Abstract

Pneumonia is an acute inflammation of the pulmonary parenchyma that can be caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae. This study aims to determine the active fraction of cayenne pepper leaves on the growth of K. pneumoniae. Cayenne pepper leaf which previously defatted using n-hexane was macerated with 95% ethanol, then fractionated successively with dichloromethane, ethyl acetate and methanol. Ethanol extract and each fraction with concentration of 40% were tested for their antibacterial activity against K. pneumoniae using disc diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer). 1% amoxicillin was used as positive control and Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as negative control. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of the most active fraction was then determined. Determination of antibacterial compound in the most active fraction was carried out by TLC-bioautography and followed by Gass Chromatography Mass Spectrophotometry. Cell leakage analysis was performed using UV spectrophotometry to detect the release of protein and nucleic acid, as well as Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry was used to detect ion release of K+ and Ca2+. The results showed that the most active fraction against K. pneumoniae was the ethyl acetate fraction with MIC value of 10% and inhibition zone of 7.25±0.25 mm. TLC-Bioautography of ethyl acetate fraction with eluen n-hexane: ethyl acetate (6:4) obtained an active stain at Rf 0.12. Compounds having 94% similarity with 1-propanol, 2-amino was predicted as the active compound.

Abstract

Meatballs and wet noodles are foods that are favored by the community. The high water content causes these two types of food to be vulnerable and easily damaged in storage. The addition of chemicals such as preservatives in the manufacture of food products is carried out by producers so that the products are more durable, economical, and produce maximum profit. One chemical that is often misused for food preservatives is formaldehyde. Formalin is a dangerous chemical that is carcinogenic, mutagenic, corrosive, and irritating. This study aims to determine whether there is formalin content in meatballs and wet noodles that are sold in the districts of Sukarame, Wayhalim, and Sukabumi. This research was conducted in a qualitative analysis using Schiff's reagent on 30 samples of meatballs and 30 samples of wet noodles which were sold in Sukarame, Wayhalim, and Sukabumi. The results showed that 10 samples of meatballs and 2 wet noodles showed positive results containing formaldehyde. This shows that around 33.3% of the meatball sample and 6.66% of the wet noodles sample analyzed were identified to contain formaldehyde so that they are not safe for consumption in the long term and people must be careful in selecting meatballs and wet noodles for consumption. Abstract

Bakso dan mi basah merupakan makanan yang mudah ditemui di Indonesia. Tak heran apabila hampir disetiap pusat keramaian dan sepanjang jalan utama disetiap daerah terdapat warung makan yang menyajikan bakso dan makanan berbahan dasar mi basah. Boraks merupakan zat aditif berbahaya yang sering digunakan sebagai pengawet dan memperbaiki tekstur bakso, akan tetapi penggunaan boraks sebagai pengawet makanan dilarang di Indonesia karena dapat menyebabkan berbagai macam penyakit seperti gangguan syaraf pusat hingga gangguan pada hati. Kota Bandar Lampung merupakan Ibukota Provinsi Lampung, berdasakan Badan Pusat Statistik Kota Bandar Lampung Kecamatan Sukarame, Sukabumi dan Wayhalim menjadi 3 dari 5 besar kecamatan dengan jumlah penduduk tertinggi tahun 2020 di Kota Bandar Lampung. Penilitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis ada tidak nya kandungan boraks pada bakso dan mi basah yang dijual di Kecamatan Sukarame, Sukabumi dan Wayhalim di Kota Bandar Lampung. Metode pengambilan sampel pada penelitian ini adalah random sample dimana terdapat total 30 sampel bakso dan 30 sampel mi basah yang diuji. Hasil uji kualitatif kandungan boraks pada seluruh sampel menunjukkan tidak ada kandungan boraks pada bakso dan mi basah yang dianalisis (100% negatif boraks).

Abstract

The prevalence of colorectal cancer (CRC) is ranked third among all cancer types in both men and women, highlighting the urgency for drug exploration. Zerumbone and its derivatives have gained attention for their ability to inhibit angiogenesis, invasion, and metastasis and have been tested for their efficacy against various cancer cells. This study aimed to investigate the potential targets and mechanism of action of zerumbone derivatives in colon cancer invasion and migration. Bioinformatic analysis was conducted using STITCH and STRING to identify potential target genes, and molecular docking was used to search for anticancer candidates from 20 zerumbone derivatives. The results revealed that six proteins were targeted by zerumbone derivatives, including XIAPBIR3 (1TFT), AKT1 (3O96), JAK2 (6VGL), HASP90AA (2XJX), MDM2 (4MDN), and XIAPBIR2 (4KJU). Compound 4 was found to have a lower binding energy than zerumbone as well as AZD5363 (pan-Akt inhibitor) when interacting with the protein target AKT1. This makes it the most promising candidate among the zerumbone derivatives for treating colorectal cancer. Further development, such as the addition of an amine functional group, is expected to improve the potency of this molecule through the formation of hydrogen bonds and other interactions with lower bond energy.Keywords: Bioinformatic, molecular docking, zerumbone derivatives, colorectal cancer.

Abstract

Posyandu Balai Desa Banjar Agung merupakan posyandu yang berada di kecamatan jati agung dan terdapat kasus stunting pada balita. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) dilakukan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan kepada ibu-ibu yang memiliki bayi terkait stunting dan pencegahannya, manfaat jamur tiram putih dan labu kuning dalam sediaan nutrasetika biskuit serta meningkatkan keterampilan dalam membuat sediaan biskuit. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat dilakukan melalui beberapa tahapan yaitu tahapan pemaparan materi manfaat jamur tiram putih dan labu kuning, pelatihan pembuatan biskuit “J-Laning”, pelatihan pengemasan dan pemasaran produk biskuit “J-Laning”. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan ini antara lain terdapat peningkatan kemampuan dasar dalam soal pre-test dan post-test yang telah diberikan dan produk biskuit yang dibuat dapat dikonsumsi secara pribadi atau dapat dijual melalui pemasaran digital atau di BUMD (Badan Usaha Milik Desa).

Abstract

Desa Fajar Mataram, Kabupaten Lampung Selatan, memiliki potensi yang besar dalam pertanian, terutama padi. Olahan padi digunakan secara luas sebagai bahan makanan pokok. Di lain sisi, Diabetes merupakan tantangan besar dalam dunia kesehatan dan menjadi salah satu penyakit dengan prevalensi tertinggi di Kabupaten Lampung Selatan. Penggunaan olahan padi sebagai bahan makanan pokok telah banyak dilaporkan terkait dengan peningkatan resiko Diabetes. Edukasi pengolahan produk padi menjadi bahan makanan ramah diabetes sangat diperlukan. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat di Desa Fajar Mataram terbagi menjadi 2 sesi, yaitu sesi edukasi Diabetes dan sesi cara pembuatan pati ramah diabetes dari produk olahan padi, yaitu tepung beras dan nasi. Cara pembuatan yang diajarkan sesuai dengan literatur yang telah ada dan eksperimen pendahuluan di Laboratorium. Hasil dari pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat terhadap penyakit Diabetes dan cara pembuatan pati resisten dari olahan padi. Masyarakat antusias dan mendapatkan manfaat dari pelatihan ini. Kata Kunci: Pati Resisten, Diabetes, Tepung Beras, Nasi.

Abstract

Pekon Gading Rejo Timur memiliki angka kejadian DBD yang cukup tinggi. Spray repellent nyamuk berbahan dasar serai wangi (Cymbopogon nardus) merupakan salah satu cara pencegahan DBD. Serai lebih dikenal sebagai bumbu dapur, sedangkan serai wangi masih minim dimanfaatkan. Pengetahuan masyrakat juga masih minim terkait dengan serai wangi sebagai repellent nyamuk. Oleh sebab itu, dibutuhkan penyuluhan dan pelatihan untuk meningkatkan wawasan masyarakat terkait DBD dan pencegahannya dengan memanfaatkan serai wangi. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi kegiatan diketahui bahwa rerata nilai sebelum dan setelah kegiatan memiliki perbedaan signifikan (p < 0,05). Kegiatan penyuluhan DBD dan pelatihan pembuatan spray repellent serai wangi telah memberikan manfaat dengan peningkatan wawasan para peserta kegiatan.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus remains one of the most dangerous illnesses worldwide. The PPAR-gamma protein plays a crucial role in lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, making it a key target for diabetes therapy. Research into plant-derived active compounds for diabetes treatment is increasingly important. Objective: This study aims to evaluate and analyze the interaction of ferulic acid, niazirin, and bakuchiol with the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) protein using molecular docking. Methods: Molecular docking was employed to assess the interactions between ferulic acid, niazirin, bakuchiol, and the PPAR-γ protein (PDB ID: 2PRG). The analysis focused on binding free energy values, amino acid residue interactions, the number of hydrogen bonds, and bond distances, comparing these results to those of the native ligand and pioglitazone, a known anti-diabetic drug targeting PPAR-γ. Results: The binding free energies for the ferulic acid-PPAR-γ, bakuchiol-PPAR-γ, niazirin-PPAR-γ, native ligand-PPAR-γ, and pioglitazone-PPAR-γ complexes were -5.54 kcal/mol, -8.47 kcal/mol, -6.56 kcal/mol, -10.08 kcal/mol, and -9.94 kcal/mol, respectively. The amino acid residue similarity percentages with the native ligand were 18.18% for ferulic acid, 27.27% for bakuchiol, 18.18% for niazirin, and 81.82% for pioglitazone. The native ligand-2PRG and pioglitazone-2PRG complexes exhibited superior hydrogen bond numbers and shorter bond distances compared to the other compounds. Conclusion: Although bakuchiol showed the most promising interaction among the tested compounds, none surpassed the binding affinity and stability of the native ligand or pioglitazone. Further research is needed to optimize these compounds for potential anti-diabetic therapy.

Abstract

Background: Inflammation plays a key role in the progression of many chronic diseases. As a country with rich biodiversity, Indonesia offers numerous phytochemicals with potential for drug development, including catechin, a natural compound with anti-inflammatory properties. Objective: This study aimed to identify potential anti-inflammatory targets of catechin and evaluate its inhibitory potency through molecular docking simulations. Methods: Data acquisition and refinement were conducted using the NCBI, STRING, and STITCH databases, with intersections identified through Venn diagrams. Molecular docking was performed using AutoDockTools 1.5.6, and interactions were visualized with BIOVIA Discovery Studio. Results: Bioinformatics analysis predicted that catechin inhibits three pro-inflammatory proteins: COX-2, HSP90, and IL-2. Catechin’s inhibitory potential was indicated by negative binding energies and interactions with amino acid residues critical for target protein activity. Among the targets, IL-2 exhibited the lowest binding energy with catechin (-5.12 kcal/mol), suggesting it as the primary anti-inflammatory target. However, catechin’s binding affinity was lower than that of the native ligand (-11.78 kcal/mol). Conclusion: IL-2 is predicted to be the primary target for catechin’s anti-inflammatory activity. Structural modifications of catechin are recommended to enhance its binding affinity and therapeutic potential.

Abstract

Stunting merupakan permasalahan kesehatan serius yang berdampak jangka panjang terhadap kualitas sumber daya manusia, terutama di daerah pedesaan. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman kader PKK dan Posyandu mengenai pencegahan stunting melalui edukasi gizi seimbang dan pengolahan makanan bergizi sederhana berbahan lokal. Metode yang digunakan adalah sosialisasi interaktif. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan pada 18 Desember 2024 di Desa Bumisari, Kecamatan Natar, Kabupaten Lampung Selatan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman peserta terkait gizi seimbang dan praktik pencegahan stunting. Para kader berkomitmen untuk menyebarkan informasi ini ke masyarakat lebih luas. Pendampingan berkelanjutan diharapkan dapat menjadikan Desa Bumisari sebagai percontohan desa bebas stunting.
