factor in triggering flooding in the Arui watershed. In addition to MRH and PDP, five rivers can accommodate surface runoff, which is expected to contribute to long-term flood mitigation in the  Arui watershed.

Abstract

Abstract

Majority of patients comes to the community health centers in Manokwari areas is related to malaria diseases, and small number of patients are for diabete melitus diaseses. The patients of diabetes meliatus coming to these community center are not in prediabetic conditions. This means that they are recommended to look better or advanced treatment in hospital. This conditions are due to community lack of knowledge of malaria and diabetes mellitus (DM). To eliminate these condition, community education is important to be conducted, using different approached such as comunity service. The main targets of this research project are the community living at the rural (sub urban) and town areas. Interviews, biomedical measurement parameter, community approaches, and cutting malaria mosquito living cycle, were used to collect data and information. The results indicate that numbers of family member diagnosed with DM and Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) at Town are higher than those at Rural. The respondents diagnosed DM are mostly women, either as house wife or no regular work. Interestingly, no men were reported for DM. Respondents of DM and IGT from Town were mostly at age of 45 – 54 years old, while at Rural were younger, from 15-24 years old. Malaria were found higher prevalence at the sub urban areas, and mostly suffering from Plamodium falcifarum (tropica malaria). After being community approaches, planting anti-malaria herbs, the prevelance of DM and malaria were decreasing because the community awareness of preventing malaria and DM.
