Abstract

OTC (Over the Counter) drugs are a class of over-the-counter and limited over-the-counter drugs, which can be purchased without a prescription from a doctor, are safe, and effective when used according to the instructions on the drug packaging label. This study is a cross-sectional study that aims to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards the use of OTC drugs among Pharmacy students of the University of Muhammadiyah Riau. The study sample consisted of 86 respondents, consisting of 86% female and 14% male, with the majority aged 19-21 years. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire and analyzed using the Spearman correlation test to determine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and practices. The results showed that 62.8% of respondents had sufficient knowledge about OTC drugs, 64% had moderate attitudes, and 79.1% showed positive practices in the use of OTC drugs. Correlation analysis showed a significant positive relationship between knowledge and attitude (correlation coefficient: 0.362; p=0.001), knowledge and practice (correlation coefficient: 0.751; p=0.000), and attitude and practice (correlation coefficient: 0.553; p=0.000). These findings indicate that increasing knowledge about OTC drugs can contribute to more positive attitudes and better practices in their use. This study provides important insights for educational institutions in designing more effective educational programs to improve pharmacy students' knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards OTC drugs. Increased knowledge is expected to not only shape more positive attitudes, but also encourage safer and more responsible drug use practices

Abstract

Antiinflammatory activity of ethyl acetate extracts of the leaves of plant Akar Kaik-kaik Uncaria cordata (Lour.) Merr on white male rats. This research examined the quality of crude drugs and extracts ethyl acetate. It is intended to obtain raw materials which can ultimately ensure uniform pharmacologic effect. Antiinflammatory activity of the ethyl acetate extract were tested using the method of paw edema against white male rats. The research were 15 rats mile which divided into 5 groups. Negative control (Na CMC 1%), positive control (Na diklofenak dose 4,5 mg/kgBB) and extract group ethyl acetat with the dose 100, 200 and 400 mg/kgBB given orally. The volume measurement after subcutaneous injection caragen 1% performed with one hour interval for 5 hours assessing with pletysmometer and calculated the inhibition persen. The result of this study showed that the quality of crude drugs and extract ethyl acetate meet the specified requirements Indonesian Herbal Pharmacopoeia. Ethyl acetate extract has significant anti-inflammatory effects to the negative control at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kgBB while against the positive control did not differ significantly white male rats.

Abstract

This study highlights the critical role of oxygen-functionalized hierarchical nanofiber structures derived from kulim wood waste in improving the electrochemical performance of symmetric supercapacitors. A one-step catalyst-assisted method was developed to synthesize these carbon nanofibers. The synthesized material exhibited well-defined oxygen functionalities (9.34% oxygen content) and exceptional porosity (1070 m2/g), demonstrating a micro-mesoporosity ratio of nearly 4:1. This structural design led to enhanced capacitive properties, achieving a capacity of 172 F/g in acid media and a rate capability of 81.2% at 10 A/g. The oxidation reactions indicated a mixed energy storage mechanism, with 83% EDL-controlled and 22% redox-controlled processes. Additionally, the material showed an energy output of 19.91 Wh/kg and a power density of 1.02 kW/kg, showcasing its potential for sustainable energy storage applications. Importantly, this work offers a scalable, low-cost, and biomass-driven strategy for producing high-performance carbon electrodes, advancing sustainable supercapacitor technologies.

Abstract

Lip balm is a preparation applied to the lips to prevent dryness and chapping. Choosing the right lip balm base will significantly impact its quality and public acceptability. Beeswax has good binding properties, which help to produce a homogeneous mass. In this study, the active ingredient used was pineapple peel because it contains bromelain, which moisturizes the lips. The objectives of this study were to determine the appropriate formulation for lip balm preparations with pineapple peel extract (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.) as the active ingredient and to determine the effect of varying beeswax base concentrations on the physical stability of lip balm preparations. The method used in this study was an experimental method to see which formulation was suitable. The study obtained a good formula with physical characteristics in accordance with SNI 16-4769-1998, including stability observation, pH measurement, homogeneity testing, irritation testing, moisture testing, and cycling test. The appropriate formula was found in formula 1 with a beeswax concentration of 1%, which produced a good color texture, aroma, adhesive power, and spreadability, a pH level suitable for the lips, no irritation, homogeneity, and stability during storage, resulting in a semi-solid and very smooth lip balm texture when used
