Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the NDF and ADF content of rice strawfermented with several types of microorganism at different temperatures. Rice straw wasobtained from rice fields in Ishigaki District, Okinawa, Japan. The types of microbes usedwere Lactobacillus fermentum, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus coagulant Saccharomycescerevisiae, and Aspergillus niger. The mainplot was temperature (25, 35, 45°C) and thesubplot was microorganism. Each treatment has 3 replications. There were two groups forcontrols, i.e. the control without molasses and the control with molasses. The rice strawfermented within 3 weeks. The ADF content in all temperature treatments showed that S.cerevisiae and A. niger treatments were higher (P<0.01) than that in other microorganismtreatments. Hemicellulose content in S. cerevisiae and A. niger were tend to lower (P<0.01)compare to others microorganism treatments in all temperature treatments. The lowesthemicelluloses content of fermented rice straw are showed by S. cerevisiae and A. niger at45°C. These finding suggested that the ADF content were high in S. cerevisiae and A. nigertreatments, but showed decrease in hemicellulose and increase in cellulose and lignin.Key words: rice straw, fermentation, ADF, NDF

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the factors affecting the demand for free-range chicken meat among consumers and to find out the difference of demand between one consumer group and another by demographic characteristics of consumers in traditional markets of Surakarta City. This research was conducted from August 24 to September 21, 2017 in traditional markets of Surakarta City using survey method. This study was a descriptive and associative research. Respondents were 60 (sixty) buyers of free-range chicken meat selected using convenience sampling method. The data obtained consisted of primary and secondary ones. Primary data included demographic characteristics (income, age, education, and family member number), free-range chicken meat price, and broiler chicken meat price. Secondary data included data from Animal Husbandry Service, Central Statistic Bureau, and literature. Data analysis was carried out using a multiple linear regression analysis, followed with determinacy test (R2), F test, t-test and One-way Anova test. From the multiple linear regression analysis, the following equation was obtained = Y = 4.811 – 2.443X1- 4.366X2- 0.038X3+ 5.503X4- 0.248X5- 0.197X6+ 1.518. R2 value was 0.593, meaning that all independent variables affected dependent variable (demand for free-range chicken meat) by 59.3%. The result of Ftest showed Fstatistic12.876 > Ftable 2.275, meaning that H0 was not supported, indicating that independent variables affected simultaneously the dependent one. The result of t test and One-way Anova test showed that age and income partially (individually) affected significantly the demand for free-range chicken meat. The conclusion of research was that all variables affected simultaneously the demand for free-range chicken meat, and age and income factors individually showed the difference of demand for free-range chicken meat in traditional market of Surakarta City.

Abstract

The objective of research was to evaluate the effect of different level of decomposers from bioethanol waste as a bioactivator to compost nutrient content. The materials used in this study were feces collected from six 3 to 5 years old of male Fresian Holstein (PFH), and decomposer agents from processed-bioethanol waste. The experimental design used was completely randomized design with four treatments and six replications, i.e. P1: 0.4% of decomposer, P2: 0.5% of decomposer, P3: 0.6% of decomposer, P4: 0.7 of decomposer %. Analysis of nutrient contents of compost was conducted at the the Laboratory of Chemistry and Soil Fertility, Department of Soil Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Gajah Mada University, Yogyakarta. Data analysis was performed using Minitab 17 software. The results of the analysis of variance showed that different levels of decomposer affected organic C, phosphor (P), Kalium (K), and Magnesium (Mg). Organic C, P, K, and Mg contents were found highest in P2, on the other hand N and Ca contents, C/N ratio, pH, and temperature of compost were not different among treatments. It could be concluded that compost made with 0.5% decomposer agents from processed-bioethanol waste was the best.
