Abstract

Pengelolaan Kawasan Konservasi Perairan (KKP) Fakfak membutuhkan evaluasi untuk memastikan bahwa rencana pengelolaan telah dilaksanakan secara efektif. Evaluasi dilaksanakan menggunakan Evaluasi Efektivitas Pengelolaan Kawasan Konservasi (EVIKA). EVIKA telah ditetapkan sebagai instrumen alat ukur pengelolaan kawasan yang telah diterapkan secara luas pada kawasan konservasi perairan di Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan hasil EVIKA selama tiga tahun (2021-2023) KKP Fakfak, untuk melihat tren perkembangannya dan menunjukkan hasil yang nyata. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kontribusi kriteria lebih banyak pada kriteria input dan proses, sedangkan kriteria output dan outcome capaiannya masih sangat rendah. Faktor-faktor yang berkontribusi baik terhadap pengelolaan KKP Fakfak disumbangkan oleh indikator pengetahuan masyarakat dari komponen output, penjangkauan dan pengawasan dari komponen proses, dan sumber daya manusia, rencana pengelolaan, rencana zonasi dan status kawasan dari komponen input.

Abstract

This study investigates the characteristics of substrates in seagrass habitats within Doreri Bay, Manokwari District, and their relationship with seagrass species composition. The research aims to assess the type, density, and percentage of seagrass cover, alongside the substrate characteristics in the region. Data were collected between March and May 2020 using the line transect method, while water quality data were gathered in situ. The study found seven seagrass species in Doreri Bay, with densities ranging from 1058 ind/m² to 1457 ind/m² and a cover percentage between 17% and 30%. Substrate types included calcareous, gravel, sands, and silt, each influencing the distribution of seagrass species. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) revealed correlations between specific seagrass species and substrate types: Cymodocea rotundata and Halodule pinifolia correlated with silt, while Thalassia hemprichii was associated with fine sand substrates. The results indicate that substrate characteristics play a significant role in seagrass distribution and biodiversity in Doreri Bay. The study's findings have important implications for the region's management and conservation of seagrass ecosystems, suggesting that targeted efforts to protect specific substrate types can support seagrass health.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The coastal area of Makimi Village, Makimi District, Nabire Regency is an important nesting site for the olive ridley turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) with unique characteristics as its nests are located near residential areas that help protect the nesting sites. This research aims to determine the physical and biological parameters of the olive ridley turtle nesting habitat in Makimi Village, Makimi District, Nabire Regency. The research was conducted during the nesting season from February 1 to August 31, 2023. The results showed that The physical characteristics of Makimi Village Beach include an average beach width of 30 m, with a beach category ranging from sloping (6-39°) to steep (with a slope greater than 40°). The most common substrate in the nesting area is fine sand (60.05%), followed by very fine sand (25.77%). There were 11 nesting holes with temperatures ranging from 27°C to 31°C, with an average of 28.12°C to 30.87°C. The pH levels ranged from 5.5 to 7, and the average humidity was between 50% and 74%. The types of beach vegetation in the olive ridley turtle nesting area are dominated by six plant species: goat's foot creeper (Ipomoea pescaprae), waru tree (Hibiscus tiliaceus), pongam tree (Pongamia pinnata), sea almond (Terminalia catappa), coastal she-oak (Casuarina equisetifolia), and coconut palm (Cocos nucifera).

Abstract

The vulnerability of mangrove habitats to environmental changes driven by anthropogenic activities and climate change is a critical concern for sustainable ecosystem management. This study assesses the vulnerability of mangrove habitats along the coastal area of Biak Timur District, Papua, using the Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI) method. The CVI integrates five key variables: coastline profile, duration of tidal inundation, maximum tidal inundation height, salinity, and substrate type. Coastline profile data were derived from a decadal analysis (2013–2023) of shoreline changes. Tidal inundation duration and height were obtained through tidal data analysis, while salinity and substrate data were collected through field surveys and laboratory analyses. Each variable was scored and weighted within the CVI framework. The results indicate that the mangrove habitat in Biak Timur is in the "high vulnerability" category, with a CVI score of 5.69. This suggests a significant susceptibility to degradation from environmental changes, particularly those caused by human activities and climate change. Effective management should focus on minimising anthropogenic impacts and promoting sustainable use of mangrove resources.

Abstract

Kajian tentang nilai ekonomi ekosistem mangrove sangat penting dilakukan untuk mengatasi permasalahan yang terjadi dalam pengelolaan ekosistem mangrove. Penilaian ekonomi mangrove dengan justifikasi dan pendekatan ilmiah yang tepat dapat digunakan untuk memperkirakan nilai submberdaya pada ekosistem mangrove. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis nilai ekonomi total ekosistem mangrove untuk berbagai pemanfaatan dan menganalisis faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kesediaan membayar masyarakat terhadap manfaat keberadaaan ekosistem mangrove di Kampung Air Mandidi Kabupaten Nabire. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Mei – Juli 2023. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode survei dan metode wawancara. Penentuan jumlah responden dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode purposive sampling, yaitu pengambilan sampel secara sengaja dari responden yang mengetahui dan memahami keadaan ekosistem mangrove di lokasi penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kawasan ekosistem mangrove Kampung Air Mandidi seluas 94,57 ha mempunyai nilai manfaat ekonomi total sebesar Rp. 4.725.928.149/tahun dengan penyumbang nilai manfaat terbesar adalah dari nilai manfaat langsung. Nilai manfaat ekonomi total dapat dijadikan acuan atau dasar pembanding bagi masyarakat dan pemerintah dalam menentukan kebijakan pengelolaan dan pemanfaatan hutan mangrove yang ada. Secara parsial faktor yang berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap kesediaan membayar masyarakat atau Willingness To Pay (WTP) terhadap keberadaan ekosistem mangrove adalah faktor pendapatan dengan nilai sig 0.00 < α 0.05. Sedangkan faktor usia, tingkat pendidikan jumlah tanggungan dan lama tinggal tidak berpengaruh secara signifikan.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  The problem faced by the society of Mubraidiba Village for a long time has been catching turtles. The caught turtles are used for the family's protein needs and some are sold as family income and are also preserved to be used as wall decorations. This has resulted in the number of turtles decreasing over time. The purpose of the KKN-PPM program is to implement the knowledge that students have in carrying out turtle conservation together with the Manduni Putra Joint Business Group and the community of Mubraidiba village on the coast of North Manokwari District. Implementation of this activity consists of 1) potential mapping and problem identification; 2) preparation of program and activity plans; and 3) program socialization. The program will be implemented for two months (19 June -15 August 2020). The results of the monitoring did not find any turtles landing on Astelin Beach, Mubraidiba Village, so activities continued on Muara Prafi Beach, where quite a lot of turtles were still landing because the environmental conditions were still natural. Egg transfer activities were carried out twice on July 20 and July 22, 2020, with 114 green turtles and 102 olive ridley turtles. Hatching success was 94.2% and hatchling rearing success was 78.4%. The number of hatchlings released into the sea was 80, this activity was a form of outreach to the community of Mubraidiba Village and surrounding villages.  Keywords: Turtle Conservation; Mubraidiba Village; Community Outreach; Egg Relocation; KKN-PPM    ABSTRAK Permasalahan yang dihadapi masyarakat Kampung Mubraidiba sejak dahulu telah melakukan penangkapan penyu. Penyu yang ditangkap dimanfaatkan untuk kebutuhan protein keluarga dan sebagian dijual sebagai pendapatan keluarga dan juga diawetkan untuk dijadikan hiasan dinding. Hal ini mengakibatkan jumlah penyu mengalami penurunan dari waktu ke waktu. Tujuan program KKN-PPM adalah mengimplementasikan pengetahuan yang dimiliki mahasiswa melakukan konservasi penyu bersama dengan Kelompok Usaha Bersama (KUB) Manduni Putra dan masyarakat Kampung Mubraidiba di pesisir pantai Distrik Manokwari Utara. Pelaksanaan kegiatan ini terdiri dari: 1) pemetaan potensi dan identifikasi masalah; 2) penyusunan rencana program dan kegiatan; 3) sosialisasi program. Pelaksanaan program selama dua bulan (19 Juni -15 Agustus 2020). Hasil monitoring tidak menjumpai penyu yang mendarat di Pantai Astelin Kampung Mubraidiba, sehingga kegiatan dilanjutkan di Pantai Muara Prafi yang masih cukup banyak penyu yang mendarat karena kondisi lingkungan masih alami. Kegiatan pemindahan telur dilakukan 2 kali tanggal 20 Juli dan 22 Juli 2020, penyu hijau sebanyak 114 butir dan penyu lekang 102 butir. Sukses penetesan sebesar 94,2% dan sukses pemeliharaan tukik 78,4%. Jumlah tukik yang dilepas liarkan ke laut sebanyak 80 ekor, kegiatan ini sebagai bentuk sosialisasi kepada masyarakat Kampung Mubraidiba dan kampung sekitarnya. Abstract

Kerang Gafrarium pectinatum, dengan nama lokal mambekorai, ditemukan pada ekosistem mangrove di pesisir Manokwari Selatan, Papua Barat. Sampai saat ini, spesies kerang ini masih dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat setempat sebagai makanan. Penelitian mengenai populasi kerang G. pectinatum di lokasi ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pola pertumbuhan dan parameter pertumbuhan yang meliputi panjang asimtotik (Lµ), koefisien pertumbuhan (K), dan perkiraan umur (t0). Sampel kerang dikumpulkan pada tiga zona (bagian bawah, tengah, dan atas) dengan menggunakan metode transek dan kuadrat. Pada setiap sampel kerang dilakukan pengukuran panjang cangkang dan berat total. Sebanyak 194 individu kerang berhasil dikumpulkan. Ukuran panjang cangkang dan berat total secara berturut-turut berkisar di antara 19,6-44,1 mm dan 2,15-30,74 g. Nilai b yang diperoleh sebesar 0,7214 dengan pola pertumbuhan alometrik negatif yang menunjukan bahwa pertambahan panjang cangkang lebih cepat dibandingkan berat totalnya. L∞, K dan t0 secara berturut-turut sebesar 45,94 mm, 0,96 tahun-1, dan -0,15 tahun. Hasil penelitian diharapkan dapat menjadi acuan dalam memantau perubahan kondisi populasi kerang, sehingga upaya pengelolaannya dapat berlangsung dengan baik dan keberadaan sumber daya hayati ini dapat dipertahankan.

Abstract

The manyung fish, locally known as 'ikan sembilang' (family Ariidae), is a large demersal species inhabiting marine and estuarine waters, commonly found near river mouths. This study aimed to identify the species composition, catch yield, fishing gear, and traditional processing methods for manyung fish in the estuarine waters of Teluk Bintuni Regency, West Papua, Indonesia. Research was conducted from October to November 2023 at three sites: Masui and Tahiti in East Bintuni District, and SP 4 in Manimeri, West Bintuni District. A total of 49 individual fish and 15 tissue samples for DNA analysis were collected. The results identified eight distinct manyung species. The total catch yield at the respective locations was 69.64 kg, 48.56 kg, and 46.35 kg. Fishermen primarily used gillnets (locally termed 'pele') and handlines. The local community processes the catch traditionally through smoking and salting methods.

Abstract

The intertidal zone of Nusi Island, Nabire Regency, is a habitat for sea cucumbers. Nusi Island is part of a group of small islands administratively located in Makimi District and is privately managed by the Kipuw family, implementing the “sasi” customary system, which regulates resource utilization. This study aims to identify sea cucumber species and analyze their abundance on Nusi Island as baseline information for island owners and local government. The study was conducted from June to August 2023. A total of 13 sea cucumber species were identified, belonging to four genera: Holothuria (four species), Bohadschia (six species), Pearsonothuria (one species), and Actinopyga (two species). The abundance of sea cucumbers in the first, second, and third observations was 91 individuals/250 m² (0.36 individuals/m²), 49 individuals/250 m² (0.20 individuals/m²), and 37 individuals/250 m² (0.15 individuals/m²), respectively. The mean total abundance of sea cucumbers on Nusi Island was 177 individuals per 250 m² (0.71 individuals/m²). The highest relative abundance was found in the sand sea cucumber (Holothuria scabra), followed by the banded sea cucumber (Actinopyga bannwarthi), while the eyed sea cucumber (Bohadschia ocelata) showed the lowest relative abundance. The relatively even distribution of individuals among species suggests that the sea cucumber community structure is comparatively stable and well-balanced. Environmental parameters, including pH, salinity, and temperature, were within the appropriate range for sea cucumber survival. This study provides baseline data to support the designation of conservation or limited-use zones and to guide sustainable sea cucumber management within an integrated coastal management (ICM) framework.
