Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of green competency development in enhancing market competitiveness among employees in the ecotourism industry. Green competencies have become increasingly important in the era of the green economy, particularly in the ecotourism sector, which heavily relies on environmental sustainability. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this study reviews and synthesizes various relevant studies on green competency development, market competitiveness, employee behavior, and ecotourism. Data were obtained from scholarly journals and other publications published within the last decade, with search criteria encompassing topics related to green competencies and competitiveness in sustainability-focused sectors. The findings suggest that the development of employees' green competencies, including an understanding of environmentally friendly practices and sustainable skills, can positively contribute to a company's market competitiveness in the ecotourism industry. The results also reveal that green competencies enhance the company's value and reputation, thus attracting environmentally conscious consumers. This study suggests that ecotourism managers should prioritize green training programs to strengthen the company's competitiveness in an increasingly sustainability-oriented market.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out through a student fieldwork program in Kampung Pedurenan, Kelurahan Jatiluhur, Bekasi, with the aim of empowering local residents to utilize limited yard space through the cultivation of chili plants using polybags. The program targeted housewives and local health volunteers who play a central role in family food management. The method used was a community education approach consisting of in-house training, practical workshops, and continuous mentoring. Participants were introduced to simple cultivation techniques using local materials such as soil and organic fertilizer, followed by hands-on practice and distribution of chili seedlings. The results showed an increase in participants' understanding and skills in polybag planting, along with an improvement in awareness regarding the importance of home-based food production. Community responses were highly positive, as indicated by active participation and adoption of the practices at home. The program also strengthened social bonds between students and residents, while supporting food independence at the household level. In conclusion, the program demonstrated that small-scale agricultural interventions using appropriate technology can be successfully implemented in urban settings and contribute to economic and social resilience.

Abstract

Community service represents one of the fundamental contributions of academics to social development, particularly in the educational sector. This article elaborates on the implementation of a community engagement program entitled Towards Smart Pesantren through Digital Transformation, conducted on May 28, 2025, at SMA Bi’rul Ulum Cisait, Serang, Banten. The initiative emerged from an inter-university collaboration aimed at enhancing the digital capacities of santri (Islamic boarding school students) to better prepare them for the challenges of the digital age. The program focused on training in graphic design, public speaking, an introduction to artificial intelligence (AI), and human resource development (HRD) in the digital context. Methods employed in the program included lectures, interactive discussions, and hands-on practice, allowing participants to gain both theoretical understanding and practical skills. The participatory approach fostered active engagement and created an enriching learning environment. Evaluation results indicated a high level of enthusiasm among the participants and a marked improvement in their grasp of fundamental digital competencies. This program exemplifies the strategic potential of inter-institutional academic collaboration in supporting the digital transformation of pesantren-based education in Indonesia. It is expected that the initiative can serve as a replicable and sustainable model for future community service efforts in similar educational contexts, particularly in promoting 21st-century skills.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world's largest producers of essential oils, especially from patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) and citronella (Cymbopogon nardus). However, most of these commodities are still sold as raw materials with low added value. The absence of a strong downstreaming strategy has limited the sector's contribution to farmers' welfare and national industrial development. In fact, the potential to develop a local essential oil-based perfume industry is considerable, especially when integrated with sustainability principles and community empowerment. This study aims to examine the practices of essential oil perfume downstreaming in Indonesia in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals, while identifying supporting and inhibiting factors, as well as existing research gaps. The research method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of 21 peer-reviewed scientific articles selected through clear inclusion criteria. Thematic analysis was applied to synthesize major findings from each study. The review reveals that downstreaming success is influenced by technological innovation in extraction, consumer preference for natural and eco-friendly products, as well as the importance of authentication systems and digital marketing strategies. It also shows that Goals 12, 9, and 3 are the most frequently associated with the issue. This study concludes that essential oil perfume downstreaming has significant potential as a sustainable, inclusive, and community-based industrial strategy that can contribute meaningfully to sustainable development in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the management strategies of coastal areas in supporting the transition toward a green economy in Gunungkidul Regency. The management of coastal zones often faces challenges in balancing economic development with environmental sustainability. Therefore, a strategic approach that integrates social, economic, and ecological dimensions is essential. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through field observations, in-depth interviews with local stakeholders, and the analysis of relevant policy documents. The findings reveal that the local government has implemented various strategies, such as enhancing active community participation in planning and monitoring, promoting participatory coastal ecosystem conservation, and integrating social values into policy formulation. These strategies are consistent with green economy principles emphasizing resource efficiency, low carbon emissions, and social equity. Moreover, efforts to strengthen local institutional capacities and foster environmentally-based microenterprises are integral components of the transition strategy. The main challenges identified include limited public literacy on sustainability, inadequate access to green technologies, and weak cross-sectoral coordination. The study concludes that strengthening multi-sector collaboration, increasing public education, and aligning policies with green development goals are essential to the successful implementation of the green economy in coastal areas. These findings are expected to provide strategic input for local governments and policymakers in designing inclusive and sustainable coastal development programs.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to enhance the skills and economic independence of residents in Duren Jaya Subdistrict, East Bekasi, through a training program on producing dish soap (sabun colek) using low-cost but economically valuable materials. The main problem faced by the community was the lack of access to practical and affordable home-based business opportunities. The method used in this program was participatory training consisting of two stages: an educational session to introduce the benefits and business potential of sabun colek, followed by a hands-on demonstration of the production process. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills. After the training, 80% of participants were able to produce the soap independently, compared to only 10% before the activity. Some participants also began producing and selling the soap on their own, with a potential profit of IDR 200,000–400,000 per month. The success of this program was not only reflected in technical skills, but also in increased community participation, environmental support, and the availability of local raw materials. This activity demonstrates that a practical skills-based approach supported by interdisciplinary collaboration can effectively promote sustainable economic independence at the community level
