Abstract

Determining fluid viscosity using the conventional falling-sphere method is frequently confronted with challenges related to experimental variability and measurement instrument limitations. As an alternative, Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) offer a computational approach capable of integrating physical laws into the neural network architecture. This study aims to evaluate the predictive accuracy of the PINNs model regarding the velocity of a falling sphere, as well as to compare it with the analytical solution of Stokes flow and experimental data. Data collection was conducted using a viscometer equipped with five infrared sensors, while the PINNs model was trained by balancing the experimental data loss and the physics loss derived from the equation of motion. The comparative results demonstrate that PINNs generally succeed in modeling the dynamics of the sphere's motion, convergently reaching terminal velocity. Nevertheless, two primary modeling limitations were identified. First, the model experiences an overshoot during the initial phase of motion due to the network's spectral bias effect when responding to drastic velocity changes. Second, the experimental data reveal a persistent velocity deceleration in the final phase that both the analytical and PINNs predictions failed to capture. This empirical anomaly indicates the occurrence of a shift in boundary-layer separation alongside the thixotropic effects of the fluid. In conclusion, PINNs prove to be a promising approach for bridging the gap between computational modeling and experimentation; however, this architecture still requires the inclusion of dynamic parameters to fully accommodate the complexity of fluids under real-world conditions.

Abstract

This study aims to determine patterns of cognitive abilities and creative thinking skills between male and female students in SMA Negeri 2 Mranggen. This research is included in non-experimental research. The study population was students of class XI consisting of 9 classes. The sampling technique uses stratified proportional random sampling, using the Slovin formula with a significant level of 10% so that 76 students are obtained from 324 students, 38 students each for male and female. The technique of data collection in this study is in the form of tests of cognitive abilities and creative thinking skills in the form of multiple-choice questions and descriptions of environmental change material. The instrument used was in the form of multiple-choice questions that contained C1-C6 for cognitive abilities and aspects of creative thinking for the problem description. The data collected was then analyzed using quantitative descriptive analysis and independent t-test, with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed a t-test of -1.067 and t-table with a significance (α) of 5% of 1.922 for cognitive abilities. Meanwhile, creative thinking skills were obtained that the t-count was -3.088 and the t-table with a significance (α) of 5% was 1.922. The results of both calculations show that H0 fails to be rejected which means there is no real difference between the creative thinking skills of male students and female students.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically examine empirical evidence from the past five years regarding the impact of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) approach on students’ critical thinking skills at the primary and secondary education levels. A qualitative Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method was employed. The literature was collected via Google Scholar, focusing on publications from 2019 to 2024, using a combination of keywords in both Indonesian and English. Out of 98 articles initially identified, only ten were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, and further assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute Checklist for quality appraisal. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis, categorizing studies based on educational level, subject matter, learning models, research methods, instruments used, and research outcomes. The review findings indicate that approximately 90% of the studies reported a significant improvement in students’ critical thinking skills through the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) integrated with STEAM. The most substantial effects were observed at the senior high school level, particularly in Physics and Biology subjects. At the elementary level, the STEAM approach was more effective when combined with play-based or exploratory learning activities. In junior high schools (SMP and MTs), STEAM served as a bridge between foundational conceptual understanding and the development of analytical skills. These findings highlight that the effectiveness of STEAM is highly contextual and influenced by students’ cognitive readiness, teacher support, and the socio-economic conditions of schools. The study concludes that STEAM should not be viewed merely as a pedagogical strategy, but as an adaptive educational practice. Practical implications include the need for differentiated instructional strategies, equitable access to learning resources, and teacher training programs to support more widespread and equitable implementation.
