Abstract

Raw material inventory planning is a crucial aspect in the manufacturing industry to ensure smooth production and cost efficiency. However, PT XYZ has not implemented a forecasting method in its raw material planning system, so that procurement decisions are still reactive to actual demand. This study aims to analyze and compare forecasting methods using Double Exponential Smoothing (DES) and Moving Average (MA) to determine the most accurate method in projecting raw material needs for Non-API spec pipe products, type ASTM A252 GR 2 at KT 24 PT XYZ. The data used is historical demand data, which is then analyzed using POM-QM for Windows software. The results of the analysis show that the Moving Average method with a two-month period (MA-2) has the smallest Mean Squared Error (MSE), which is 182067, and a Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) value of 1.24%, which indicates a higher level of accuracy than other methods. Thus, the MA-2 method is recommended to be implemented in PT XYZ's raw material planning system to improve production efficiency and reduce the risk of excess or shortage of stock. For further research, it is recommended to develop a forecasting model by considering external factors such as market trends and seasonality, and integrating machine learning or hybrid forecasting methods to improve prediction accuracy. In addition, the implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)-based system with a forecasting module can also be a solution for long-term planning efficiency.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency of ordering chlorine for one year at PT. Toya Indo Manunggal using the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) method, to determine the cost of chlorine supplies of PT. Toya Indo Manunggal with the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) method, as well as to analyze the results of the application of the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) method. The research method used in this study is the economic order quantity (EOQ) model. Data collection techniques are used to collect data according to research procedures so that the required data is obtained. The data used is secondary data in the form of literature studies, namely conducting literature research by reading and researching materials or theories related to chlorine supplies, and Economic Order Quantity (EOQ). The results showed that the frequency of ordering chlorine for one year at PT. Toya Indo Manunggal uses the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) method of 112 chlorine cylinders per order with a total of 13 orders in one year, the distance between times reaches 20 days per order, and the company must provide security storage or Safety Stock of 142 chlorine cylinders with goods reorder activities when the inventory of the goods is 178 pcs. From data analysis, the total cost of inventory using the EOQ method is Rp. 940,802,000, while the total cost of inventory with orders above and below EOQ is Rp. 1,034,137,777 and Rp. 985,012,631, respectively. Every order for goods above or below the EOQ order will affect the cost of inventory, where the cost of inventory that occurs is greater than the cost of EOQ inventory. With the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) method, companies can find out how many orders are economical for each inventory item and find out the frequency of orders during a period and when orders are made again, so that the demand for goods can be fulfilled optimally.

Abstract

In the cigarette paper industry, pallet packaging plays a crucial role in the supply chain. It helps protect cigarette paper from physical damage and environmental factors during transportation and storage. PT BM  faces several challenges, one of which is inefficiency in inventory management, leading to unnecessary costs in production and distribution processes. This study applies the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) method to determine the optimal order quantity of raw materials, ensuring a smooth production process. The calculation results show that implementing the EOQ method leads to more efficient total inventory costs compared to the company's previous ordering policy. For local pallets, the optimal order quantity changed from 3,600 sets ordered 12 times per year (costing Rp 43,200,000.00) to 514,208 sets ordered only 3 times per year (costing Rp 10,800,000.00). A similar improvement was observed for export pallets, where the order quantity changed from 3,600 sets ordered 24 times per year (costing Rp 52,200,000.00) to 338,327 sets ordered only 3 times per year (costing Rp 6,525,000.00). Additionally, the total inventory cost using the EOQ method was recorded at Rp 38,333,333.33 for local pallets and Rp 36,912,500.00 for export pallets. Keywords: EOQ, Inventory, Pallet Packaging
