Abstract

The independent curriculum, which was expected to serve as a bridge following the slowdown in the learning process during Covid-19, has instead created new problems in its implementation. This is because the application of this curriculum lacked preparation from various parties. The History Teachers' Working Group (MGMP Sejarah) in Kudus District is one of the users encountering challenges in implementing the independent curriculum. The issues faced include: understanding the implementation of the independent curriculum and its application in teaching, especially in the development of teaching modules for Phase F in history education, which is still very limited. There is a lack of teachers' strategies in implementing the independent curriculum in schools, and a shortage of activities that support the skills and understanding of partners to implement the independent curriculum. To address these problems, the service team and partners agreed to conduct training and mentoring activities for the implementation of the independent curriculum, especially in developing Phase F teaching modules for history subjects in partner schools. The method used for this activity is training. Based on the conducted activities, it was found that participants' responses, as indicated by the survey, showed that the objectives of this service activity have been achieved. The evaluation results of the training activities, including participants' enthusiasm, level of participation, and understanding of the training materials, were very high. While the overall evaluation of the service activities also showed positive responses, there are still some areas that need improvement.

Abstract

Abstract: The existence of the city of Semarang on the island of Java was quite important because it became an important trade network for the archipelago and the world at that time. This progress still has a negative side, namely capitalism in Semarang which does not side with the fate of the workers and only profits from the workers who come to work, accompanied by no efforts to improve the welfare of these workers. Sneevliet and Semaun who were communist figures opposed the capitalist influence brought by the Netherlands colonial government by mobilizing trade unions. Later in 1919, Semaun, who was a member of the Islamic Union, established his own organization, namely Havenarbeidersbond which was later renamed the Sea and Warehouse Union. The method used in this study is the historical research method by Kuntowijoyo, namely: topic selection, heuristic, verification, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study show that in an effort to improve the welfare of workers, Tanjung Emas Semarang port labor organizations were formed. Furthermore, this organization carried out strike actions to demand an increase in wages and the welfare of workers. However, in its implementation, this organization was actually involved and ridden by the PKI. The government at that time certainly did not like labor organizations affiliated with the PKI. Until finally many arrests and exiles of workers and PKI members, as well as the dimming of the activities of port labor organizations in Semarang.

Abstract

Many local histories in Indonesia remain unnoticed by learners. Learning materials that inform the local histories are generally limited, boring, and do not fit and attract today’s learners, especially those available in English. We investigated the potential of an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom project that promotes and celebrates local histories in Indonesia through (digital) comics. The comics were developed by second-year university students majoring in history (n=156) working in groups of three or four. A total of 51 comics with various themes related to Indonesian local histories were successfully created and exhibited virtually on a designated Instagram account. A questionnaire with a 5-point Likert scale containing 12 statements and two open-ended questions was employed to examine the impact of this project-based learning on students’ understanding and awareness of conserving their local histories through comics. We analyzed the results using SPSS (for quantitative data) and thematic analysis (for qualitative data). Findings indicate that students believe a comic is an interesting medium for learning local history and that local histories in Indonesia need to be promoted via various media, including comics. Future research should investigate the effects of English comics on students’ comprehension of local history in Indonesia and linguistic competence in history-related vocabulary and pronunciation.

Abstract

This study highlights the importance of differentiated learning in the context of Generation Z who have unique characteristics, such as critical thinking, desire for quick feedback, and technology literacy. Differentiated learning aims to meet individual learning needs by modifying four main components: content, process, product, and learning environment. Analysis of history teachers in Central Java Province shows that although most teachers have implemented some aspects of differentiated learning, there are obstacles in relevant and effective evaluation and assessment. To address this, a training program has been implemented to improve teacher competency in developing adaptive assessments, both formative and summative. The results of the training showed an increase in teachers' understanding and skills in implementing the principles of differentiated learning that are more inclusive and equitable.

Abstract

This research discusses the track record of a student organization called Menwa at the UNNES campus from 1976 to 2000. Menwa UNNES was established in 1976, with its first headquarters in the Karya Graha building, Kelud campus of IKIP Semarang. This research uses historical methods, beginning with collecting sources known as heuristics. These sources consist of archival documents and interviews, supported by secondary sources as complements. The author then interprets the collected data, determining the interconnected meanings of the obtained facts to form a coherent narrative. The final stage is historiography or writing the findings from the research process. The research results show that the existence of Menwa within the UNNES campus aimed to create state defense cadres and maintain a sense of patriotism among students despite rejection from several groups. Similar issues occurred on other campuses. At its peak, renewing the Menwa SKB to resolve frequent disputes became necessary. Menwa experienced ups and downs due to various internal and external factors. Despite these challenges, Menwa UNNES significantly impacted the campus, achieving accomplishments and serving the community at both national and international levels.

Abstract

This article describes the spread of and response to HIV in Semarang City, particularly from 2013, when Semarang City Regional Regulation No. 4/2013 was issued, until 2021, when the Komisi Penanggulangan AIDS (KPA) Semarang City was merged into the Dinas Kesehatan Kota (DKK) Semarang. The average number of HIV cases that occurred in Semarang City during 2013-2021 was 535. This paper aims to examine how the conditions of Semarang City affect the spread of HIV, as well as how the HIV-AIDS response was carried out by the Semarang City government from the beginning of the issuance of Semarang City Regional Regulation Number 4 of 2013 until the dissolution of Semarang City KPA in 2021. The method used in this research is the historical research method, in the form of: collecting sources (heuristics); verifying the sources found (source criticism); interpreting the sources (interpretation); and presenting in written form (historiography). During the writing process, the author collected various types of sources ranging from interviews, archives, books, and journal articles obtained from various related institutions through both offline and online processes. The author also conducted direct research in the field. The results of this paper map the distribution of PLWHA by health center, explain the development of VCT services in Semarang City, HIV cases from 2013-2021, and government efforts in tackling HIV/AIDS in Semarang City. Semarang City, which often holds the first position of the largest number of HIV cases throughout Central Java, continues to maximize the HIV prevention process. The increasing number of cases is considered the success of the government and its staff in reaching PLHIV through VCT programs that are routinely carried out in health facilities. Programs conducted by the city government in collaboration with agencies included in the KPA membership can be said to be increasingly efficient every year. Various prevention activities that directly approach Key Populations (Populasi Kunci/Ponci) have been carried out until now

Abstract

Abstract: Indonesia has plenty of national heroes. In education, they have the potential as a medium for transmitting values and character education. From 1959 to 2023, the president awarded the title of hero to 206 people. This number will continue to increase every year. However, the contribution of learning about national heroes has not been studied in depth. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze how national heroes' mapping in history class and the heroes' position in the Indonesian History curriculum. This paper also examines the internalization of heroic values and obstacles encountered in historical learning. Data was collected on policies related to hero titles, curriculum documents, history textbooks, and learning cases about national heroes in Semarang City. The results showed that historical learning in the Indonesian curriculum accommodated the teaching of heroes. Some material addressed the role of the hero explicitly. However, not all heroes were conveyed in the lesson. Overproduction of heroes was counterproductive to students' recognition of the value of heroism. On the one hand, the role of local heroes had not been optimally reviewed. As a result, history learning was stuck on the term "learning about heroes." History learning has not entirely made students "learn from heroes" or "learn to be heroes."

Abstract

Objective:The importance of developing strong character and good morals in individuals in facing the challenges and changes brought about by digital technology. The importance of character education in equipping learners with the concept of Ki Hajar Dewantara in the holistic and sustainable independent curriculum. Method: This research utilizes a qualitative descriptive approach by conducting literature and case studies in schools. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documents related to the curriculum and implementation of character education. Results: of the study indicate that the education transformation adopting the concept of Ki Hajar Dewantara in the independent curriculum has a positive impact on students' character development. Concepts of character education such as cooperation, independence, love for the homeland, and diversity are well integrated into learning practices. Through this approach, students become more active, motivated, and capable of developing positive attitudes, moral values, and social skills. Novelty: The research identifies several challenges in applying Ki Hajar Dewantara’s concept within the independent curriculum, including curriculum alignment with student needs, teachers’ readiness, and the required support from schools and stakeholders. The study finds that this concept has strong potential to nurture excellent character in the independent curriculum. Its novelty lies in presenting a clear integrative analysis that connects Ki Hajar Dewantara’s philosophical principles with the operational framework of the independent curriculum an approach not explicitly formulated in previous studies. This contribution enhances understanding of character education’s role in holistic and sustainable educational transformation.
