Abstract

Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country that has cultural diversity, both ethnicity, language, and religion. This diversity can be used as capital for integrating and understanding culture in the education system. In essence, education is the right of every Indonesian citizen, so that the learning process is expected to be carried out according to the interests, talents, and cultural background of each student. Such a learning process aims to equalize the cultural position of students and not create gaps or discrimination in each student. Thus, researchers were moved to apply the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach for cultural understanding in learning saga texts with the subjects of grade X students at Semarang city high school. This approach is a learning approach that can be adapted to the cultural background of students. Learning with this approach is expected to introduce each other's culture between students so that cultural understanding can be produced without gaps and a sense of discrimination. Therefore, learning with this approach will create a safe and comfortable learning environment for each individual, especially in learning class X saga texts at Semarang city high school.

Abstract

This study examines the character education values contained in the Punden folklore of Dukun Subdistrict, Gresik Regency, aiming to uncover the potential of folklore as a medium for character education. The objects of the study are five Punden stories from the western, central, and eastern regions of the subdistrict. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method, specifically ethnographic research. The ethnographic approach is used to understand the values embedded in the five Punden stories, collected through interviews, recordings, and note-taking. The informants were determined using snowball sampling, and data validation was conducted through theory triangulation. Data analysis utilized descriptive and content analysis techniques. The findings reveal that the Punden stories are rich in character values based on religion, Pancasila, culture, and national education goals, with only three values—patriotism, environmental care, and love for reading—not identified. The emerging values include religiousness, honesty, tolerance, discipline, hard work, creativity, independence, democracy, curiosity, nationalism, appreciation of achievements, communicativeness, love of peace, social care, and responsibility. The results indicate that Punden folklore can serve as an effective means to develop students' character. The discussion highlights the importance of these values in character education and their potential as teaching materials. Therefore, it is recommended that the Punden stories from Dukun Subdistrict be utilized as teaching materials, with the development of appropriate teaching modules. The conclusion asserts that Punden folklore holds significant relevance for character education, supports the preservation of local culture, and suggests its inclusion in the educational curriculum.

Abstract

Listening skills are basic skills that are important in language learning, but are often underdeveloped due to uninteresting learning methods. In the context of learning Indonesian, especially in listening to fable texts, students often have difficulty understanding the contents of the text in depth. This phenomenon can be caused by low student involvement due to the use of monotonous learning methods and the lack of utilization of technology or media that are relevant to the needs of today's students. Therefore, an innovative approach is needed to increase students' interest and ability in listening. This study focuses on analyzing the extent to which the Omaggio strategy supported by animated video media can provide a significant impact on improving the ability to listen to fable texts in class X students. The purpose of this study was to test the effect of the Omaggio strategy with the help of animated video media on the ability to listen to fable texts of class X students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kota Sukabumi. This study uses a quantitative method in the form of an experiment with a true experimental design involving an experimental group that applies the Omaggio strategy and a control group whose learning uses conventional learning methods. The posttest results showed an average value of the control class of 77.78 with a total score of 2,100, while the experimental class achieved an average value of 84.4 with a total score of 2,280. The t-test showed a significant value (p 0.05), with the calculation results of t_count t_table, which proves that the Omaggio strategy significantly improves students' listening skills. The difference in total value of 180 and the difference in average value of 6.62 indicate that the Omaggio strategy has a positive influence on the listening skills of fable texts of class X students of SMA Muhammadiyah Kota Sukabumi in the 2024/2025 Academic Year.

Abstract

Fusheng Liu Ji ‘Six Records of a Floating Life’ is the autobiographical prose composed by an intellectual Shen Fu in the High Qing era, which chronicles his impoverished life featured by both sorrow and exaltation. A substantial portion of the work concerns Shen’s wife named Yun, who is adulated as one of the most meritorious women in Chinese literature by an illustrious writer and translator Lin Yutang. From a pre-modern perspective, in her postnuptial life, Yun complies with the Confucian teachings prescribing women’s conduct, virtue and demeanour, viz. ‘Three Obediences and Four Virtues’; additionally, Yun exhibits filial piety which is also a preponderant creed in imperial China. From a modern perspective, Yun demonstrates proto-feminist thinking and sentimentality that defy orthodox institutions, embodied by her courageous cross-dressing and harmonious matrimonial relationship enriched by profound emotional devotion and physical intimacy. Furthermore, Yun is equipped with intelligence, generosity, romantic spirit and artistic temperament, and is hence eulogised by her husband for possessing a mentality and merits like a man, which, I posit, is the ultimate accolade in a patriarchal context.

Abstract

This study examines the process of translating song lyrics from Javanese to Indonesian, focusing on the translation techniques used by Mad Lyric, a popular YouTube channel known for its song translations. The increasing popularity of Javanese songs plays a significant role in preserving cultural heritage, but translating song lyrics poses challenges in maintaining the authenticity of meaning and linguistic style. The aim of this study is to identify the translation techniques applied by Mad Lyric and to understand how they preserve meaning and style in the translated lyrics. A descriptive qualitative approach with content analysis was used, focusing on the lyrics translated by Mad Lyric on their YouTube channel. The data were analyzed based on translation techniques, such as literal translation, reduction, amplification, and modulation. The results show that Mad Lyric prioritizes maintaining the original message while adapting it into a more natural and easily understandable style in Indonesian. Modulation and amplification techniques were more dominant in preserving the original nuance of the lyrics while adjusting expressions to the target language. These findings highlight the importance of understa  nding cultural and linguistic contexts in music translation, which ultimately enhances the quality of interlanguage translation while preserving the essence of the original message.

Abstract

This study examines the psychology of the main character in the novel Rumah Tanpa Cahaya by Regita-Lenn Liu. The research aims to identify the psychological conflict experienced by the main character, Natta, through Sigmund Freud's personality theory (id, ego, superego) that illustrates the mental turmoil caused by family dynamics. The methodology used is hermeneutic qualitative analysis, focusing on symbolic and textual interpretation. The results of the analysis show that Natta experiences internal conflict between desire (id), reality (ego), and moral values (superego), especially in her relationship with her younger brother, Alie, who is ostracised by his family. This conflict shapes Natta's decisions, showing that the id has an important role in the positive actions she takes, despite going against her social environment. This study reveals that psychological elements in novels can provide an in-depth understanding of the complexity of characters and their impact on the storyline. The implication is that psychological analysis of literature helps readers understand personality dynamics in fictional narratives and their relevance to real-life conflicts.
