Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of technology in English language learning based on the perspectives of teachers and students at SMA Negeri 2 Selakau. The research approach used is descriptive qualitative with data triangulation techniques through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The results showed that teachers used various technological tools such as PowerPoint, learning videos, interactive applications (Kahoot, Quizizz), and digital dictionaries to increase students' engagement and understanding. Students show higher interest and motivation when learning using technology, especially through audio-visual media and video-based assignments. However, some challenges were also found, such as limited infrastructure, low digital literacy, and technical glitches during learning. Teachers' and students' perspectives generally indicate that technology has great potential in improving the effectiveness of English language learning, but it needs to be supported by adequate training and facilities. This research makes a contextual contribution to the understanding of technology integration in language education in rural Indonesia. In conclusion, the integration of technology in English classrooms, while beneficial and motivating for both teachers and students, requires adequate support, training, and infrastructure to ensure its sustainable and effective implementation in rural educational contexts.

Abstract

This study explores students’ perspectives on using ChatGPT for English lexical class tasks at SMA Negeri 2 Pematangsiantar, highlighting the integration of AI technology in education. Utilizing qualitative research methods, data were collected through questionnaires focusing on three aspects: attractiveness, accessibility, and effectiveness. The findings reveal that students generally view ChatGPT positively, particularly appreciating its user-friendly nature and flexibility, with 71.4% expressing enthusiasm for using it to learn new vocabulary. However, perceptions of its effectiveness are more cautious, as many students remain neutral regarding its impact on their understanding and practical application of vocabulary. While 51.5% agree that ChatGPT aids in comprehension, a significant portion expresses skepticism about its overall effectiveness, indicating a need for enhancements. The study aligns with previous research that underscores AI's potential benefits in education, such as personalized learning and improved engagement. Ultimately, these findings suggest that while ChatGPT serves as a valuable educational tool, ongoing development is essential to maximize its effectiveness and foster students’ confidence in their learning outcomes, emphasizing the importance of blending technology with traditional teaching methods for a more engaging learning environment.

Abstract

Microlearning berbasis video pendek merupakan strategi pembelajaran yang dapat meningkatkan keterlibatan dan pemahaman siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan microlearning dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia pada siswa kelas VI SDN Batang-Batang Daya 1. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa microlearning meningkatkan motivasi, keterlibatan, dan pemahaman siswa, serta mendorong kebiasaan belajar mandiri. Pendampingan berkelanjutan terhadap guru terbukti berperan penting dalam pengembangan konten, integrasi kuis, dan penyajian materi secara efektif. Kendala yang ditemukan meliputi keterbatasan akses internet dan durasi konten yang singkat. Secara keseluruhan, microlearning memberikan kontribusi positif terhadap peningkatan kualitas pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di kelas.

Abstract

The notion of Edupreneurship course in tertiary institutions has given abundant opportunities for students not only to become entrepreneurs, but also to develop characters for human resources. This study aims to find out the factors affecting entrepreneurial motivation of undergraduated students in English Education Study Program. This research employs descriptive method using direct communication technique. In collecting the data, the researchers used interviews to 30 participants who were officially enrolled in Edupreneurship course. The interview was divided into two aspects: self-concept and entrepreneurship interest. The findings from the results of the interview revealed that the most dominant factor affecting entrepreneurial motivation of students in self-concept is being able to bring happiness to parents with 64%, while in entrepreneurship interest, 30% of the most dominant factor is to be able to get profit.

Abstract

Fenomena campur kode dalam lagu Batak "Welcome to My Country" merupakan manifestasi linguistik menarik yang menggambarkan perpaduan bahasa Batak dan Inggris sebagai strategi komunikasi sekaligus ekspresi identitas budaya. Lagu ini tidak hanya menunjukkan adaptasi linguistik, tetapi juga menjadi pernyataan terhadap modernitas dan globalisasi yang berkembang di masyarakat Batak. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan sosiolinguistik, yang relevan untuk mengkaji dinamika bahasa dalam konteks sosial secara mendalam. Lirik lagu menjadi data utama yang dijelaskan secara teliti untuk mengidentifikasi pola dan fungsi campur kode secara tepat. Hasil analisis menunjukkan penggunaan bahasa yang kompleks, meliputi penyisipan kata, frase, dan perpindahan penuh antara bahasa Batak dan kalimat Inggris. Strategi ini memperkaya ekspresi artistik lagu sekaligus mempertahankan identitas budaya Batak secara kuat dan signifikan. Penggunaan campur kode dipengaruhi oleh faktor sosial seperti solidaritas antar penutur, kedekatan hubungan interpersonal, serta budaya Batak yang kuat dan kaya nilai-nilai tradisional. Modernisasi dan globalisasi juga menjadi pendorong utama adaptasi budaya ini, di mana seniman Batak mengadopsi bahasa Inggris tanpa melepaskan bahasa ibu mereka. Fungsi utama campur kode dalam lagu adalah untuk memperkuat ekspresi artistik dan menegaskan identitas budaya. Selain itu, campur kode berperan sebagai alat komunikasi sosial yang efektif dalam pelestarian budaya lokal di tengah arus budaya global yang semakin masif. Secara keseluruhan, fenomena campur kode dalam lagu ini mewakili masyarakat Batak modern yang mampu menggabungkan tradisi dan modernitas secara harmonis dalam konteks multibahasa dan multikulturalisme. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi penting dalam kajian sosiolinguistik sekaligus menyoroti peran musik sebagai medium ekspresi budaya yang kuat di era global.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the course profile of the Pragmatics subject, specifically on speech act politeness, and to identify learning obstacles experienced by Indonesian Language and Literature Education (PBSI) students at UPGRI Pontianak. A mixed-methods approach was employed, integrating qualitative and quantitative techniques. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, enrichment book evaluation sheets, and student response questionnaires. Qualitative data from observations, interviews, and expert and student feedback were analyzed thematically, while the feasibility of the enrichment book was examined using descriptive statistics based on average validation and trial scores. The findings indicate that the Pragmatics course emphasizes students’ competencies in understanding and applying speech act politeness across academic, social, and digital contexts. However, several obstacles were identified, including the abstract nature of pragmatic theories, cultural variability in politeness interpretation, limited exposure to authentic discourse analysis, the influence of digital and colloquial language, mother tongue interference, and insufficient practice supported by contextual and local examples.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji respons mahasiswa terhadap penerapan model Gallery Walk dalam perkuliahan Bahasa Indonesia di Sekolah Tinggi Agama Katolik Negeri Pontianak. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif dan melibatkan 37 mahasiswa semester 1 tahun akademik 2023-2024. Data dikumpulkan melalui angket dan wawancara tidak terstruktur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan respons sangat positif dengan rata-rata skor 3,40 (84,93%). Pada indikator ketertarikan terhadap perkuliahan, respons mencapai 85,11% dengan persentase tertinggi pada pernyataan "Model Gallery Walk membuat perkuliahan Bahasa Indonesia menjadi lebih menarik" (89,86%). Indikator kemudahan memahami materi mendapat respons 84,46%, sementara indikator keberanian mengungkapkan pendapat mencapai 84,68%. Model Gallery Walk terbukti efektif meningkatkan motivasi belajar, pemahaman materi, dan keaktifan mahasiswa dalam perkuliahan. Penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa model Gallery Walk dapat menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang aktif, kolaboratif, dan menyenangkan, sehingga direkomendasikan untuk diterapkan dalam perkuliahan Bahasa Indonesia.

Abstract

Lagu Bunsu Rusa merupakan lagu berbahasa Iban yang mengangkat kisah mitologis tentang makhluk gaib dalam tradisi masyarakat Dayak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan representasi mitos, simbol alam, relasi manusia dan makhluk gaib, serta nilai moral dan fungsi sosial mitos yang terkandung dalam lirik lagu Bunsu Rusa. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode analisis teks budaya. Data penelitian berupa penggalan lirik lagu yang mengandung unsur mitologis dan simbol budaya, yang dianalisis dengan merujuk pada teori folklor dan mitos. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lirik lagu Bunsu Rusa merepresentasikan tokoh makhluk gaib sebagai entitas supranatural yang hidup berdampingan dengan manusia, dengan alam—seperti bukit dan sungai—diposisikan sebagai ruang sakral dan transisi antara dua dunia. Selain itu, mitos dalam lagu ini berfungsi sebagai media penyampai nilai moral, terutama terkait kehati-hatian, kepatuhan terhadap adat, dan penghormatan terhadap kekuatan tak terlihat. Popularitas lagu Bunsu Rusa di media digital menunjukkan bahwa mitos dan nilai budaya lokal tetap relevan dan dapat diwariskan melalui kemasan musik populer di era budaya digital.   Bunsu Rusa is an Iban-language song that presents a mythological narrative concerning a supernatural being within the cultural tradition of the Dayak community. This study aims to describe the representation of myth, natural symbols, the relationship between humans and supernatural beings, as well as the moral values and social functions of myth contained in the lyrics of Bunsu Rusa. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach using cultural text analysis. The data consist of selected lyric excerpts containing mythological elements and cultural symbols, which are analyzed with reference to folklore and myth theories. The findings indicate that the lyrics of Bunsu Rusa represent supernatural beings as entities that coexist with humans, while natural elements such as hills and rivers are positioned as sacred and transitional spaces between the human and spiritual worlds. Furthermore, the myth functions as a medium for conveying moral values, particularly caution, obedience to customary norms, and respect for unseen forces. The popularity of Bunsu Rusa on digital media demonstrates that local myths and cultural values remain relevant and can be transmitted through popular music within the context of digital culture.

Abstract

The fast growth of information and communication technology in the digital age has changed how we learn. One change is the rise of Online Learning as a useful option for learning. This study aims to deeply understand how Online Learning affect students' learning results. Using a quantitative approach, we collected data through a questionnaire from students chosen based on their experiences with different Online Learning. The data analysis focused on exploring their experiences, views, and opinions about the effectiveness, challenges, and benefits of online learning for their academic understanding. The results are expected to give clear insights into the role of online learning platforms in higher education today.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Quizlet in improving students’ vocabulary mastery at SMPN 03 Entikong. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design was employed. The participants were twenty-six eighth-grade students selected through cluster random sampling. A vocabulary test consisting of spelling, usage, and meaning aspects was used as the research instrument. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 27, including descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, paired sample t-test, and effect size analysis. The findings revealed that students’ vocabulary performance improved after the implementation of Quizlet. The mean score increased from 50.08 in the pre-test to 62.22 in the post-test, with a mean difference of 12.14. The normality test showed that the data were normally distributed. The paired sample t-test indicated a statistically significant difference between the two tests (t = 3.885, p < 0.001). Furthermore, the effect size value of 0.76 demonstrated that Quizlet had a strong practical impact on students’ learning outcomes. Improvements were observed in all vocabulary aspects, although usage remained the most challenging. In conclusion, Quizlet is an effective supplementary tool for enhancing students’ vocabulary mastery. Its interactive features support students’ motivation, engagement, and independent learning in English classrooms.
