Abstract

This study explores the burgeoning trend of Islamic attire (pakaian syar'i) among millennials in Indonesia. Employing a multidisciplinary approach involving text analysis and sociological perspectives, the research aims to deeply understand Muslim women's attire within Islamic tradition and its Indonesian context. The analysis begins with scrutinizing hadīths related to standards of Muslim women's clothing and the perspectives of Islamic scholars. Additionally, it uncovers that scholars universally agree on four clothing aspects: looseness, non-transparency, dissimilarity to opposite gender clothing, and covering intimate parts (‘Awrah). Moreover, the research identifies the trend of Islamic attire evolving into a religious commodity. In contemporary society, a clear divide exists between Islamic attire and general Muslim women's clothing. The discourse on Islamic attire has gained prominence, influencing both majorities and minorities. Initially a minority perspective, the Islamic attire label and its associated phenomenon are now a dominant fashion trend, sparking debates and discussions.

Abstract

Wind and rain are natural phenomena around us that are considered normal. In fact, both can only happen with the power of Allah SWT, humans are unable to intervene in it. Scholars have interpreted verses related to wind and rain from a linguistic perspective, but this is not enough to explain this phenomenon more fully. This research was prepared as an effort to complete thematic interpretation studies to reveal the relationship between wind and rain in the Al-Quran using a scientific interpretation method approach and meteorological analysis. The method used is literature study by referring to the tafsir of al-Thabari, Ibn Kathir and al-Tantawi as well as scientific articles in the field of meteorology. The results of the study show that; There are seven verses in the Koran regarding wind (al-Riyah) which are related to rain. Not all wind is related to rain. Wind can help the process of forming clouds and moving clouds, help the rotation of the rainy season, and be a source of information about the rainy season or daily rain events. However, there are interpretations from several Muslim scholars that are not in accordance with current meteorological studies. This is possible due to limited knowledge when the interpretation was made or limited understanding and references by the author more broadly in the field of meteorology.

Abstract

In academic studies, the Qur'an has become a subject of intellectual discussions and has undergone significant development, engaging with the community on both interpersonal and inter-cognitive levels. Scholarly discourse on the Qur'an has progressed from descriptive-narrative analysis to critical analysis. This article examines the evolution of thought in Qur'anic studies within the academic community, using two analytical frameworks: the Framework of Qur'anic Studies and the history of ideas. The first framework categorizes the types and genres of Qur'anic studies, while the second analyzes shifts in thought related to studying the Qur'an. The article concludes that the evolution of thought in Qur'anic studies has resulted in a Traditionalist-Critical model, characterized by a transmission-theological dimension, with two distinct periods: the initial focus on idraki-ta'rifi (knowledge/understanding of the Qur'an) and a subsequent shift to tadris-naqdi studies (critical studies of the Qur'an). Additionally, the development of Qur'anic studies has led to the creation of a model within the Qur'anic Studies Framework, encompassing Al-Qira'ah Alquran (reading and reciting the Qur'an), Tafhim Alquran (linguistic study and interpretation), Ta'riful Qur'an (introducing new perspectives in Qur'anic knowledge), and Ta'limatul Qur'an (social-community context and analysis of Qur'anic teachings).

Abstract

Hadith Trends in Society: Exploration of the Development of Hadith Themes Through Instagram Social Media AnalysisThe discourse surrounding hadith wields a complex influence on society. Serving as the second guiding source after the Quran, hadith not only functions as a spiritual guide but also as a tool for legitimization and justification within various social and political contexts. In the contemporary digital era, especially on social media platforms such as Instagram, the understanding, interpretation, and utilization of hadith by the public have become highly significant. This virtual field research aims to investigate hadith trends within society through the analysis of three Instagram accounts: @nuonline_id, @tausiyahku_, and @muslimahnewsid, employing Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) that explores the relationship between language, power, and ideology. In this study, Fairclough’s approach assists in delving into the use of hadith to construct and perpetuate power dynamics and social values through social media. Through this analysis, the research identifies three main social constructions of hadith: the preservation of NU identity and Aswaja values, viewing hadith as the moral foundation of the Nahdliyin; the reconstruction of social morality through reinterpretations of hadith relevant to contemporary social realities; and the indoctrination of ideology through exclusive and puritanical interpretations of hadith. These findings underscore the complexity of hadith in shaping the identity, morality, and ideology of contemporary society through social media. The implications of this study are profound, indicating that the understanding and application of hadith in social media not only reflect Islamic teachings but also specific socio-political influences and Islamic ideologies. Consequently, this research contributes vital insights into the trends of hadith within digital society, providing a foundation for further discussions about Islam and identity in this digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the genealogy of the verse of religious moderation in Surat Al-Baqarah verse 143 and the efforts contained in the verse to counteract radicalism in this case sample on the tribunnews.com youtube channel. This study used the method of analysis of maudhu'i tafsir on al-Qurtubi's Ahkam al-Quran tafsir, which is one of the famous Sunni-classical tafsir works. Through the analysis of al-Qurtubi's tafsir, it was found that verse 143 of Surat al-Baqarah shows the importance of moderation in religion, which considers the balance between the interests of the individual and the interests of society. Moderation in religion is also associated with the concept of ummatan wasatan which emphasizes justice and balance in life, and sees the response of tafsir al-Qurtubi to see the phenomenon of radicasim that emerged in Indonesia. In addition, this study shows that verse 143 of Surat Al-Baqarah also provides concrete efforts in countering radicalism, namely by showing the importance of respecting differences and avoiding actions that cause divisions in society. The benefit of this research is to provide a deeper understanding of the verse of religious moderation in Surat al-Baqarah verse 143, as well as contribute to countering radicalism. This research can also be used as a reference for future research on the same theme. Overall, this study shows that verse 143 of Surat al-Baqarah has a broad meaning and can provide useful direction in efforts to counteract radicalism and promote religious moderation.

Abstract

Hadith regarding music in the neomodern era became the focus of Muslims, where there were many negative things or deviated from Muslims in consuming music so many Muslims assumed that consuming music in life was something that was unlawful. Using the hermeneutical approach of Fazlur Rahman and Khalid about El-Fadl, a study will be carried out to interpret hadiths about music. This research is a literature review that aims to interpret the hadith about music with the hermeneutics of Fazlur Rahman and Khalid about El-Fadl. The primary source in this research is the hadith about music. In addition, the secondary sources used are in the form of several books and journal articles that have the same research focus. Reinterpretation of hadith based on Fazlur Rahman and Khalid M. Aboue El-Fadl's hermeneutics is generally carried out with three aspects, namely the meaning of hadith texts, a socio-historical approach and interpretation of hadiths. The result of the reinterpretation of the hadith about music is to provide a law that music is permissible within the limits of Islamic law.

Abstract

This article examines the interpretation of the Quran in Minangkabau from the perspectives of the method of interpretation, interpretation techniques, and interpretation schools of thought. Exegesis of the Quran is one of the sciences that Urang Siak (students) must study in the surau. With a passion for the Quran, literature relating to the Quran was discovered, which is the product of scholars from Minangkabau. The literature extends from Mahmud Yunus' Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim to Hamka's Tafsir al-Azhar. This research is a library research using primary sources such as exegesis books by Minangkabau scholars, including Tafsir al-Quran al-Karim by Mahmud Yunus, Tafsir al-Azhar by Hamka, Risālat al-Qawl al-Bayān by Sulaiman al-Rasuli, Kitāb Tafsīr al-Burhān by Abdul Karim Amrullah, and Tafsir al-Azhar by Hamka. The secondary sources include exegesis books and other relevant books. The research is phenomenological and employs a scientific approach to interpretation and a historical approach. The findings indicate that textual interpretation predominates over contextual interpretation. Textual interpretation can be separated into conventional textual interpretation and contemporary textual interpretation. The traditional textual perspective interprets the Quran literally, whereas the contemporary textual perspective employs rational thought as well. The tradition of Minangkabau scholars interpreting the Quran began in the early 19th century, and the Minangkabau interpretation of the Quran cannot be isolated from the influence of Egyptian scholars' interpretations, particularly Tafsr Jallain.

Abstract

This study discusses the scope of digital literacy studied based on Tafsir al-Mishbah. The goal is to find the verses that indirectly explain digital literacy. That way, it will produce a theory on using digital media from an Islamic point of view. So that the Muslim generation, in particular, can keep pace with technological developments and digital literacy capabilities. This research method uses qualitative research with a library research approach. The primary reference is based on Tafsir al-Mishbah, equipped with books and accredited journals. Through this method, it can be found how to explain the verses of the Qur'an about the concept of digital literacy. The study found that terms related to digital literacy can be expressed through the terms iqra', kitabah, and qalam. Furthermore, the principles of digital literacy in Tafsir al-Mishbah are also found, including the use of digital media (QS. al-Qalam: 1, QS.  al-Alaq: 1); the use of digital media (QS. al-Baqarah: 263, QS. al-Isra: 28, QS.  an-Nisâ: 9 and 63); information selection (QS. al-Hujurât: 6, QS. an-Nūr: 11); content dissemination (QS.  al-Hujurât: 12, QS. an-Nūr: 15); maintaining privacy (QS. an-Nūr: 27-28); and creativity in creating content (QS. Hūd: 37). It can be concluded that the concept of digital literacy according to the Qur'an is a means of goodness, a means of communicating by meeting the requirements of Islamic principles, a means of researching and selectively receiving information, a means of spreading hoax news, advice on maintaining personal data, and as a means of developing creativity in content. These Islamic principles can improve a person's digital literacy competence to keep up with the increasingly rapid development of technology.
